Stupid question - silicone foobs
OK, so I thought I would like to try some silicone foobs. I was holding off because of the cost, but last week I found some on Amazon on some kind of crazy supersale at 90% off. So, I figured that at 25 bucks it was worth the experiment.
They are small (A-cup), asymmetrical and perfectly nice looking. EXCEPT they droop. What is up with that? They look fine when you put them on, but half an hour later, it is as if they have sunk down in the cups and are migrating towards my navel. Do all silicone foobs do that? Is there some trick for making them "stay up"?
I thought my real ones drooped after I had the kid, but they were downright perky compared to this sorry thing.

Hi Momine,
I am so sorry, but I snorted hot tea when I read this. Hot tea in the nose is not nice, but the picture you paint of the drooping silicone foobs was priceless.
Please don't be offended, I don't mean to make light of it, but you just have a way with your words that got me laughing.
I bought an Amoena Natura Light, they advertise this as a very natural looking foob that conforms when you lie down. It is supposed to look really natural, but the truth is it is really "perky", and a tad too hard in comparison to the real one. It certainly doesn't droop a lot, just moves a little to look a bit more more natural. I also have another amoena that is a discontinued style which is a much better match to my existing breast. It has a very slight ski jump shape, but doesn't droop excessively, and is much more mooshy, and soft, more like an almost 60 year old breast feels. Sorry if that is TMI.
I have to ask, were they actually prosthesis that you bought? or enhancers that go on top of real breasts. I found myself in a site the other night that catered for cross dressers. They even have a recipe for making your own silicone foobs. Very interesting! I digress LOL
Did you put them in a pocketed bra, or just in a normal bra? Were they ones that attached to your chest? If you are putting heavy silicone foobs in an Ahh bra, type bra, that may be your problem. They aren't made to go together.
Can you give some more information? I'd love to help you work out what went wrong with these "foobs".

Ariom, no worries, if we can't laugh, what is left?
Not offended at all.
They are "real" foobs, not enhancers. They are advertised as post-MX foobs and look it. I do have them in a genie-type bra, and you may be right that this is the problem. But because of LE, I really can't wear some sort of iron bra, or any normal bra really, so if they can't work with something softer, I will go back to other kinds of foobs (which is why I did not want to spend 500 bucks on these things).
On the other hand, they are really quite small, and therefore not that heavy. It really is as if the silicone "pools" towards the bottom of the pocket.
-
Momine, I've had three sets of silicone foobs and none of them have done quite what you mentioned. However, I did have one set that was much too small and they drooped down in the bra. I found that if I put them in a cover with some lambs' wool behind them they stayed as they should. I have been able to wear foobs up to a size 4 in the Genie bra without problems so if your foobs are small I don't think weight is the issue.
Feel free to PM me if you want a better description of the lambs' wool thing.
-
River rat, that makes sense. They are about a size 3, I would say, so really not very big or heavy. I will experiment some more. Thanks.

I am so glad you posted this, because it happens to me too, which is why I wear the memory foam amoenas when i choose foobs.
My silicons are amoena...and I did buy a size 4 but my real ones were size 7. But I can't take that weight and since I have had a double mastectomy, i get to choose.
Ok, so what I see happening is I am concave, and the top part of the silicon eventually disappears right into the concave place, so I am left with the droop part projecting out. in my case, I didn't have any droop with the real gals, so I don't want droop now. I have read to put something behind them so they are more prominent, but it is all too much work at that point.
Silicon foobs seem to address the issue of women having extra skin and needing the foob to be concave, but no one addresses what to do about our body being concave.
The foam ones seem to eventually get pressed into the concave places of *me* but do it slower than the silicons.
I do like that you found the foob inexpensive, I am not going to spend any more big money on this unless they come out with something that is more right for me.
-
Crystal, thanks for posting. I tried different bras, including a proper MX bra. What I see is that the weight of the silicone (although the foob is small) weighs down the pocket, and the lower part of the foob stretches out either the actual bra (if it is a genie-type) or else the backing of the MX bra pocket and basically starts sagging below the actual bra cup. It also seems as if the silicone itself sort of pools towards the bottom. After half an hour I look about 103 in profile.
Backing the foob with something rigid might help along with re-inforcing the pockets at the bottom, but I doubt it would be all that comfortable and would also mean that the silicone would not feel good against the chest.
I will keep experimenting and will let you know if I find some sort of solution.

Momine- I'm just wondering if there was a reason that those foobs were on 90% sale? Could it be that they just aren't very good? It sounds like the silicone pools down to the bottom inside of your foob and that really isn't supposed to happen. With my silicone foob, the silicone stays put within the form. Why don't you go to a real mastectomy store and try some on to get a feel of if the foob you have is normal? Also, if you find another type you like, you could look for them online and buy them when they are on sale. I used the fiber-fill forms for many months and didn't think the silicone would make a difference, but I LOVED it when I got it. It looked so much more real and felt better. I understand you have issues with LE, so that makes things different. Good luck in finding a solution!
-
Another thought, silicone foobs can be quite heavy. If you are using a Genie bra, you would want as light as possible. Are yours advertised as being light? I have "light" ones and they are still pretty heavy in a Genie bra.
-
Krcll, I thought of that, but I did go to an MX store and the ones I tried there seemed to do the same thing (I didn't try many though, because they won't let you browse in those damned places). I am thinking that for silicone to work, the bra would have to be very tight, both against the chest and around the foobs. I suspect that this is the main problem. Also, my ribs create a sort of wave effect on my chest, so the foobs probably do not make good contact and there is room for them to "fall down" behind the bra band.
You are right, the silicone does feel better in many ways than the alternatives, which is why it would be nice to get this working.

