Carla and Caitlin, thinking of you two in chemo chair today. You are experienced by this time, and hopefully the SE's will be mild. Hugs to you both!

Websister, happy to hear that you are feeling more optimistic and better after yesterday's meeting. From what you have told us on these boards, that Calgary Cancer Centre is just amazing with all the services they offer to ca patients. Ours is good, but does not come close. The support at your centre is simply fantastic. May you feel better every day, Websister!

Trai, sorry to hear about your nerve problem. Listen to Nihahi - she knows her icing! Hope it resolves soon so you can enjoy the getaway.

Edi, good for you on spending quality time with your friends in the chemo room - weird how one gets used to that scary place, hey? As for wedding business, make-believe is such fun, but I do believe if we all lived closer together, it could have been a winner. Hope Johhny Cash will be on his way soon. He really should learn to take a hint - lol.

Dakota, no, I'm not so unbelievable. This morning I went to yoga class, and cancelled the strength training class I was supposed to do afterwards. My muscles are still stiff and sore from earlier this week, and I am still tired even after a good night's sleep. Have to pace myself better, or do less. As for the chickpeas, I only got the hummus done before I ran out of steam yesterday, so the majority of the chickpeas are sitting on the counter looking at me, and I have to get myself motivated to finish. Will post that hummus recipe later for you and Edi.

Here's the link to the recipe: www.tasteofhome.com/food/roasted_red_pepper_hummus

It is a large quantity, but it keeps well in the fridge for some time. I did not roast the red peppers, but had canned roasted red peppers which I used. Also did not have tahini(sesame) paste, but used sesame oil which I had. After cooking the chickpeas, roasting peppers was just too much PT. It freezes well, too. Just cool it in the fridge overnight, stir around (supposed to prevent ice-crystals), and spoon into ziploc bags. Press the air out, and freeze.

ENJOY! I'm munching crackers and hummus as we speak - lol.

Edi....gosh you are one busy lady!!!! So glad to hear how well you are breezing through rads! Hope Benny does too! Let us know how the shower door saga goes. Give wrinkly an extra cookie with his tea, sounds like he needs  some tlc.

Traii....good thing I didn't send all the icepacks off to you....I did my back in today with vacuuming, so now have icepacks on the back and shoulders and (twcbn). Tried flexaril and that didn't touch it, so crap, I'm stuck on the couch.

Hope everyone is doing well. (((((x)))))

Ouch Nihahi, not good hun. That's not a way to get yourself out of vacuuming now is it girl!! Wink

I didn't end up needing the icepack last night.....luckily just as when you go to the docs sometimes and all of a sudden the pain disappears, well that's what happened after I got off the phone with the breast care nurse, an hour later the pain...what pain :) But I know now if it happens again, I'll get that ice pack out, (luckily I do have one, I have a 'cars' themed one from DS and a 'normal ' one but do have those frozen beans and peas in the freezer , just in case...lol.

Edi, luckily that johnny Cash isn't as bad this time around, still a nuisance but good to hear for you.  Glad your DH shh'd up when you told him about my SIL's stories....ahh I can't believe that shut him up for you....lol.....anythings a try hey!

I took DH and DS out to the factory outlets today, well I don't know who's worse , a 3 year old or a 38 year old....I should have just taken the 3 year old like I normally would.!! I should have put them both in the trolley and pushed them around. Now DH is at the pub for his friday arvo drinks with ' the boys' DS is asleep and me, well you know where I am!!!

Carla, Caitlin, thinking of you today, minimal SEs.

Carla, I sooooooooooooo get you about putting on those few extra kilos ( pounds as you yanks say)!! I put on almost 10kgs during chemo.... I blame the steriods!! As my onc says, best to put the weight on then to loose weight by 'chucking' all the time. (oh how blessed I feel!!!!) Tongue Out I feel like a 5 foot nothing oompa loompa, paint me orange and there you'll have one!!! The Easter Eggs don't help either!! I just hope that I won't be putting on weight with Tamoxifen or i'm in real trouble...lol.!

Liefie, how do you feel today? Hope you managed to pick up those chick peas to finish your hummus....personally not a fan of chick peas...think because my nanna use to put them in her winter soup .... but I'm sure yours would be better :)

Take care ladies, DS must of heard me clicking away here and of course is up....yeh for me.....lol let the fun begin.!

