Are supplements for brain function and memory safe for us?

Does anyone use a brain boosting supplement, and how did you research your choice?  I've been leery of any supplements that work by promoting new cell growth, which I would think these would.  But I would love a brain boost!

I'm also going to ask my ND, but thought I'd start the conversation here.    Deanna

Do you take B/12?  My naturopath recommended it, since I'm vegan and don't get it from meat.  It is supposed to boost brain power and reduce chemo-brain related memory problems.

Claire, I tried one B12 shot, but didn't feel that much of a difference -- maybe a bit more energy.  But maybe you can't tell with just one?

Matcha powdered green tea should be safe enough. It's a super nutrient used for it's cancer prevention properties but I started taking it for it's L-theanine to improve brain function. I have ADD. I've been taking it every day first thing in the morning for over a year now. It's not cheap, a $25.00 tin lasts only about 4 weeks, but imo it's worth it.

    Hi Ladies,

DLB, Thanks for posting this. I have wondered the answer to this question myself as I am required to do things that require a lot of brain power and with the cognitive impairment I have from the femara, it is such a challenge.Foot in Mouth

Kathy, the little tin of green matcha powder is worth it. I purchased it after I saw your post. Feels like my brain is working better, thoughts are more fluid and connected, like I'm not trying so hard just to think straight. Seems like I have a little more energy too. It will be a mainstay for sure

I have taken bacopa which has helped some too. I think it has some anti-cancer properties too if I remember correctly. The matcha green tea though...mucha better.Laughing

Hi there, My naturopath recommends Cognasure.  I haven't taken it yet, but she swears by it.  I'm going to the natural foods store today to pick some up. I need any help I can get at this point.

hi Bevin, I just researched the cognasure. I had never heard of it. It's made from colostrum (components of milk). I've read some interesting things about it's immune enhancing properties, and possible anticancer properties as well as the cognitive support, and a lot of other health benefits.  Colostrum has growth factors in it that concern me though.

Does anyone know about colostrum's effect on hormone recepter +bc? I can't find anything about it on the net. If anyone knows, or can find out somehow, please chime in.

Hi Lightandwind, Thanks for that research.

I see my Onco end of the month and will mention to them - it will be interesting to hear their input.

My memory is really bothering so hopeful there is no issue with the colostrum.

Had my first cup of Matcha green tea today. I've been caffeine-free since my first surgery, but decided I would give it a try, and that maybe a little caffeine would be good for me at this point.  I made it with almond milk and agave, then found a YouTube video that suggested using Tupelo honey (which I'll try tomorrow) and half-and-half (which I won't).  Anyway, thank you, Kathy for the suggestion!  I will also look into the Cognasure, L&W.  I'm going into my ND's office tomorrow for bloodwork and whether I see her then or just for a followup in a few days, I'll get her suggestion and share it here when I do.     Deanna

I highly recommend Bacopa Monniera, it will support your nervous system as well as memory throughout your treatment. I take it. Among other supplements, wheatgrass, blue algae and lots of greens to support my diet. All under the guidance of an integrative oncologist. Yours in Health, Denise</p

I would recommend Pure Encapsulations brand of Bacopa Monniera
