Love the variety in that delightful sounding recital....and hope you have regained your steady self, Michelle!
Carole, your birthday dinner sounds wonderful. Makes me want to get down to that neck of the woods to have some local eats. Glad you had such a great time!
Eric, nice for you to be able to slow down a bit....why do I think you will stepping it up in the kitchen?!
Enjoy! -
Susan, I am so sorry to hear about your dad. Sending you hugs.
Laurie, thank goodness your son is better and he slept for 17 hours! Did you sleep too? Or did you use the opportunity to catch up on chores? And we didn't say you could be a nurse -- we said you could be a doctor! Start studying, we will all come to your graduation ceremony and then take you somewhere posh afterward and we will all get smashed

Carole, I am jealous of your car wash!!!
Your birthday dinner sounds wonderful. I'm going to go to a car wash tomorrow, just because of your post. Hard to find one here in which they do the inside -- in this warm weather place everyone is expected to wash her own car!
Carberry, I know it is a pain, but I think your daughter sounds sweet. Let her boss you around a little bit! She obviously loves you.
Bedo, I did notice that Moonflower called me Bono, but I did not mind, because Bono is such an excellent role model. How was your presentation? Am I reading it wrong, or is your daughter just extremely polite and solicitous right now? I'm afraid she sounds sweet as well

I've got to be the bad sister. I'm working so hard on it. I just put subtle blue streaks in my hair (at hairdresser's) They washed out right away but my rebellious bad-sister spirit remains!
Dinner: roasted beet, 1/2 avocado, protein shake.
-
Thank you Eric!
-
Eric - the link was clickable - recipe looks good but DH doesn't eat salmon at all.
DH is cooking bacon and some sort of French Toast for breakfast. I think he actually researched a recipe, base on his description of "crispy" French toast that uses a little flour in the batter. This should be interesting!
-
Wow Michelle, Rick's becoming quite the cook!
Carole, your birthday dinner sounds lovely. Except for the no dessert part ;-)
Tonights dinner is an Amish roast. Don't know what makes it Amish. It cooks in a Dutch oven in the oven for 5 hours. -
Michelle, the recital sounds adorable. I do so approve of children being taught to play musical instruments. I longed to play the piano when I was in elementary school and did take a few lessons from a woman who came to the school. But we didn't have a piano at home. Couldn't afford one and no room for one in our small house full of children. Sorry about the nausea attack. I love hearing about your dh's adventures in the kitchen! He seems so sweet and supportive.
My friend Julie has put herself on the Aztec diet, which I had not heard about since I don't watch Dr. Oz. It sounds quite healthy and quite vegan for the first couple of weeks when the diet consists of smoothies made out of veggies, fruits, berries, and the chia grain. The latter supplies the protein. Julie is dropping a lb a day, which is a lot of weight loss, but the caloric intake is quite small. After those first 2 weeks, you start introducing regular food.
Bedo, my dinner last night was the same as yours. Nothing. I had a roast beef poboy from Bear's, a local hole-in-the-wall popular eatery, for lunch and an orange about 5 pm. We went to a wonderful choral concert that ended at 9 pm.
Today we're having a family get-together at my mother's house to celebrate my birthday. The noon dinner will be pork roast, mashed potatoes made with cream cheese, and a green salad that will be massive since my brother Gary is bringing it. DH just went to pick up the cake which is Death by Chocolate. There will also be ice cream. My niece's three kids, 9, 7 and 3, will be there and my mother's house is the same house that was too small for a piano. So it will be crowded and noisy and fun.
Hope everyone has a great Sunday!
-
Bobo you wild and crazy sister. I think my job would fire me if I put blue streaks in. I look like an innocent upstanding member of society (which I am at work, hehe)
The little dog who my daughter named Jezebelle for some reason has removed the eye from my stuffed polar bear, and the sqeeky thing from the inside of the cat toy. I just took my heating bill away from her, she was tearing it up. We will have to go to the dog park. Have been home all weekend due to cold.
