Pink thanks so much for the very informative post! Especially since my turn is coming up in a couple of weeks! It helps to kind of know the order of things. DH is telling people this is my last surgery. I told him it could be my last but may not be. I think he thinks that if he says something it miraculously is! Like he told me I didn't have bc!

And Cascader you truly gave us hope in your telling of how you are happy with your progress. I think both your and Pink's posts are so helpful in many ways including calming pre op jitters (mine)💉

Don't know how many times I may change mind, but as of today, I am leaning toward Vinnie's 3D tattoo for my nipples. Pink did Dr K say anything about nipples?

Pink - thanks for the kind words and good advice. I leave on Sunday afternoon so I can get some exercises but will have to work on them during the trip. I will be gone until April 25 and am a little nervous but since I work with a bunch of guys I have to hang tough! :)

Good luck with the surgeries - I look forward to hearing it went well...

Cascader - your happy news makes me happy too. Even with SSNS mx I have stage 1 symmetry and other issues that I hope improve with the next steps. Sort of squat looking and not so elegant at the moment. So your news helps me know it is a process that just isn't through yet.

Also -Cascader - what size Marena did you buy vs your normal size? I want to have something ready I case it is needed.

Cascader - thanks for posting! It's wonderful to read about how much you love your results. You are a beacon of hope for those of us just starting out.

Pink - thank you for all of those details. I think best when I have more information...kind of like information overload :). And reading about your pre-op gave me a good sense of how the process flows and what I can expect in a couple of months. Best wishes for a smooth surgery and a great outcome for this stage! Enjoy your beach day!

    Pink,

GoOd luck tomorrow, loved your post! Laughed about the fried chicken and can relate about Dr k saying next time... What do you mean next time?? He also left me questioning if I had fat knees!! :)

Sounds like your HBOT worked , hooray for no fat necrosis.

Look forward to hearing from you when you feel up to it.

Catie, I bought a size Medium Mareena, which is my normal size , I wore it for 8 weeks, and after the first month or so I think I could have used a small. Not sure if that was because of me, or if it stretched out.

Just a note to anyone having their surgery in Charleston between April 3 and 5, traffic may be a bit heavy.  On Saturday, April 6 is the annual Cooper River Bridge Run.  There are between 35 and 40 thousand people registered to run or walk the bridge.  This is one of the top shorter distance running events in the US and attracts an international field.  There will be a total influx of almost 100,000 people in our cute little city.  The bridge will be closed from about 7 am til noon that day.  The runners begin in Mount Pleasant and end at Marion Square.  Lots of roads downtown are closed for the morning and many in Mount Pleasant.  There are ways around things to some extent.

Why, you ask, am I posting this?  Well, I just realized that my Stage 2 is the day before when the crowd is building to their maximum.  I am thinking it will be really interesting to see if my doc can even get from her condo across the penninsula on Saturday for a post op visit in the morning.  Yes, this is so large a community impact on a small historic city that our synagogue even holds services in a private home because no congregants can get to town on Saturday morning.  This is going to be interesting.

Yikes, Mart, maybe you need to let your Dr know about this in case she needs to sleep over at the hospital? Which hospital do you go to?

Thanks for the info - hoping you get the visit on Saturday!

Pink - thinking of you and hoping all goes well'

Catie - i will be at Roper downtown, across from Hope Lodge, but the race also effects East Cooper Hospital.  I am pretty sure that Dr. M is an early riser, so it may not be a huge problem - or not.  Your doc lives on James Island and would have to take a route around his elbow to get to his ear to get to EC before noon or 1.  It is just one of those things, but it really caught me by surprise.

Oh yeah - I'll be connected. In fact, anyone who wants to see any photos I upload to FB can PM me with their info and I'll friend them. It will be physically hard but I think it will be fine. I still get tired easily and don't sleep very well. I can sleep on my side, per the dr, as of 8 weeks out, but it isn't comfortable anymore.

I'm especially interested in people's part 2 experiences since I'll be there on May 6. Please keep me posted. I will be thinking of all the folks coming up for their various procedures.

    Hi all

My Stage 2b (or i prefer stage 3) bilateral SGAP surgery went really well and only four hours this time.

