Trip to see Vinnie

Sue713,
Treat yourself to crabcakes at G&M. They are delicious! It's not too far from the airport.
-
Ladies - I am still mulling over the 3d nipple idea. I know I don't want raised ones, but the 3D is enticing. Has anyone here regretted going from Barbie boob to 3D nips? I think it is kind of fun to wear a man v-neck with no bra. But a "normal" look would be nice also.
BTW - I was in Baltimore last weekend for a wedding, and somewhat afraid to drive in the big city. The wedding was close to Vinnie's shop, and driving was no big deal. ( I'm in OK.) We did however drive to Penn Station and then take the train to DC to the Smithsonian for a few hours.
Do you really think Vinnie makes that much of a difference. I heard of someone locally who does it, but I am hesitant to go that route.
Also - what is the recovery like? Do you have to limit activity?
-
CNN did a short news clip about Vinnie Myers and tattoos for breast recon a few nights ago. Here's the link:
-
Thanks MLP! I think I might check that place out for supper when I'm there
-
I had my tatts done in October and I'm still in love with them. I haven't regretted it for a second and smile when I look in the mirror and see them. Do I think Vinnie makes that much difference? I do. He's been doing this for years and for the last few years nipple tattooing is all he does. Personally I don't you can have a level of perfection if you just dabble now and then. Even my plastic and breast surgeon were highly impressed.
But, you have to do what you feel is right. No recovery other than not going swimming or getting in a hot tub. Vinnie gives you instructions on aftercare which are similar to regular tattoos. It's important to keep the tatts hydrated so I had to rub a little neosporin on them a few times a day. When washing no rubbing, just patting with your fingers. Also had to keep them covered for a few days. Vinnie even supplies the neosporin and special nonstick
Driving around Baltimore wasn't bad. I'm not a big city driver but did just fine. I actually stayed in Owings Mills which is closer to his shop and outside of Baltimore. Even drove to DC for a day and it wasn't bad. Of course it was on a weekend though.
Can't think of anyone else I would have wanted to do them. -
Thanks Chrissilini! I have one more PS appt (since I fell on the right side 3 weeks post exchange my PS put me on papaverine to increase blood flow to that side). Then I think off to Vinnie I go!
-
I live not far from finksburg, md....maybe 20 minutes....
Pretty sure that I don't want nipples but am more amiable toward getting a tattoo of one. Does anyone know how long you need to wait after exchange surgery to have tattooing done and how much does it hurt? What's the difference between what the ps does and what he does? -
Merlcat - I think that I've read where most women say they had to wait 3- 6 months after Exchange to get their tatts...
I asked my PS the same question, and since I am having some reconstruction-related issues, he said to give it a year in case I need revision surgery. He knows how much I revere Vinnie's artwork, and the PS said it would be a shame to damage that through further surgery.
As for the difference as to what the PS can do and what Vinnie can do, my PS explained that his equipment was not capable of doing the intricate shading that is neccessary for a 3D tattoo.
I think it would be like the difference between the Mona Lisa and a stick figure!!!
I showed my PS pics from Vinnie's gallery, and told him to start taking Art lessons!!!
(Just speaking about my own PS - gosh - there may be some real artists out there... wouldn't THAT be nice?)
-
Thank you blessings2011,
Guess the smartest thing? to do I to ask my plastic surgeon when I see her on Tuesday for my 4 week follow up...yay! 4 weeks! Hopefully, I'll be able to 'do' more after this visit. -
I was wondering what you all thought. I have had nipple reconstrucion but I now need the tatoos. I was going to plan a trip to see Vinnie in NOLA for two reasons, 1. cause you all are so happy with his work and his website shows great work and 2. I could incorporate it into a little mini vacation.
Now my questions are this :
is it worth it to get his tatoo if I have had nipples? or would that be overkill? I want the best I can get.
also would I be too sore after to be able to enjoy a few days of hiurricanes and gumbo afterwards?
-
Merlcat,
I have an appointment in May with Vinnie in New Orleans. When I first exchanged email with him, he said if I didn't have any nipple reconstruction that I could get the tattoos in 6 weeks if I had nipple reconstruction I would have to wait 12 weeks.
I just had another surgery on Feb 6th to do some clean up work and some fat injections adn my ps gave me the go ahead to get the tattoos.
Hope this helps!
-
Carrol2 - I think quite a few ladies have had Vinnie put the finishing touches on their reconstructed nipples...if that's what you're asking...
You can check his gallery - some pics are of tattooed reconstructed nipples and some are just the 3D tatts only.
And I think a few days of hurricanes and gumbo would take any soreness AWAY. But only if you're talking about hurricane DRINKS....
-
I just got a tattoo with Vinnie today. I made my appointment last November. He is a really nice guy. He has a nice office with some pink. Personally, I hate the pink, but his work area wasn't overbearing. He has several cards from thankful clients. A few Ravens pics (Super Bowl Winners!!) LOL I like the Ravens, since the shi**y Eagles aren't worth following.
This isn't my first rodeo, but I have to say THIS TATTOO IS THE SHiT. I love my PS as much as anyone. Her tattoo was just ok. Vinnie's is TOTALLY AWESOME.
-
Glad to hear you had a great experience, Dawn. I can't wait until I can reschedule my appointment.
-
Well I am seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. The journey started Sept.14,2010 and after going through first reconstruction and one revision August 15,2011 that did not work and being in pain my PS tells me that there is nothing else he can do, so I decide to go for a second opinion and I am so glad I did. This PS tells me that he can help me and those were such sweet words. He gave me smaller implants August 1, 2012 and I felt so much better. Then October 31, 2012 he did a revision with some fat grafting. He did my last revision with more fat grafting Feb. 12, 2013. I have my appointment to see Vinnie for my tattooing at NOLA May 15th. I am so excited.
-
debbieg2010 - yay for you!!!
I'm just beginning that stage where I have to decide if I want a second opinion. I've recently considered swapping my very large implants with smaller ones, and using fat grafting to make up the difference.
But I've given myself until August (a year after my exchange) to make any big decisions.
I always thought I would have been to see Vinnie by now, but I want to be sure I'm done with surgery first. Don't want to destroy his amazing work!!!
-
Blessings2011, I agree with you on waiting till all your surgeries are completed. My first PS had already planned to do my tattooing in his office 3 months after my revision and something told me that things were not right and then the pain got so much worse and it felt like I was carrying 2 concrete blocks on my chest and they did not feel like part of my body so I am so glad I did not go through with the tattooing. Things happen for a reason. The day my smaller implants were put in they immediately felt like a part of my body. I was amazed at the difference. I think of the tattooing as putting the cherry on the top.HAHA My first implants were 500cc's and my new implants are 300cc's and with the added fat grafting I am so much happier. I am a small person 5'1" and 115 pounds.
Good luck on your second opinion. I hope you get what you want.