The presentation went fine, it was by conference phone, the hard part was praying that 2 cats 2 dogs and dd didn't make noise. DD had her computer on and it started "talking" I kept shooting her wicked eyes. Yes she is a good girl. Maybe she is thinking she will miss me when I make my imaginary escape to Ecuador. Just like my imaginary escape to Barrow, AK to live in the Inuit culture
Peopod just delivered. Going to make some lentle soup with onions, garlic, canned tomatoes and whatever else I can throw in there, then mason jar salads for M-W (I'm taking more time off as my collegue quit and will leave end of month.)
I will get to play at a free Cajun Fiddle workshop with David Greely, fiddler from Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys with a bunch of other fiddlers this week. Fun!
Now to make the soup
-
Carole I am so glad that your birthday dinner today will fianlly have some cake! Your dinner last night sounds delish but for a birthday...there must be cake!
Michelle I think you have your own personal band within the family. So sorry on the sickness afterwards.....are any of the nausea meds effective for you?
Yeah Bedo..how did that presentation go?
Lacey I love hearing the stories of your chili cookoff and of your impressive family. I learned to play the clarinet by ear also as a child and when I moved to a new high school the music teacher would get so frustrated with me because I could not read notes Actually I could read them to play them but had no clue if I was play a b an a or whatever. I quit the band and turned to twirling a baton....they had cuter uniforms ha ha
-
Went fine Carrie, I sounded like a pompous boring old $$&% to myself. lol
-
Michelle, I'm glad you're getting some energy back. I'm sure it lifts your's and DH's spirits equally. :-)
Susan, my condolences to you and your family. I'm sitting here remembering 1983. The last month, when Mickey was in hospice, she kept making me promise that I'd "keep on keeping on". I'm still amazed (and humbled) that with what was going on, she spent so much energy worrying about me. I'm sure your dad would be the same and want the same for/from you.
-
Carrie - my SIL plays bass guitar, drums, saxophone and a few others. His brother plays guitar, mandolin and violin. My daughter has a great voice. I see all kinds of potential, especially considering how young the kids are. It's going to be fun to watch if the kids stay interested.
It's a random thing for the anti-nausea meds. I've got them all...zofran, compazine, scop patch, decadron, ativan, emend. I'm trying to spread them around, and not take every dose of every kind. My best days are treatment day and the two days after, which I attribute to the emend. If I would take more decadron it might solve the problem. But it raises my blood sugar so much that I'm trying to hold it to 2 mg twice a day. Honestly, if I get up a little too quickly, that's a quick trigger. And I have a gag reflex that defies description. Sorry if this is TMI.
-
Carberry, please post a picture of you in your baton-twirling outfit immediately.

LuvRV, poor baby! I am so sorry for your nausea. It sounds like your sweet husband is making French toast because he knows you love it

Bedo, did you know I play the violin as well? Of course you do -- we were probably playing together our whole lives and driving our mother crazy. So happy about more naughty puppy stories! They make me indescribably happy.
Carole, your dinner sounds fantastic, as usual. I feel like I am living inside of an episode of Dynasty when I read about your dinners. And -- you look beautiful in your picture! DLLP washed the car inside and out today -- she was the car wash.
Bedo, do you know the Sade song about Jezebel?
Jezebel wasn't born
with a silver spoon in her mouth
she probably has
less than every one of us,
But when she knew
how to walk
she knew how to bring the house down
Can't blame her for her beauty,
She wins with her hands down ...

-
Michelle,

-
Bobo, now she's chewing up my reflex hammer and an empty tootsie roll wrapper. Likes it better than the $36 worth of toys and food that dd forgot to leave when she went on a camping trip with BF till Thursday.
Dodo, you know is a professional violinist. And *Susan* here is too. I played viola and only started again 4 years ago. I switched to violin so that I could play with groups. Hard to play a tune with a bunch of viola players. No more classical I was never professional, but now I play for free tickets and comps for friends plus all the cheeto and sprite I want in the green room for free at local festivals with a group before the real fiddlers.. it took me about 4 years to get back to where I was. Where do you play?
