Froggy12, I actually went to Baltimore. I didn't have much time in town. When I flew in I checked out a large mall in the area, then went to my appt with Vinnie, went out to supper, and then headed to my hotel to sleep before I flew out the next morning.

Tamiami, congrats on your appt date with Vinnie! It will be here before you know it.

Froggy~  I just noticed that our DX are almost identical...except yours was much bigger.  Kinda weird when you see such a close DX.  Have a great time in NOLA!

Tamiami, I noticed the same! It is kinda weird. Do you have family history? Have you had anyone question your BMX choice?

Froggy~  I have a very strong family history.  Mom had BC twice 11 years apart, her mom had BC twice 15 years apart, my only aunt had BMX, and now me.  That is EVERY female in our family over 40.  I have 2 much younger sisters, and a 28yo daughter.  I should have the results of my BRCA and BART testing next week.  If anyone says anything about the BMX, I always say that given my personal and family history of breast cancer I know with 100% certainty that I did the right thing!  No one has ever disagreed (or they knew enough to keep it to themselves)!  Is your family history crazy too?

No, mine isn't crazy. My Mothers Mother had it and now me. After the results of the open biopsy and a long talk with my surgeon and the pathologist, I knew what I wanted to do. I have had people ask me why the BMX. I just explain that it is a personal decision and that I didn't want to deal with it again down the road!

Interestingly, I only knew about the DCIS in my left breast before the BMX.  When pathology came back, I also had LCIS and ADH in the left breast and 2 precancerous conditions and 3 different atypical cells in the right breast...surgeon said it was just a matter of time before I had cancer in the other breast.  Also, had I followed protocol and had the lumpectomy and radiation, I would not have known about the LCIS which was in a different quadrant and is a precurser to bilateral BC, and would have needed the BMX eventually...hopefully before it became an invasive cancer!  Like I said, 100% sure I made the right decision!

I just saw Vinnie in Baltimore. He was pretty rushed and distracted. Also running over an hour late. I think he's still adjusting to his newfound popularity.  Fortunately I booked with him before he raised his prices by 50%, otherwise I would have skipped it or postponed it ($600 for bilateral tattoos now). I don't think I'll be able to get the $400 I paid covered by insurance, but I'll try. His office tries to be helpful by making up a receipt with a procedure and diagnosis code on it... the problem is, the diagnosis they wrote down is not my diagnosis, so the form is useless to me without editing it. In fact, it pretty much guarantees I'll get a claim turned down, so in the scanner and photoshop it goes.

Anyway... I'm not sure what I got is what I wanted, and I felt a bit like he phoned it in. But fortunately I wanted something that was barely noticeable, so as long as that's what I get in the end I won't sweat the details. We'll see how this heals.

Jeskachi will you be posting the results in the picture forum? I have been considering this route and would like to see the results on a natural recon as well.

    Thanks much

Jeskachi~  Can you explain what you mean by barely noticeable?  Does that mean very light?  I'm sorry you felt rushed and not well taken care of...that sucks!  Hopefully this is not something that is happeneing all the time now.  I hope when they are healed in a few days that you are happy with the outcome!

Yes, very light. I'm a fair-skinned redhead and my natural areola were pretty much skin-colored, so barely visible, like a blush pink.  I wanted more color than that to make the nipples look more natural, but not so much that it doesn't seem like it belongs with my coloring. He had to mix in some blue to his lightest shade to get it to be more pink than peach, but I think it'll work. It's still darker than what I had originally but that could be the scabbing mixed in (I bled a lot from the tattoo).  It's only been a few days, I'm sure I'll know more in a week or so.

I'm guessing Vinnie is more focused when he's at NOLA... what else is he gonna do? :)  But at his shop in Finksburg there are walk-ins for regular tattoos and this weekend there was also a tattoo convention in Baltimore he was getting ready for.  So his state of mind was understandable, but it was a distraction for him.  I waited an hour past my appointment time to be seen because he was working on another woman, then he rushed through my appointment in 40 minutes. Not sure why I didn't warrant more time, but I felt a little cheated.

