Thanks for your response.  I emailed my doctor last night and his assistance says he will get back with me soon but was in surgery all day.  I asked for another surgery to fix the right and to make the left bigger more to the same size as the right.

Evelyn... I have had two stage II surgeries and will probably have one small one making it three revisions. Mine are now ALMOST perfect... You deserve it... Go for it.

will insurance pay after the second revision?

If there is a problem, yes. You can't just say I may be even and have symmetry, but want Dolly Partons... But if you have any symmetry issues, then you should be covered.

How wonderful for you! I hope losing weight helps mine but fear it won't be what I hope because of free tram and mesh. :-(.

    Hey everyone,

Just wondering if anyone else has continued pain in either/both breasts?

I have continued pain in both the "good" and "bad" side. On the good side it seems to be against the chest wall where I assume the original tissue is meeting the newly transplanted tissue. On the bad side it seems to be in that same place but also I am still getting a burning sensation every now and then where I think my two nodes came from. My two nodes removed were actually not way under my arm-pit but closer to the side of my breast.

Just not sure if I should be panicking about this pain...

Just a quick recap of my insurance saga.

After the final denial from BCBS to pay for my reconstruction because I used an

out-of network PS, I finally settled out of pocket with the Doctor.  The Stress was litterally killing me!

I was waiting to settle this issue so that I could move on to stage 2 and 3. Now I am ready to get those NIPPLES!!!

So I called the only PS in my plan that does this procedure at MSKCC and made an appointment for April 3.

The only consolations that has come out of me having to pay a lot of money for my boobs, is that they are pretty much perfect and not in need of any revisions. All I need is the nipples and the areolas and then, I can pretend that all this has been a nightmare, and that I can finally wake up and move on with living my life!!!!

Beckers. I think weight loss will help even with the mesh. Just my two cents. Hope I am right.

Jenn. Sorry for your pain. Perhaps some of it is nerve regeneration

Mena. Nightmare indeed. So sorry but glad you are pleased with your results. Who was your original doctor? And who will you see at msk?

Great one of my coworkers just posted on fb she iscoming in tomorrow even though she is still sick. If she makes me sick i will be so mad at her. Am almost over my itty bitty cold. Not really appropriate stuff for fb imo.

I have had sinus drainage for few weeksnow. Have been controlling it pretty good with my netti pot. But last few nights I wake up with hacking wet my pants trying to cough up my lung cough. Andwhen ever I bend over I have this horrible pain in sinus.

I havnt been taking any coldmedicine. I am afraid of how they will mix with tamox. I guess mucinex is okay. Its a expectorant. I dont want anything to dry me out. Ie make me more prone to blood clots.

Fran hope you feel better. Can you get some antibx or heavy duty cough meds? We all shared a similar bug and it took 3 wks to shake!

Jenn, I thought I was past the sharp pains but have one every now and then. I'd double check with your dr though if you're worried about it. I'm also still tender at the Snb site.

I'm dealing more with ab issues this week. I must have picked up my boy too much or something. Every now and then my body just says "slow down!" It's almost 5 months. Most days I feel pretty normal though.

Just talked to my friend who had diep a week ago Monday and she's feeling pretty rough. Bought back memories of how hard those first couple weeks were. I know many of you have gone through so much more. You are all the strongest, kindest, and gentlest women around!

Mena, I am glad you resolved all your issues and are ready to get nipples, I feel like they made a big difference for me.  I am, however, sorry that you had to pay so much out of pocket.  It really is awful when we have to make very important decisions at a time when our minds are reeling from a cancer diagnosis and we are not thinking straight.  Dr. Korn does do fantastic work.  I love my new boobs, they aren't perfect, but they look great and very normal which is what I wanted.  I keep telling him, "I wasn't perfect before, I don't need to be perfect after".  Thanks for your reassurances before my surgery, it really helped me to hear from someone who had the surgery and used that surgeon and to know that the results were good.

CG:  My BMX and DIEP buddy!  Glad to hear you are feeling well.  I am too.  I am all back to normal activity and ready to move on with life!  I had my Stage 2 three weeks ago and got my nipples.  It really does make a world of difference in making the breast appear "normal".  You will be even happier when you get them.  And that fat grafting worked great.  I am only three weeks out, so I don't know if it has all "taken" as the doc said only 50% will stay, but the area he filled in looks sooo much better!  Good luck with yours!