I'll show you the mason jar salads I make, I've shown them to others before. These, a boiled egg maybe a cheese sandwhich and seltzer water and I'm good for breakfast and lunch these are from the web and last all week without meat, I don't know about with meat. Can also make cool pinapple or berry and yogurt or cottage cheese layered things. When time to eat dump on plate, dressing is on bottom so ends up on top and doesn't wilt the greens
-
Bedo, I cannot believe all triplets play the violin. That is too much.
I am out of practice, seriously. I put myself through college playing, though. And then I played table-to-table at restaurants, for tips. Soon I'm going to teach violin at my daughter's school. Better practice up! It's always been my dream to play in a string quartet. So glad you switched from viola. That clef is wack.
Your mason jar salads are genius! Wow. They're fancier than I thought they'd be. I wish your puppy was here right now!
Dinner: vegan cream of mushroom soup. Grilled vegan cheese sandwich made by DLLP. I made vegetarian chicken and dumplings for the kids. DLLP made pork chops for DS as well. My daughter thinks pork is disgusting. I don't know where she got that idea.
Laurie, how are the boys?
-
*Susan* sorry about your dad. You might try recording memories of your dad. Yours, your husbands, kids. Spend one night just taping them. It might he the memorial you need. You can always take it with you to the summer memorial. Also, maybe making a disc of his favorite music to be played when you are missing him? we did something similar for my DMIL when she passed last Dec. For some reason, we don't know why, she would start singing Springtime in the Rockies at random times. No one knows why. But we played that and other of her favorite songs too at the funeral home.
Bedo and bobo, for some reason my spell check likes to spell your name as bono for both of you, I thought I fixed it. Oh well. Laurie hope your son is better. Michelle, A bunch of talented DGC you have.
I went to my sisters church spaghetti supper today. It was pretty good, but the noodles were over done, surprise! LOL
To all, much love. -
Susan- I'm so very sorry to hear about your dad. I was trying to catch up when I got to yours and my heart just ached for you and made me cry. Sending you love and prayers for you and your family. My deepest sympathy!!
Michelle- I saw you had a blood tranfusion and sorry you had to go through that but glad it made you feel much better.
This thread looks wierd. Everything is all on different sides. Hmmm
Anyway~ Nothing good to report so didn't want to post until I saw Susan and Michelles Post. My dad is not going to be able to do the chemo now because of too much spread we are driving to see my dad this Thursday not sure about anything at this point. Chuck is getting worse and almost stumbling his balance is way off. As for me, I'm still grieving everyday and struggling. My friend told me that I have to relax and just get on with it. It was a good thing it was on the phone I might of slapped her. She thinks she the grief police now. (slight smile) But, I did want to say that I have had so many signs from my sister I wasn't planning on posting that here tonight but since I'm here I might as well. They have comforted me.
Ok, this one is wierd so not sure about a sign but will tell it anyway- After my sis passed we were getting ready to drive to my dads and Chuck and I heard this loud crash inside the house we both said what the heck was that and went through the whole house and did not see anything but we thought how freaky that was. We got to my dad's and later that night we all were sitting in the living room and we heard that same loud crash my dad's wife Roberta yelled what was that and she went through the house and did not see anything broken or anything. Chuck and I looked at each other and said Hmm that was weird same thing happened at home. Still wasn't sure... Then I had a picture of my sisters from her service and had d/l into my pictures. I was sitting on my bed (crying) was not on my computer and my cell phone buzzed saying I had an E-mail so I opened it, it was the picture of my sister and it was from me to me. Im like huh? I did not just send myself a message it was sent from me to me. So I knew it was Cindy saying hey sis I'm here. So the next day I was laying in bed and yes. crying and told my sis Cin if that was you and Im not sure if it was or just a coincidence give me a sign that i will know it was really you, right at that moment my music box started playing all by it self, only for about 5-7 seconds but I knew it was her for sure. It made me feel so comforted at the time. This was the second time the music box happened. My mom bought me the music box when I was 16 and when I first found out about my dad's cancer I was in the bedroom crying and it started playing for a few seconds I knew at the time it was my mom trying to comfort me, so this was the second time in all the years I have had it that it started playing. I hope this helps anyone else who believes in this kind of things and helps to let them know that they hear us and are OK!
