How long does the enitre process take?  Thanks for answering the question about the "other side".  I was really wondering about that.  Of course, I'll have to wait and see what transpires during the consultation, to see what all I am a candidate for, but I would like to have a matched set, and if that means getting implants on both siodes, then so be it.  I never realized before all this how emotionally challenging it was going to be having just one boob.  I had initially opted out of reconstruction altogether, and thought that would be that, but have since changed my mind.  Another new journey to go on.

cathyann thanks for posting!!!  How do you feel? Im confused do you have only "one" gummie implant? Please post when you are feeling better and let me know does it feel squishy or hard? I thought the implant felt so much harder and heavier compared to the others in the PS office, but nothing can be as bad as these TE!!

    HI,

I'm adding just a bit. My PS said the "gummy bear" implants have been used in Europe for quite some time with great success. The FDA  just approved them. He also said a couple of similiar ones are coming too with good results. I will have them put in in Sept. (after chemo). I will check back in to see how people like them.

Wishing you all well BC sisters,

    Denise

I had a skin sparing MX on Left side W/TE.  So yes I did have the same type of "Gummy" implant also on the right side, just smaller. I also had a lift done on the right side to matched it to the MX side. I have the High profile round Gummies and right now I'm still only less then a week out(and still on meds) so I do still have swelling/bruising so it's alittle too soon to squish them yet.  The only thing you have to consider also...if you want the round or teardrop shape.  From what I've found...   Can they move around when they(implants)are in place?  No matter how well there done, it's a possibility. So.."Teardrop" and I'm not saying they will, just that they can move around and will give you a different look/shape then you started with... Round are round so even if they were to move they would still hold there shape. I believe both shapes have a "pocket" to sit in also.  So  some questions to ask yourself..What shape to you really want them to look like?  Are you an active person, do you exercise alot, run, bike ride, swim.etc.  I"ve heard stories about the teardrop ones (good and bad) so for me, I'm very active and have enough on my "plate" so I choose the rounds and if you have a great PS, then you will have a great outcome from surgery and get the look you've wanted.  This may sound silly, but I can't stop looking at them, just to see if their is any change yet.

I thought the gummies, Allergan 410's, were only teardrop shaped. Do they make them in rounds too?

"The FDA approval of Natrelle® 410 shaped gel implants provides an important new alternative to traditional round implants for women considering breast augmentation, reconstruction or revision surgery," said David E.I. Pyott, Allergan's Chairman of the Board, President and Chief Executive Officer. "The Natrelle® 410 is the most selected shaped gel implant in markets where the product is already available, such as Europe and Canada. We are pleased that the FDA has recognized the benefits and safety of the Natrelle® 410, and has now made the product available as an additional option for women in the United States."

The Natrelle® 410 shaped gel implant is designed to mimic the slope of the breast and is filled with a highly cohesive silicone gel, which is intended to enable the implant to hold its shape over time while remaining soft to the touch.

"For many patients, round silicone and saline breast implants are good options. For others, they may not provide the aesthetic outcome they desire," said Scott L. Spear, M.D., FACS, Chairman, Department of Plastic Surgery, Georgetown University School of Medicine. "As well, patients may have minimal breast tissue remaining after the removal of a tumor or have lost breast volume over the years, so the option of a shaped breast implant designed with an anatomical shape that lasts over time is an important one as it may help these patients obtain the aesthetic look they are seeking."

Allergan requires surgeons to complete a certification program, which includes instruction on surgical techniques and patient selection, before they are able to offer the Natrelle® 410 shaped gel implant option to their patients. Please visit www.allerganacademy.com for more information and to complete the certification program. Women interested in seeking a consultation about the Natrelle® 410 breast implant can locate qualified surgeons by visiting the Natrelle® website at www.natrelle.com.

I saw my PS today for a fill. I asked him if they come in a round. He said no not perfectly round. He uses the Allergan. HE said some are more sloaped then others, but not round. I am filled to 460 now so he said if I want more then a 475 implant in then he wont use the allergan. I think I asked why, but I cant remember I had asked so many questions today!!! I do worry though with them just coming out a little over four weeks ago he has not done many. I asked him about them shifting and he said no worries there. With them being coated unlike the other impants the scar tissue will form around them and they wont move. I hope he is correct. I need to be making a decision soon as if I choose the gummies I can stop with the fills or just get one more small one. If I dont go with the gummies I need about 90 more cc's.........

yeah, I think our general worry is that our PS's may not have sufficient experience with the new gummies.  My surgery is scheduled for the end of next month.  I hope by then my PS will have more experience with them.

Mine wont be until the end of June so by then I would hope he has done a few more. The whole "firmer" thing scares me as the TE are so hard I just want them OUT and to feel a bit more normal and not hard. I was also worried about having them put in before radiation but he assured me the radiation WILL NOT harm the implant. It is the skin that is harmed by radiation and sometimes that takes years for the final result of the skin reaction so no need to wait until after radiation. That made me feel a bit better in that department!

We all want some control of our bodies after the s*** we have been through. Focusing on the details of our new implants is a positive step in our empowerment. Let's also remind each other that even the best PS can't predict the EXACT outcome each of us will have.  For myself, I know that if I focus 'too much' energy/worry over the outcome, I may increase my chance of being unhappy with the details. Don't get me wrong, I am doing my homework to make the right decision for me. I think there are 3 important tasks we all have:

    1. Do our homework as we all are doing.   2. Communicate our expectations to our PS.                             3. Focus on a full and rewarding life outside of reconstruction, so that when we are recovering we have the foundation for a good life after BC.

