Hi,

Something is wrong with my husbands right chest/breast.  Within one week his right areola turned a purplish/black and the nipple remained pink.  The family Dr. refered him to get a mammogram and punch biopsy.  The mammogram bame back normal.  We are waiting for the results of the biopsy.  This has been a fast process less than three weeks ago his chest was normal.  I have asked him about swelling under his arm or in his neck, and if his chest area is warm, his answer is I dont know and I dont want to think about it. He is 60 years old.

    Men can get breast cancer, IBC included. If the biopsy comes back benign, you should take the slides and the report to someone with a knowledge of IBC for a second opinion. Where are you located? There are IBC clinics around the US. For your information, IBC doesn't usually show on a routine mammogram. You need a "diagnostic mammogram" where they are specifically looking for the sheeting or nesting of the IBC tumors, not a solid lump like in regular breast cancer. That is why I suggest an IBC specialist.  The best thing to do is to get IBC ruled out...then you can concentrate on things that are not as aggressive. 

    I wish both of you luck and hope you'll follow up on this list.

    Thank you for replying so fast. We live in a small town close to Little Rock, Ar. I'm thinking we will get the results by Tuesday. I will post the results.

    Sorry to read about your husband. I won't be much help but wanted to let you know you are both in my thoughts. I've been on my journey for 3 years with no end in sight and the waiting never gets easier! I hope that you find answers soon!

    need a bit of advice... does ibc involve skin peeling or flaking off??

    Ritrit, I don't read anywhere that flaking or peeling is a symptom. It is much more likely that you have a resolving fungal or bacterial infection or allergic reaction. Fungal infections flake & peel (think athletes foot) and breasts are a great warm & moist environment for them to develop. Check in with your primary care doctor.