Dr Kline kept me a second night because my blood pressure low, pukey, high pain, and my one and only drain filling fast. He did the major breast revision on radiated breast and did surgical work on the evil axillary cording of which mine was very different and he did a different approach. So most of my pain centered on right breast and chest wall. I will get copy of my operative note next week to get a bettet understanding. He has excellent dictation.

Lipo from tummy and knees to fat graft to breasts not a piece of cake for me either. A while ago i told nurse i only wanted one oxy but changed my mind after 30 minutes so we are just going with full doses till i discharge tomorrow. Really hope to get off oxy soon so I can drive around near and far.

PT wrapped my arm before surgery and again today. Dr K wants me to start therapy right away so i am starting it here with East Cooper PT-CLT and will see my local PT in about three weeks when i get home. Probs is my Summerville friend can only drive me on her day off which is mondays. When i went to HBOT therapy for 30 days after Stage 1, ACS Roads to Recovery drove me to half of the appointments. I may try that or just go twice here on mondays before i leave.

I think the shape of my breasts looks tons nicer but as we all know they need to settle after each surgery. So now they are both B cups Plus I will have two more fat grafting mini surgeries to go ... and who knows what else.

Betsy, have i caught up with you yet? ;)

Almost forgot ... I dont have on any compression girdle!!

My knees were wrapped for 24 hours and my arm wrapped twice. My belly completely black and blue.

Was going to call my DH tonight, but since he is U Michigan alumni i knew better to not call during game.

Catie, I still hope to try to get together with you.

Marty, thanks for all your help and tips. My friend has only lived here 18 months so I've been able to fill her in. Good luck with your surgery too!

Pink - so glad you are doing well. Really surprised that you have escaped compression on lipo areas. Very fortunate. Don't wean off the oxy too soon to give yourself a good chance to heal. You'll be out and about before you know it. Weather is warming up now.

Catie, Glad to hear you are getting your deposit back. Hope he is good to his word!

MartyJ, at least you know about the bridge run. Can you imagine someone coming in that has no idea what a big deal that is!! I'd like to do it next year after all this is over.

I am feeling better and stronger. I just get frustrated bcs I have always bounced back fast, but not this time. I still have vaseline gauze that I have to put over the nipple area on the left breast where he used the smaller vessel. It's not closed up or healed much, but it looks better. Everywhere else is ok.

I have large areas of fat necrosis. Dr. K told me to expect that on the left side, but the right one has it , too. In fact, right now both breasts feel like they are half-n-half! Dr. K said bcs of the small vessel that we would wait until September for stage 2. I hope he changes his mind & goes in to fix this sooner. I have no fat on my hips & legs, so if he cannot get enough from my stomach (which I do not think will be a problem), he will have to go to my back.

I'd like these to look more like breasts, although I will admit I like looking down and seeing something! But, only with my clothes on! These "flaps ain't purty", in fact, the hubby called them Frankenboobs....kinda made me mad, but I did not say anything because it is the truth!!

    Ketch,

Im not sure how far you are post op (your date not at top), but my breast flaps were not looking great after stage one either. The second surgery should make a difference or even the third as in my case.

Im very thin so dont have luxury of being overstuffed which is easier to contour at next stage IMO. At second stage he lifted left flap and moved as much as possible without hurting the attached vessels. He had me wait 18 weeks between surgeries and wanted longer but i asked for sooner and he did. He didnt do right radiated side at stage two as i was also having LNT on that side. So this third surgery my breasts are looking real, but they definitely need time to settle once again.

Because of my implant mess and underlying probs from radiation and severe cording, im not looking great -- yet. So i hear you on styling frankenboobs with all scars from previous surgeries (i've had 7 surgeries in 21 months on this so not fun BC journey) It's a matter of time, which i dont like to hear.

Please be sure to tell Dr Kline your true feelings and what you hope to see improved. He really wants you to be happy. I email him on regular basis with questions and attach a Powerpoint doc with pictures of ongoing timeline of my breasts and donor site starting day before mastectomy. (i use the compress pictures option in PP to reduce file size.)

I had him fix my "mouse ears" as i referred to them as compared to dog ears. Very minor but he was happy to fix and smiled cuz I called them mouse ears.

Im fortunate that i have zero fat necrosis. Am definitely praying for good survival of fat grafting! Dr K took fat from my belly and knees this time. When i see him at discharge this morning one question will be where will he get fat from next time.

