Sharsheret is wonderful.  I'm a "Link" with them.   I've met the founder when she was in Denver a couple years ago....they are awesome

Chag Sameach Pesach......my kitchen won't be turned over till Sunday morning...still need to kasher the counters and the sinks....then shop for produce and finally can start cooking....The sedars are a small group...the first night its just us and my girl friend...the 2nd sedar is us, my gf and one other guest.  NO company for the first days lunches.    Company Shabbat and the end days, but not too many people.  My DD and SIL arrive from Toronto Sunday morning.  DS is going to my gf in Netanya for the sedar.

Move date for my parents is April 12th...I'm flying back to Florida on April 10th.  Dad is still in rehab and won't be discharged till the end of March or begininng of April.  I am looking forward to having them around the corner from me.

Wishing everyone a Happy Passover. I've been off the boards for a while but wanted to check in. Doing my usual last-minute cleaning - waiting to scrub the oven soon.

Karen - you're in my thoughts. I'm sorry to hear about your parents. I hope that you can get some answers soon, and that you have enough support near you so you can take care of yourself as well.

This topic caught my eye... I've been cooking all morning but I'm finally out of the kitchen for a short while.  Everything sure smells good.  The Passover smells remind me of childhood.

Karen, I'm sorry to hear about your parents.  We went through the illnesses and the move back from Florida (only my Mum made it back) a couple of years ago. I know how difficult it is to deal with these things, particularly when your parents live so far away. My thoughts are with you all.

Well, I'm a Hebrew school drop out so my translation abilities are nil. Shabbat bread covers often have the word Shabbat on them or a prayer. I have a question about your church activity. The cover you referenced is a challah cover, since it is Pesach, challah is not eaten during this period of time, so a challah cover would not be used. Are they comparing and contrasting what is used during the rest of the year vs. Peasach?

Thanks so much for responding and reminding me about no yeast breads--of course!  Glad you caught my error and I'll simply use the cover on the display table of Jewish art, etc.  

I wish I had the appropriate matzah cloth, but at least I have a special copy of the haggada to share.  Thanks, too, for the translation of the Shabbat bread cover, Latte.  "Shabbat" was the only word I could read in the Hebrew script.  Someday I'll try to pick Hebrew up again. In the meantime, I remember a few Hebrew songs that will probably stay with me forever  Thanks again!

Chag Sameach! I've been off the boards for a while as well.  Since the site was changed last year, I've come on less and less..

First seder was at BIL and SIL - 12 people, made sweet and sour meatballs, and choc. chip bars.  Second seder was my family, a big group - 32 - at a cousin's house.  Chicken soup was my donation to the meal. Always enjoy the seders, the kitchen turnover, not so much :-)

I just realized that as we are counting the omer (counting "up" from Passover to Shavuos; 15 days down, 35 to go), I am also "counting down".   I've just finished my 5th of 6 rounds of chem (TC-H), so I tell myself "35 days to go" until I'm (kind of) done with this whole frustrating experience. I can't WAIT.   I guess we are all counting in one way or another!

Amen!  Thank you all.

Its me again....its a month since my parents arrived and we have moved Dad to Hospice today.  My brother and his wife arrived Thursday and are here till Wednesday.  The 4 of us (DH, me, brother and his wife) all took Mom out to dinner for Mother's Day so the day ended nicely.  My DS send a bouquet of roses to me and my mother....I took half the roses to her apt this morning.....my DS is turning out to be such a fine young man......

These past 9 days with Dad in the hospital have been some of the hardest days of my life.....cancer was hard, but this is soooooo hard.....but in some sence deciding on Hospice has brought about some peace.   I hope whatever time Dad has left will be comfortable for him.  He is still alert, but we see a difference in him every day....he's getting crankier and sleeping more and not eating much.....In the hospital , he would get his meal, take two bites and say he didn't like it and ask for something else and then the story repeated!!!!  DH is going up to Hosptice to meet with the doctor in the morning and then my brother will take Mom during the day....I will go at 4 after work....

Please keep my father in your thoughts.....

Wishing everyone a good Shavuot.....I haven't even thought about cooking, but we are invited out erev for Dinner and for the 2nd day lunch....I guess I need to make sure I have food in the  house for the first day......haven't had much of an appetite so not too worried......