My first set of silicone foobs were the very smallest ones and they totally sagged too! I wanted small cause I had been small and didn't want weight considering I have BMX. I don't use those anymore.
You probably need a more structured bra. I found success with molded cup bras that have some shape built in. Then the foob fills the space but doesn't create the shape - the bra has the shape. I don't use mx bras, only off the shelf bras. I hate tight bras, underwires or anything scratchy. It can be tricky to find a bra where the cup has enough coverage to hold the foob.
I use many types of foobs and different bras, for different activities. The most perky (really bombshell) look I can do is with two bras. I take a very soft, unstructured nylon Hanes Bra (I think it's called Barely There). It has two layers of fabric in the cup. I cut one layer open and put the foob in there. Then, over this bra, I put a structured molded cup bra. I use the Warners, the one with the little "bump" on the bottom of the cup - I think it's Elements of Bliss. Since I hate anything tight, i use extenders on both of these. the first bra holds the foobs near my chest. The second bra supports the first bra. The look is excellent and it's not uncomfortable. I have guys checking out my chest all the time when I wear this. It cracks me up cause it's all fake, but no one, no one, could tell, even in a tight tee shirt. I use size 4 Natura light Amoena forms for this.

Hi Momine,
Sorry this is proving to be so difficult. I have just received my Amoena Contact. I had a problem with the Amoena light that I bought. so returned it and got the Contact instead. Have you watched the video for the Contact on the Amoena website?
The reason I went for this prosthesis, which I should have bought right from the start, is because it can be attached to the chest inside a normal bra. It can also have the sticky side covered and used inside a pocket Mx bra.
The video on the website shows a woman, who has had a Umx and is very small, as you describe yourself.
I can't use this prosthesis attached for a while yet because they say you have to wait till 6 months after surgery, but I have tried it on several times and really like it. I have a deep concave below my scar going under my arm, but this still sits well and atttaches into the dip. Inside a bra it falls just like the real one.
I have been on the hunt for the "perfect" prosthesis, but have discovered that for me, there are several options that I need. I know it sounds very over the top to have the softees, the microbeads, the Contact, and the Basic Light Amoena, but to be able to match the other side in all circumstances, that is what it takes. It is really easy for me now, to dress exactly as I choose.
The reality is that I haven't spent a great deal of money on these items. Our Government reinburses $400.00 on single prosthesis, every two years. We're out of pocket for the difference, and when you consider most prosthesis here in Aus are approx $450.00, much more expensive than in the US, but I don't know about Greece where you are, it is a reasonable shortfall, but is recoverable from our private health insurance if we have it. I have insurance, so my Contact was paid in full. The others I have bought online, the everyday Basic light from ebay, and the microbeads from websites in the US.
I discovered another interesting product last night called "BustFree"Mastectomy Prosthesis which I believe is a double up of two sizes of their standard BustFree Bra inserts. It was apparently invented here in Australia, I am not sure how well it would work for me, being Umx, but for you,it may be worth a look. At approx $40.00 for the pair, it is a mighty cheap option for you, and no weight whatsoever. If they work, they would be ideal for those who can't take the weight of a silicone prosthesis.
Although I prefer the Mx bras, Amoena Mona, being my favourite, and a great cotton one that is Target's own brand is another great one, the beauty of these prosthesis is that they can be worn in a normal bra. In fact the non prosthesis advertising says that you don't even need a bra, that these things can be held in place by a cami, vest, or a tight Tshirt.
I'd love to hear from anyone who has tried these, either for Umx or Bmx.
Sorry to be so long winded, but just wanted to share what I have found.

Ariom, thanks for posting all that. It is not that big a deal, but is somewhat annoying. My insurance does not pay anything for prosthetics, and I would spring the 4-600 bucks, IF I could be sure I would be able to use the darn things.
Somebody posted that the American Cancer Society has foobs that you can freely look at and try out at some of their locations. I may try to find one of those places next time I am in the US. So far I have gone to 2 MX shops, in both they basically told me that they couldn't help me if I was not able to wear a regular MX bra, then reluctantly showed me a few foobs, each one brought out and ceremoniously handed over while two women stared me down. As a result, I am not super-hot on trying that again. I may try the amoena shop here in town, but it is far away, and I have met the very nice woman in charge. Last time I saw her was when she came to the hospital to sell me a pair of fluff foobs for post-surgery. She pushed hard for me to get the biggest size, why? "You are tall, so you can carry it." Yeah, but I am really not THAT tall, and I never liked large boobs.
Thanks again, I will check out the products you mention. I did also fire off an email to the company I bought these things from, to basically complain. Maybe they have something intelligent to say about it.
-
Oh, and I just watched the video of the Amoena contact, and you are right, that woman is a similar build to me. Interesting product.
-
My pleasure Momine, just wish I could have helped.
I can understand your reluctance to return to that shop after your experience with those two women.
That's when you wish that a few of us could turn up there together, and give them a run for their money!LOL
-
Ariom, you did help. Thanks for all the info and for listening, as it were.