Off to my auntys for dinner and chocolate mousse cake for her birthday....oh whats another couple of extra kilos....!!

    Hi all!

Well, my little nap yesterday turned into 14 hours......wow! I WAS tired-just didn't realize HOW tired......

Woke up this morning and have been on the go ever since.....first stop this morning was the gym, I am trying to catch up with Nihahi and all her hiking....I biked for 20 minutes, then got on the treadmill....did 2 miles in 40 minutes with an elevation gain of 1300 ft......then I hit the free weights, where I am up to a whopping 4 lbs per arm....lol. All of this was in preparation for the running around I have been subjected to by my DD from Japan......as she will be working in DH's office for the rest of her time here, she thought we should spend the day together shopping for all the things she can't (or won't ) find in Sapporo. Did I mention my feet are killing me???? Came home and cooked for everyone tonight.....in my lovely bed now, thinking of icing my feet......Traii, can I borrow your icepack? (But only AFTER you do what Nihahi says, because she is right!)

Edi.....I am sad for wrinkly butt.....you are sweet to try and call DH off his wrinkly butt vendetta.....Traii's DH right about easy shattering propensity of glass doors-especially shower doors. Stay strong! Hope your treatments are keeping their nasty SEs to a minimum. You are too fiesty to be held hostage by c**p like that.

Dakota-the weekend approaches......lots of sporting events on the calendar for kiddos? You are a great mom-seriously!

Traii, ICE FIRST, then vacation. Have LOTS of fun for me! I will be here, in Oregon, icing my aching feet!

Caitlin and Carla-I hope you are both doing okay.....thinking of you! You are both such positive women-great examples for me.

Websister, I am so sorry you have been down.....but very happy that you have connected with someone at your cancer center.......I am going to check out resources here.....I really have no one here in town I can talk with.....there is something about the word cancer that has made my friends a little shy.....I honestly have felt such relief to have found you wonderful women.....you have all been such a lifeboat in some very stormy seas I have sailed on.....

Liefie - love love love hummus! How far are you from Portland??? I can be there in......8 hours?!? My goodness, you are one ambitious lady! Organ playing on Sunday, to hummus on Thursday.......and yoga and everything else in between.....you are one busy lady!

Nihahi, I am trying to catch up with your mad hiking skills.......hence the vertical feet goals in the gym every morning....at LEAST 1000 ft. In 40 mins. I have to be able to stay up with you on a hike.....I have a feeling that you are a force to be reckoned with on the trail! Don't be mad at me, but I think your DH made the right call re: DD and her "junk".....YOU do not need additional stress right now, so close to surgery-take it from someone who's been there. This way, your DD can move at her own speed, and you can focus on YOU. I am sending (((hugs))) your way-cant believe time is moving so swiftly...seems just yesterday we "met" on the DIEP board. Excited for you to join us on the "other side".

Love to all.....believe it or not, after a short visit to the DIEP thread, I am headed back to bed......morning (and the gym) come early here!

Namaste and God bless - Jackie

Morning girls, hope all well with ALL of you. x
6.30 and up with huge mug of tea after a good nights sleep. 7 hours is such bliss.
Rads at midday then may have small retail fix bits and bobs for hopefully finished shower room Smile
Have dreadfully dry skin on hands mainly finger tips Frown wear rubber gloves for washing up and handcream plus gloves every night. Last night forgot to take up handcream but had a pot of nappycream in meds cabinet, being too lazy to get handcream slapped on uber greasy sudocrem on went gloves and this morning much softer and less sore. Sometimes we find help in the strangest ways. Laughing
Wrinkly butt due this morning so tummy in a knot re DH, he has suddenly taken to closing each and every door upstairs tight shut. Edi goes up with laundry etc and has to wrestle with really stiff door handles Frown almost drop the lot !! Ask why ? " It looks tidier " Edi roars first time in 42 freakin years you have ever done it !!!!! told to keep voice down in case next door  ( deaf old dear ) hears. GIVE UP LOL.
ED in bits again, skyped me with view of her downstairs remo, not a wall left ! Arco props everywhere and thought it looked good. Turns out they have built small back extension wrong size and it now ruins the whole look and footage at the back. Her partner ( future SIL ) is like DH and she is now sorry they ever started. Builder should have liased with them but didnt. Hate to see your kids suffer. Might go and kick a builder or two.