Jeskachi:  I'm sorry to hear you were rushed through your tattoo. I have my fingers crossed for you that everything heals great and ends up being the color you want.  I have to match my natural uni- which is pretty light and pink - very nervous that I will end up something too dark. You are very observant that there are probably much fewer distractions in NOLA for him.  Please keep us posted! Liz

Jeskachi~  Thanks for the explaination!  I took pictures of my nipples and areola's before my BMX and plan to bring them.  My mom and sisters are natural redheads, and I have fair skin so I understand what you mean about light and pink...not peach.  Sounds like you knew what you wanted and I'm x-ing my fingers that it will turn out perfect!  Smile

I also am a fair haired natural redhead, and my natural nipples were very light as well. Hoping he has the mix when I go.

Jeskachi, I am sorry that you felt rushed, especially after waiting so long and of hearing so many rave reviews of his talents.  I am hoping that with time you will be pleased with your results, please keep us updated.  I am sure you are right about his newfound popularity, I hope he can figure it out.

jeskachi-It will take until the tattoo heals to see the real results.  It will appear darker and redder before it heals.

Vinnie worked on me in NOLA (right side). I felt it was somewhat rushed there also.  I have nipple sparing the other side.   I had a previous tattoo done on the right side by T.J. Dill in her Rochester, N.Y. shop a number of years ago.  (Original tattoo faded over the years and then Dr. D. did some work on the right side - which made the tattoo fade even more.  It was almost gone by the time I saw Vinnie.)    I have to say that T.J. spent much more time with me. Though Vinnie did a good job of matching the tattoo to the other side, I think she (T.J.) did an even better job-- getting a closer match with shading and color.   Of course this is just a single comparison.

jeskachi, Sorry to hear about your expeience! I do pray that you will be happy once they are healed. I sure hope that your experience is not going to start being his norm. I am going to NOLA Wednesday to get mine, I plan to take pictures that we took prior to the BMX. Unlike you, I am not very fair skinned and have dark hair. Please keep us posted!

Tamiami, Wow! I at least knew about the LCIS prior to my decision. I never doubted my decision, but there have been times when the pain was so bad that I wondered about the reconstruction! Were you by any chance taking any hormones when you found out? I was.

Home from NOLA from trip to see Vinnie! The visit was amazing. The Breast Center is very nice and the staff are all very friendly and helpful. My appt was at 2 and I didn't have to wait at all. I never felt rushed at any time and he made me feel very comfotable. My husband was with me and the three of us talked the whole time. As I expected it hurt more on the right than the left, but it was tolerable. He told that any time I needed a break to just let him know. I am very excited about the way they look! Kinda of shocking to see nipples again after almost 10 months! The clinic gives you all the supplies that you need for follow up care.

froggy12, so nice to hear a good report from NOLA. I was getting a little nervous. Scheduled my appointment today for December10th 9am. Figured if I was his first appointment he might not be quite so distracted. Glad you are pleased with your tatts!

froggy tht is great to hear. I am trying to decide when I should get mine done. DH wants to plan a trip to NOLA get my tats and enjoy a long weekend of fun down there. Were you uncomfortable at all after you got your tattoos? Is it realistic to think I might want to walk around NOLA after getting them?

Carrol2, It is very realistic! There was a little discomfort but I took some tylenol and was fine! Since we only live about 3 hrs away, we drove home afterwards but did stop for dinner. I think you will be fine. Keep me posted! We love to go to New Orleans!

Hello Ladies, I had my exchange on 2/27 and was introduced to the fabulous 3-D tatts by Vinnie. I noticed that many have gone and I would love as much info and detail as possible. I live in California so yes I'm going to be traveling very far to have this done but I truly believe it's worth it. I have never been to Maryland nor NOLA. Read some other post about women feeling rushed at his tattoo parlor and I don't want that. I would love this to go smooth and easy as possible. This is the icing on the cake so having it be a perfection is very important to me. I'm trying to decide where to go? NOLA or Maryland?? Please ladies let me know what you think (and I know all the outcomes came out perfect or WOW)?

I just don't want to feel that I'm making a wrong choice. Thanks, Dawn

Gee I wish I would have gone to Vinnie in the first place.  I had a horrendous tat experience in Ontario.  Still having surgery to fix her mistakes.  Vinnie was $300 at the time when I ended up going to someone else instead .. . huge mistake!! I was supposed to have them done last week by Vinnie but I ended up needing one more surgery.  Now I see that his prices are $600.  With airfare, hotel, car rental etc, in addition to the $600 having tats may now be out of my reach.  Very disappointing Cry