I have special empathy for our single women. Know you have your own special beauty, and any future partner who is worthy of you will see that. If not, it's a good litmus test of who is worthy of such a precious woman. We don't have time for anything less. 💛

Nicely put Shellshine and thanks for the reminder.  I'm single and it's pretty scary to add the dating thing to the whole recovery process.  I can't help wondering how guys are going to react.  So far, I've had two guys react totally differently, but both made me feel good, desired and sexy.  Though it's hard to gear up for intimacy when we are in limbo with our bodies.

shellshine you are right. I am probably putting way to much thought and stress into this. When my hubby got home from work I asked him to look at me and asked should I stop now, go larger, go allergan/gummy or not. He just said why are you stressing about this just make a decision. Its not that big of a deal he said. Of course that just upsets me as I tell him its my body and not a car I can trade in. He just rolls his eyes. He is a very LOW stress person. I wish I was too!!!

Hello, I had my allergan teardrops 410MX put in 8 weeks ago. Initially very swollen and distorted. I was very worried about to look of them. They looked brosd and flat. They have rounded off and I look very natural in a bra. They are a D cup wide but about a B-C in projection. Slightly odd. I didn't get the full 6.7cm projection I was expecting. (Just the way I healed, perhaps muscle too tight, who knows). They definitely feel firm and dense to me, and I am missing the softer more pliable feel of a natural breast. The tears drop has to be more rigid to hold the shape, so you can't put on a push up bra and get the upper fullness like in a natural breast. I am a little unsure of my implants at the moment, I would be happier if I had the full projection to round it out more, and for it to be softer. I have heard it can take 12 mths for them to soften properly. Virginia

    I'm glad this was helpful.

Joc, I really feel for you. I kissed a LOT of frogs before I found my prince, and he's got warts, too. If I could do it all over again I would skip romance with some of them, enjoy friendships (if they are not toxic people), and only be intimate with those who treasure a woman, regardless of any superficial, external differences. Skip ANYONE who doesn't treasure you! I can see from your picture you are a beautiful woman. I, too, have been told I am beautiful (but didn't know it - that's what my husband and friends say!) - but I feel that beauty shines from within. I just want to hug you and tell you it will be OK.

Michelle, Thank you so, so much - that means so much to me. I'm glad that you have a good man by your side.  I will soon (hopefully), but for now, I'm starting to be ok with being alone.

((hugs)) to you from Santa Fe!

I will be getting, gummies on June 7th and have absolute faith in my PS. He was the one who suggested pre-recon fat transfers to help repair radiated tissue and it has worked like a charm.

I like the idea of a more sloped upper pole and never liked push-up bras anyways.

    59 days and counting!

    Virginia,

Virginia: I think it just takes so much more time for us all to heal right, it's only been 8 weeks?  I think in my opinion give it 6 months and see how you feel then. I too have heard it can take up to a year for the total all natural feel.  I'm only 1 week out from TE exchange. And  I opted to get the " Gummy Rounds" and so far, from what I can see/feel I really do like these.   I do have the slop..thanks to my PS who did alot of work on that and I have projection too. I didn't want the "shelf look".   I had that done on one side(cancer one) and a lift and smaller Gummy on the good breast. I haven't done any bra shopping yet, but have tried on my old one's just to see.  I was a full B cup now I'm guessing I'm going to need C/D cup in the future.  I've heard alot of good also on the teardrop ones too.

Tangles> You sound just like me when I was trying to decide. I think I drove my husband crazy.  I finally just put my hands on my hips and said...okay how do you want them? lol..  but seriously, it's a big decision to make and if your not sure, maybe put it off and extra week or two, or until your positive.  The last thing you don't want to do is go into surgery unsure and come out still unsure.

cathyann I asked my PS if he uses "round" gummies and he said he uses the allergan410 so they do not come in a round. I talked with a gal that got the teardrop regular silicone and she is Ok with them but she said if she could do it over she would have went with the gummy as she already has rippling and hers are only 6 months out. She also said she wish's she had more upper pole fullness. With the tissue expander's in as much as I HATE them and they hurt daily I do like the upper pole fullness I have with them being so close to fully filled. Don't get me wrong I don't want them to look like two balls stuck to my chest but I like that fullness. I am worried now to use the gummies as if they are also tear dropped will I have a shelf look instead of that fullness or do you think it just depends where he places them. It is all so confusing to me.

kestrelgurl- Can you tell me what pre recon fat transfers are? Is it like trans flap surgery. Did you have this done before radiation or after???

Hi Tangles ask your PS if he has Mentor round gummies? When I was looking at implants last week my PS had both the Sientra tear drop textured gummy and a Mentor smooth round gummy. She said they were both highly cohesive so they do make them in rounds.

I have Sientra TE so I think my PS is leaning towards Sientra gummies. She's still up in the air on size but says she will try on a few pairs in the OR on the 24th to see which ones look best.

She did tell me with the rounds they will drop and fluff some in time so you won't have such a noticeable upper pole fullness.

Tangles  The Gummies I have are made by Mentor.  My PS said I would have alot of upper pole now, but it will settle in.  I also like that look too.  Did your PS show you pictures of others he/she has done before?  If not ask and then you can point out what you do want to look like or don't want to look like.

I got my gummies yesterday! What a relief from those awful expanders. Allergan 410FF 375cc. I don't know how they will look (they look flat now, which I guess is normal?) but I decided to be happy no matter what!! Good luck!

Po-ke  Aren't you wrapped?  If so, that wrap just makes them look flat.  Wait and see after PS takes that wrap off.  They will  "fluff" out nicely.  And great attitude too.