Nihahi, Poor love, hope pain easing ? You make sure you rest and nooo more hoovering. Make it DD's special job when she is settled in.
You need to look after no 1 sod the rest of them. I am coming around to that mind set but it has taken almost a year to implement.
Will look after wrinkly butt, DH will be here before his afternoon shift so will be hovering over him like the angel of death, Edi might do a kick to his butt to keep him away.xx

Traii, Lovely that pain subsided, it must have untrapped itself Smile be careful when bending and try not to lift DS too much to keep it that way.
DS AND DH shopping recipe for disaster. You must have the patience of a saint. Think DS would have been my main choice too. have a lovely visit to Aunty's.
Weight gain won't make you any less beautiful and your onco is right.
Helen I had lunch with yesterday used to throw up for 8 hours after every chemo and that was worse than a bit of extra padding.xx

Movie, Goodness you did have a good sleep. You must have needed it. Then you hurl yourself into sooo much activity Laughing impressive.
This is a lifeboat we all need, "C" is a dirty word to some and on here we all understand and empathise.
Hope DD gives those tootsies a rest lol xx

Caitlin and Carla how are you today ? xx

Websister, hope you are picking up energy wise ? Rads I have been told cause such fatigue for up to three months after they have finished !! Sod that for a game of soldiers, we have to kick this into touch.xx

Liefie, bet you are sick of the sight of chick peas lol. Very little cooking for me yay. DH's shift doesnt finish until 9pm so egg on toast will do.
    Have a wonderful day xx

Benny, Rads are great, lots of happy smiling faces in our waiting area. Sure you will breeze through these. BC bitch will be well destroyed xx

All you other busy bee sisters, love and joy to you xx

    Laters x

Movie, wow, you made me tired just reading why you achieved at the gym...you go girl. :)  I feel like I'm at the gym every day running after my DS.....he makes me tired just looking at his burst of energy. I really don't know how I do it. Today DS and I just went to the local shops after he woke from his nap...well Energiser Bunny didn't want to sit in a trolley now did he....then boom, he ran off on me so me with 3 shopping bags full running after him hoping the wig didn't fly off......more to worry about than the flipping hair...but it stayed on and managed to grab not so DS by that stage and stopped him and said do not ever do that again....he said mummy i was only joking...I said no that is not a joke, mummy got scared and its naughty , and the cheeky thing laughed....!

So glad you had a 14 hour sleep, wow, 14 hours sounds so nice....I'm lucky to get 4 now a days !

Websister, I forgot to comment earlier about your post. We have a dietician at my hospital in which I'm going to make an appt with whilst I'm in hospital recovering from surgery. Think that may help with the what and what not to eat re BC etc. I think it's good that hospitals have these workers there for us to speak with. Our Breast Care nurse deals with the discussions you had with your Breast Support Team.

Dakota, hope weather is good with all the sport you have on Saturday :)

Edi, you make me laugh re DH closing all the doors, hasn't done it for 42 years and may have made the deaf lady next door hear you...you two are hilarious. A perfect match. You are such an inspiration Edi, full of energy, with rads and chemo and johnny , the butt crack man and DH you still manage to make everyone smile here with your wit and stories....luv ya gorgeous girl :) xx

Good night from Australia gorgeous girls..may go try to get some sleep. xox

Enjoy your day and will log on in the morning to see what mischief you girls got into xox

    Morning All,

Not a good sleep, and back on the ice packs this morning. Oh well, This time next week, I'll be in my lovely hospital nightie waiting to walk into the OR. I plan on sleeping for the rest of the month after that!!!!!!!!!!!

Edi...I just perk up everytime I see you've posted. Good stories, bad stories, you are the BEST WRITER. Please don't ever leave us! Baby bum cream is the best stuff isn't it!!!! I think it might be the zinc in it, that helps heal things. How's your skin holding up from the rads? Good I hope. Not gonna say anymore about hubby/wrinkly butt. You know who's side I'm on for that "encounter"! ED's reno woes....yikes! Sometimes I think we'd all be better off if there weren't so many home improvement shows on TV....makes people think reno's are easy sailing....rarely turn out that way in reality!