Sptmm62, so great to hear you're doing well!! I bet you're running all kinds of marathons! I'm happy that stage 2 was a success. How long until you get tattoos? I see the ps in a couple weeks to schedule my stage 2. I'm think I'm ready! Can you believe how fast that went? Happy healing to you and enjoy spring in NY!

I kept my own nipples but they took them off and repositioned them. Now, they are not the same color. Hmmm. Do you all get tattoos? Where do you find good tattoo artist? Also, how long is it until you know what fat stayed after grafting because I am 2 1/2 mos out and I think most of it is still there.

Beckers... I think at 2.5 months you are safe with the grafting.... and check out Vinnie Myers tattoo artist. His home is in Maryland, but he travels a bit too.

I will do that. Maybe he can recommend someone on West coast. Does insurance cover the cost?

It should, but you may need to submit your own paperwork.

I've been offline for awhile....had my DIEP in Nov and supposed to get a date for stage 2 in May or June. Got a question: my chest above my new boobs (sternum?) appears protruded now. I've been asked by friends if its swollen, but I think the loss of tissue in the mastectomy left a concave profile. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it something that can be adjusted with surgery (maybe a lift?) during stage 2? I feel guilty about complaining but it does make my breasts look more unnatural.

Rebecca, your ps might have someone there who can adjust your color. A couple of nurses do the tats in my ps office but I've also heard it's important to see what type of ink they use etc as some fade and need reapplied. There's a nipple recon topic where you can get more info from the girls there. Vinnie is supposed to be the best but I think he is only traveling to Nola now and doing them in his Baltimore shop. I've heard it's about 3 months to get an appt with him. Your insurance should pay but not sure if they'd give you problems since you had nipple sparing. I think Vinnie is $300-400.

Jill, your ps should be able to fix that with fat grafting I'd think. I have a small divot up high that's getting fixed too.

Jill- yes, they can do a lift at Stage 2.  Right from the get go there was a hollow area above my leftie and we knew it would need to be lifted (rotated a bit too).  My PS noticed it at a 3 week Post Op and she said it could be fixed at 2. Don't think you are complaining.  You live with these girls and they should look natural.  If you don't ask you your PS will never know what is bothering you.  Can you get a consult before your Stage 2 pre-op?

Rebecca - try to google natural breast tattoo and a number of sites will pop up.  You might just find someone on the west coast.

Beckers....what took the bulge away?  I thought they'd done a bit of lip in stage 2 but it's still there and my onc now thinks it may be hernia.  I see the ps on Monday.  Before, the ps, onc & gp all said it was my physique, that they when they do the flaps they take the same thickness from the stomach area.

Vinnie...tattoo artist, has an amazing website.  I sent him a message about someone on the west coast, Beckers, but he didn't answer.  That's totally the way I would want to go if I were going ahead with nipples.  No more surgeries for me, but I did have my hair colored (the onc pharmacists and nurses said no reason not to), and now I'm totally freaked out!  It didn't take as it usually does (blonde to cover loads of grey), so it's a wonky color.  Plus, NOW I read on the internet that you shouldn't color when going through chemo (last time I had no hair!) but the kind of chemo I'm getting for my liver lets  me keep my hair :)  UGH...may have to go au natural & look my age...LOL.  The worst part is, now I'm worried I screwed up treatment.  Never a dull moment.

Chacha...I would guess that your ps will be able to fill the void with fat grafting.  It's pretty remarkable how it works (so let him know where you want the fat removed...I did, and it looks pretty good!).  I wouldn't call it complaining either...you should be happy with what you've been through!

Good to see sisters are getting to the finish line with diep!

Thanks, ladies. I will have a consult in May and will ask about what can be done. I have Kaiser, which has been great so far....but I don't know yet how much revision they will cover. But you are right, I need to ask. Thanks!

Shianne, I didn't have rads but my DIEP was Aug and my stage II was the end of Dec. No problem Ronnie. I was wondering cause I'm in your boat with the bulge still. Hate it too! :-).

Shianne, I had rads after chemo and my bmx but before reconstruction. I'm scheduled in 2 1/2 weeks for one diep/one implant. My PS wanted me to wait at least 6 months after rads.