As far as pain goes, Im fine as long as i dont move. But gotta get moving to recover! This oxy and antibiotic do not make my stomach happy either.

That would be awesome if you did the Cooper Bridge run--a great goal to achieve after all you been through. My running days are over, just a walker now which makes it easier for me to stop and smell the roses.

Here's a PSA for those of you sharing photos remotely:  http://www.dropbox.com

You can upload large photos and share them with a link. That means when you send an email to your doctor with a link to the photo, they just have to click on the link to download it and then see it. The download happens pretty quickly (more quickly than opening a large PPT or similar file).

You don't have to worry about large attachments to email (which many email providers block as spam) or putting photos in a different program. You don't have to compress a photo so much that it's small and blurry and doesn't show what you need it to. No one can see the photo without a direct link to it.

Free accounts are available and will give you plenty of space for photos for your whole recovery. Your doctor will thank you!  (in fact, I'm surprised they don't suggest using something like this from the get-go)

P.S. You probalby still want to resize the images to a reasonable size... I usually made mine 1200 pixels in width or height, depending on photo orientation (i.e., 1200px was the longest side).

Pink- so happy to read that you are on the other side of surgery!!!!

When my DIL comes into town the Monday after my surgery we can figure someway to get together even if it means us driving your way! It just has to happen

Did Dr K say anything about nipples? I contacted Vinnie last night just to get the general info - still not sure but leaning that direction and going to forgo my son's offer to draw them on me! LOL

No compression? Wow! I've got plenty of 'stuffing' so will not hold him to no compression for me, drats - but would be nice! I do have knee area I would like some taken from - does that bother you now?

Like Sewanee, I'm very much interested in what to expect in my upcoming stage 2- so Pink and Marty and all thanks for any info!

    Jesk

Compressing pics in pp has no effect on quality. Worked in medical research and used it all the time. Link sounds interesting though.

Just got home from hospital. Feeling very pukey. Good thing im hanging around a few weeks. Have a hematoma by drain and BP still low. Have to take iron. Cant pull my drain myself this time because Dr K needs to see me this week. Originally was told i didnt need a post op.

Was going to take shower as soon as i got here but too dizzy and my friend wanted me to wait till she gets home from work. Time for toast, zofran, oxy, and nap.

I'm a web designer, and technically compression = loss of quality. It's not an opinion, it's just the way image compression works.

But that's not important. If what you're doing works for you, great. But for those who are at a loss for the best way to share high quality photos I was just suggesting a solution that doesn't require the receiver to have a certain piece of software to view them or force them to deal with ginormous email attachments.

I'm sure the docs deal with all scenarios, but a solution like Dropbox is really the most efficient for all parties. And efficiency means getting your doc the best information in the shortest amount of time, in this case. Everybody wins.

    YMMV

Did you put compression on your hematoma? Was it also at your drain site?

Stomach is already unhappy, and now gets to say hi to iron pills .....

Pink so sorry bout the tummy problems, hoping they soon ease up. I hate those nasty iron pills and I think Dr K only tells you to take them if you can't/don't eat red meat or you REALLY need them badly. I used to get shots for iron, wonder if that's a possibility?

You may be able to charge admission when your PP is complete and you are at the end of your BC journey - might be a new revenue source!

No compression, in terms of a garment. My hematoma came from a small artery that burst somewhere in my hip, 10 days post-op, for reasons unknown. Could have been compromised somehow when the flap was taken, could have been related to blood-thinner, etc. I heard a loud "pop" the night before and thought a stitch had burst. No pain and no immediate symptoms. About 15 hours later, bright red blood started coming out around the drain and in it too - not at a high rate, but really obviously a sign of bleeding somewhere around the surgical site in my hip. The dr had me lie o. That side to compress it and the bleeding eventually stopped. The hematoma was the residue that had collected inside and hadn't yet come out. After the episode a week or so passed before more came out around the drain site - this time, dark "old blood" colored. We opted to let it drain as it continued coming out, although not through the drain. Annoying but not painful and the drainage helped prevent really bad swelling although there was some swelling.i stayed on doxycycline and after a month it had run its course and finished draining. So my drain was in for about 6 weeks.