YOWZER!!!! The pic of Marilyn almost shutdown my computer!!!! Wish I could borrow her tummy next week!

Traii...so glad the sciatica has settled down. Good advice about being careful with lifting and twisting. Gosh, your little guy sounds just like mine at that age. Cute as a button, but you could never take your eyes off him. He took off on us in a mall too.....scared the daylights out of us! So hard to keep them "safe" without scaring them of the reality of "bad things".

Movie....I'm tired just reading of your gym workout. No worries on trying to catch up to me hiking....we stop A LOT to take photos, take a drink, blow the nose, eat chocolate, etc. I'm not at alll upset about your thoughts about the storage locker....it is the right solution, for sure. As you well know....little things are becoming waaay too much of "big things" getting this close to "the day". I MISS MY COFFEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, this place is like a "safe haven" for many of us....such a special "sisterhood".

    Good morning everybody,

Checking in here is the first thing I do every day. You all feel like good friends by now. To think that we had to go through bc to find each other - mysterious!

Movie, good for you on the 'sleep that knits up the ravelled sleeve of care' a la dear old Shakespeare. Congrats also on your gym routine! I admire you for the climbing, which I don't do. I just hike up the speed, and totally overdid it on Wednesday. Did walk/run, covering 3 miles in 40 minutes, so it's not fast by any means, but still tired, and my legs/calves are still so stiff and sore. I'm also on an eating binge lately as my weight does not come down anyway, no matter how careful I eat or how much exercise I do. This weight loss struggle has been going on since January, have not lost a single pound, gained a few, and I'm ready to throw in the towel. Sorry for the whining. As for weight training, I'm up to 5 lbs per arm - lol - but very slow is the way to go to prevent lymphedema, which is a risk when going too heavy too soon.

We're on Vancouver Island, and I would love to do a road/camping trip to Portland and Oregon in summer. My two DS's are all for it, but DH somehow not so enthusiastic. Have checked the camp sites on the beautiful coast there, but all fully booked by now. You are welcome to visit any time, Movie! Will be lovely!

    Will post more later.

Liefie....My hubby and I rode our 10 speed bikes up the Oregon coast years ago. Two weeks of pure bliss. Stunningly beautiful campgrounds, and safe roads. At that time, they set aside beautiful quite sections in the state campgrounds for "hikers and bikers". You could still use the hot showers, and could borrow an axe from the park ranger. Absolutely one of our best holidays ever!

I came on earlier today, to get my Edi, Nihahi, Traii, Dakota, Liefie , Websister, et al,fix. It is seriously the first thing I do when I have a moment! With DD here, I feel like I have NO time to spend here, and it really makes me anxious!

Just wanted to say "Hello". And send my love out to you all. Sisters all!

Nihahi, that holiday sounds idyllic, and it is so beautiful there. Have to do it in future. I love camping, but DH not so much . . . Maybe kids and I should go on our own. Your surgery is coming up fast now. By this time next week it will probably all be over, and you will be sleeping off the anaesthetics. Yayy!

Edi, like Traii said, you bring a smile to my face every day, and today I need it. Feeling pretty low, just sitting on the couch not wanting to do much. Went to the gym for a workout, but such low energy. No real reason to feel this way except for the weight loss battle which I am losing. Don't know how to do this for four and a half more years on Tamoxifen. Also been told by DH this morning that I have no self-discipline because I've been eating chocolates these past few days which he brought home.

I'm not good company today, so I'm saying good bye. Hope everybody else is doing well.

