Hi everyone,

This is my first post in this forum.  I finished rads yesterday (30 tx), so today I decided it was time to start back up with real exercise.

I belong to a unique gym called Koko Fit Club.  There are some scattered around different parts of the U.S.  I joined back in November, about a month before I found a lump and was dx'd with BC.  I put my membership on a medical freeze and had not been there since early December.  So you're probably not familiar with this gym, but it's sort of like Curves except that it's coed and you work out on a machine (sort of like a Universal weight machine), and your workouts are guided via a computer screen that is at each machine.  Your reps are measured on the monitor, and you're told how much weight to use, how to position the seat, etc.  You also follow a specific fitness program.

Anyway, when I went back in today, I decided to start from scratch since I had not been there in over three months.  To my delight and surprise, one of the guided programs is called "breast cancer recovery."  Its focus is on safely and gently rebuilding upper body strength.  The program still incorporates core lower-body exercises like squats.

I am pretty amazed how unstrong I felt today (I won't go so far as saying "weak").  I have always been a sporadic exerciser (though I know I have to commit to steady, consistent exercise from now on), but I guess I am not usually as sedentary as I have been during these past three+ months.  But then again, I don't typically have back-to-back surgeries and six weeks of radiation in the span of three months, either!  ;-)