I am scheduled for exchange to implants in mid-May, and plan to go see Vinnie afterwards--my sister lives in the area, so I can have double the fun on this trip. It sounds as though a Vinnie tattoo is really worth the effort.
-
debbieg2010 - so glad to hear you are happy with your smaller implants and fat grafting! I hate to think of disturbing my horizontal BMX incisions now that they've faded... did they do your implant swap through the IMF? Or through the original BMX incisions?
Hildy910 - congratulations on getting your Exchange date! Just be sure to check with Vinnie on how long you have to wait after surgery before getting tatts. I think he has a suggested waiting period.
-
Blessings2011- Sorry it took me a while to get back. When I had the swap of the implants my PS made a very thin and short horizontal cut to the side, more under the arm for the replacement. My BMX scar has faded as well. I hope things go well for you if you go for a second opinion. Stay in touch.
-
Can anyone tell me what happens to the tattoos when you have to exchange your implants (every 10 years)? Do they cut around them? Are the incisions in the fold instead of straight across the middle?
Tami

That's great to hear kayb!! I didn't know that about the 10 year mark...assumed it had it be done! I just emailed Vinnie to make my appointment. Exchange is May 1st. Where are you having yours done?
-
I just had my 3D tats done by Vinnie in Baltimore yesterday (waiting in airport right now to fly back home). I LOVE my 3D tats. When he was done and I looked in the mirror, the first word out of my mouth was WOW!! Vinnie really does do amazing work!
-
kayb~ Please keep me posted here. My husband and I decided to do it in NOLA...always wanted to go there! I'm calling this morning to make the appointment!
Sue~ I'm not surprised! How long did they take? Did you feel it? Did you have nipple reconstruction as well? Bilateral tatts? Price? Lots of questions! So happy for you!
-
Hi, Tami,
If you would, let me know how far out Vinnie is scheduling. Really concentrating on exchange right now. Haven't even considered I might need to schedule tattoos this far in advance. Soooo many things to consider sometimes my head just feels like it is spinning! On the up side, 11 more days to E-DAY! -
Tamiami - no problem for the questions, glad to help if I can. Total time was probably about an hour and a half. I would say the actual tattooing took less than an hour. I did feel it some (more on left side than right), but not to bad. I did not have nipple reconstruction (just the tattooing). I made my appt a few months ago, and I paid $400. I'm not sure if his fee recently increased or not. They gave me the form to submit to my insurance for reimbursement (see how that goes). If you go to NOLA, I believe they take care of the insurance benefits for you. Do you have your appt in NOLA all set now?
-
Peanutsgal~ I called and talked to Cynthia in NOLA and the first available appt is in September. Vinnie will be there Sept. 10-11-12, Oct. 8-9-10, Nov. 5-6-7 and 12-13-14, Dec. 3-4-5 and 10-11-12. I talked to Richey in Baltimore and asked about August, and Vinnie does have appts available. Now I'm just checking my work schedule and trying to coordinate with my husbands. WooHoo for e-day!!! I'm right behind you! Keep me posted!
Sue 713~ NOLA does try to work with your insurance company for you. Crossing my fingers that they will pay, but am a little doubtful. The fee I was quoted, for NOLA and Baltimore is $600...it's gone up, but still worth it to me. I'm just doing tatts too. I hope to be able to book by Friday...just checking schedules!
-
Sue713,
I am so glad to hear how impressed you were with your tattoos! I will be getting my tattoos next Wednesday in NOLA and I am so excited! I saw your post that it hurt more on the left than the right, was your cancer on the right? I have never had a tattoo and am a little nervous.
-
Thanks, Tami! Will definitely keep ya posted. Glad yours isn't much longer!!!!!! We can do this : )
-
froggy12, yes my cancer was on the right side, so not sure if that had something to do with it. I have never had a tattoo either (and was also nervous). Now that I'm done, i realize there is nothing to be nervous about (sit back and relax...you are now in the final stage). Don't get me wrong, the feeling i felt during the tattooing was nothing unbearable, just that I did feel it (I've just read where some women didn't feel anything). And Vinnie and I just chatted the whole time, so you kind of forget about what is even going on. You will be just fine! Congrats on your appt! Let us know how it goes.