Gosh darling sisters, can't bear the thought of any of you not being happy. Frown sitting here at 2am mug of tea in hand, had two hours sleep then wide awake !! Came down to check on you all, and Liefie also flying with cyber hug.
Don't let your weight get you down, I have been up to 3 sizes bigger than now and just buy bigger stuff Lol. Sorry it isnt funny but need you to smile. Smile DH and chocs ! he bought them what does he expect. Chocolate is such a comfort food and you need to be comforted.
You are trying your best and sure things will get better.
My DH would never consider camping then last year decided to get tent etc. Weather turned yuk so all in his flipping shed neatly stacked.
If you feel like a skpe later PM me. DH at work this avo so that would be good if you feel up to it. xx

Traii, your DS is a little tinker !! My DS once almost gave me a heart attack, I was looking through a rail of clothes and he was standing next to me, looked down and no more DS !! Ran around the store like a nut case, nothing, ran outside and loo and behold he was across a busy road and playing hopping on and off a shop step. How he got there without being splatted I will never know.
Sorry you still not sleeping well, hopefully penguin island will help you break the cycle and rest. Have a wonderful time chick you soooo deserve it.
    luv u lots xx

Nihahi, This time next week, wow. twcbm will be no more Laughing you wont know yourself and the peas will be crying in the freezer.
You make sure you look after no 1, DD and DH will be fine, just lie on your recliner like Marilyn in the pic only I think nice comfy pj's bit better than a bikini. lol.
Baby bum cream is good think zinc is doing the trick. Only sore skin is on hands, soooo dry and end of fingers keep cracking quite deeply but small price to pay. Rest of body could do with a good ironing but that is just age not rads.
Ed and home improvements, defo those programmes have a lot to answer for. She adores one call Grand Designs but of course you don't see all the stress and heartache. She went to house yesterday and they had left her front door unlocked for the second time !! Her partner has said he now wants nothing more to do with it and she can do all the troubleshooting. She is brilliant and knows how she wants it all but the builders seem to be on another page.
Your outings sound like my kind of trip, lots of stops and chocolate. xx

Movie, BIG HUG hope DD isn't knackering you too much. lots of love xx

DH has a gob on again, free shower door was wrong size Frown  wrinkly looked suicidal. DH orders new everything which wrinkly is paying for. Few hours later supplier rings and has found two more doors that might fit. Oh poop, daren't tell wrinkly these would have been free too. I told DH he shouldn't have been so quick off the mark so now he ain't talking to me, ( BLISS ) when he gets up will no doubt get told off for questioning his decision. HELP.Yell
GD coming for tea later with ED so we can bitch about our men. Hope GD not in ear shot she will tell them.ha ha.

Need more tea, gonna try and nap on sofa. Laters gorgeous girls xx

    Ladies

I am sneaking on here as my DDD (Demanding Dear Daughter) is on skype with boy friend in Japan for a few minutes....

Edi, you never fail to make us feel good!  Love you!

Traii, I have a story about one of my 4 DDs.....I had three at the time, and the middle one (who is 31 now) was about 4 1/2 yrs.....I had taken the three of them to a large department store in the mall near our home to look for something to wear....I took my eyes off of them for TWO seconds....the oldest was hiding in a circular rack of dresses....I had the youngest in her stroller....I couldn't see the middle daughter.....all of a sudden I hear these people gasping and pointing towards the escalator.....there she was riding the black rubber moving railing up to the second floor!  It was one of thoses moments where I debated for a split second on whether or not to claim I even knew her.....just as I pulled myself together and ran towards the escalator.....she rolled to the side and fell about 15 feet....right into the seat of a sofa planted right below!  Thank goodness she wasn't hurt.....needless to say, we beat a fast retreat out of there......

    Love you all (again)

Liefie - adding my hugs and sorry, but those pants have to be big enough for us all to fit in the pockets, that's all there is to it! Hate that you are feeling low. When I had my appointment the other day with the nurse practitioner and I was discussing my weight and frustration with taking off the chemo weight she was very understanding. She said that hormones definitely play a role and suggested that, even though I wasn't describing the present as well as past few months as 'stressful' that she felt they were and that cortisol is produced by our bodies in reaction to stress and acts much like the steroids we are given with chemo; increasing insulin levels and making our bodies want to store fat. She suggested that I think of things that I can do to help with relaxation as she felt my diet was good and that I was getting there exercise wise. Maybe more of the yoga and adding some relaxation/deep breathing exercises would be more effective than adding more exercise for you also? No matter what, please do not feel that you don't want to be on here, we share everything here - the good and the bad.

Nihahi - sorry to hear about your back; hope it improves over the weekend; remember that what doesn't get done before surgery isn't the end of the world. Is there anything that I can do to help out - I don't live that far away and I have to make a trip to Okotoks soon to get some more of Mom's things for her. PM me if I can be of help.

Movie - that was quite the story of DD and the escalator; glad you all survived it!

Edi - hope you were able to get back to sleep and that things start going better for ED, DH and wrinkly butt

Carlads - hope you have a good weekend

Traii - Glad the back is feeling better! Penguin Island :)

    Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend.

    Hi Ladies!

Liefie, so sorry you're feeling low today - funny how that can come on without much warning. From a distance, it sounds like you're doing everything right in terms of living a healthy balanced lifestyle - and we all need a little chocolate from time to time. I don't know about you, but I too have been told by my DH that I have no self-discipline, and I did NOT appreciate it!

I've actually lost a bit of weight, which I chalk up to no alcohol and diminished appetite - but it's just a drop in the bucket compared to what I need to lose. I was stunned when my MO told me he has seen some people gain 40 or 50 lbs while on chemo.

First Taxol went okay - no allergic reaction, but just now starting to feel some tingling in fingers and toes. Hands are also a bit dry (have been for about 10 days) -kind of like you describe, Edi. The Benadryl really knocked me out, so I was sound asleep in the chair for about 2 hrs! My port was not cooperating - finally were able to get some blood after tipping me back in the chair so I was practically standing on my head, and then having me turn my head to the left. Thanks to my DH tattling about this difficulty to my MO, I am now on Coumadin.

Movie, your gym regimen sounds impressive! Seems like your DD is putting you through your paces. BTW, I went to Oregon State for grad school, so I miss your beautiful state and all it has to offer.

Websister, I looked your cancer center up on the Internet some time ago - I believe when Benny was having some difficulty - and it appears to be a wonderful facility.

Edi - poor wrinkly butt - nothing seems to be going his way! I wonder if he realizes he has an international following?

Nihahi - hard to believe your surgery is so close! Hope you are able to get lots of rest in the week leading up to it.

What about you Traii -still no date? Hope you will get that settled soon.

Thinking of you too Carlads and hoping this penultimate round will be SE free for you!

Websister, thanks so much for the offer of help....as if you don't have enough to do already!!!!

The best thing you could do for any of us, is to keep in touch with Benny, and let us know from time to time how she is doing.

    Look after YOURSELF too.

hmmmm.....so easy to tell others to care for themselves, yet so hard to put into practice. Wonder why????????

Dakota.....this time next week, you'll be home with your kids AND your new "girls"!!!!!!!! Thinking of you((x)).

    Liefie.....wondering how you're doing today?

Today for us was supposed to be a take it easy, relax and don't think about "what's coming". Noooo.......daughter has such a bad migraine, she's throwing up. So, drive into town pick her up, take her to walk-in clinic. See someone we know also there....she comes over to say hi, sits down right next to me for a visit. Then she tells us she either has tonsillitis or strep throat. OMG. I tell hubby, I cannot sit in a waiting room full of sick people, 6 days before major surgery. So, now I'm sitting in the car.......can not one thing be easy?

Nihahi, thanks for asking. Also thanks so much to everybody else for your encouragement and understanding, and for your good suggestions, Websister. I'm still feeling somewhat down, but it will lift eventually. Nihahi, you're doing well to stay out of that waiting room . . . hope DD will be helped soon.

DH has been trying his best to cheer me up. He just left for town. Made a grocery list, and he will get that too. Have invited 10 people over for dinner tomorrow, and now I'm sorry I did, because I just want to do nothing at all. On the other hand, cooking/preparing will keep me busy for the rest of the day, and keep my mind occupied. The company will also be good for me. Feeling like this is quite abnormal for me. Never once felt this 'don't-care-anymore-about-anything' during the whole cancer drama last year and up till now. I was probably bound to crash and burn at some stage.

Traii, enjoy your well-deserved holiday! Edi, Caitlin, Movie, Carla, Dakota and anybody I may have missed, hope you have a wonderful weekend. First of all I am now going to take the dog for a walk to clear my head. Then I will tackle the cooking.