Sorry for the long post wasn't planning on writing that much when I first got here tonight. Hi to everyone and hope you all are doing good. Laure Hope your DS is doing better. sorry I can't reply to everyone but I think about you all everyday.
Love and hugs!
-
(((Debbie))) - so glad you posted - we don't care how long it is so long as it makes you feel a little better! You pour out your heart any time and we'll be here to listen and hold your hand. So sorry that your dad can't get some kind of treatment. I hope the doctors can keep him comfortable and pain-free. And what is the treatment plan for Chuck? I hope there is something positive for him very soon.
Yesterday was a better day for me. My daughter came over in the afternoon and we ended up going to a Japanese steakhouse for dinner. I actually enjoyed the food, ate about half and took the rest home for lunch today. There was a 20 month old little boy at the table with his parents and he was so darn cute - he was enjoying the show and the look of delight was just precious!
-
Debbie So glad you posted, it is so good to hear from you. I totally beleive in "that stuff" I know that your family is looking out for you and sending you messages that they are ok. Prayers for your Dad and Chuck. Did Chuck schedule to have the surgery done? Cant remember where you guys were on that issue.
Just to let everyone know..the Easter Bunny is alive and well and living under my front shrubs. He took off running when I was doing a walk around the gardens to see what damage winter had done. I hope the little bugger doesnt eat the tops off my spring plants that are starting to pop up.
Last night was homemade pizza Not sure about tonight. Gonna hit 60 deg today before going back to the 30's.
-
(((Debbie))), I'm so happy you're finding some comfort in the midst of your loss. I'm sorry about your dad. I hope he can be made comfortable as well. Really wish you didn't have all this on your plate. Please post again when you can. We miss you.
-
Well, the Amish roast was good, if lacking in seasoning. The review called for a round or sirloin roast (I used top round) rubbed with a paste of marjoram, Dijon mustard and allspice. It gave an interesting flavor but didn't seem to penetrate the meat. I think next time, I'll add garlic and salt and let it marinate for a little bit. The roast was then braised in a Dutch oven on a bed of veggies in a slow oven for 5 hours. The meat was very moist and tender and the vegetables very flavorful, but it was basically pot roast.
Today is pasta day. I'm making braised chicken legs with lemon pappardelle and a salad. I expect to be covered in flour before all is said and done. Some day I'll learn to make pasta without all the mess. I never see Mario Batali covered in flour./p> -
Nancy: Mario Batali IS covered flour -- he wears a white jacket
And why don't you leave the Easter bunny a nice plate of lettuces and other vegetables? Maybe he will leave your plants alone? I love that Easter bunny!{{{{{DEBBIE}}}}} I believe in that stuff too. You are so sweet. Sending you a kiss.
Carberry, glad you had a good supper.
Tonight: leftovers, thank the goddess.
-
There was a time when I took a perverse pleasure in serving braised rabbit for Easter dinner (not wild hare, although you couldn't really call ours wild. They were fearless.) Now my enemy is squirrel.
-
Good lord! Don't eat that bunny! I want to kiss him. The fact that he is naughty is even better!
My mother is also at war with squirrels. It is a long war.
-
Debbie- (((((hugs))))) is Chucks surgery soon? I hope he gets relief very soon, it must be so scary for both of you. Love the stories of your sister showing she was still with you. I had several moments similar after my mother passed. Some would call them eerie- I loved them. I still like to believe when I am struggling and a perfect old song comes on the radio she is trying to make me feel better. I hope things get better.
Laughing at the bunny talk! I had a cat who was my love, slept on my chest every night and was the dearest thing. (he died last summer) One night, in a snow storm he came to the door with a dead bunny in his mouth and dropped it all proud of himself. I was so disgusted I honestly did not sleep with him for a week. Funny, a mouse or chipmunk and I praise him- a bunny and he got tears. Poor cat.
I am starting to feel like crap but taking airborne and c &d and having faith I will win. Boys are being extra naughty today and are both currently in time outs in their rooms. I decided to be healthy and instead of having traditional fried eggplant parm was roasting my eggplant to make a kind of layering dish with it. I don't think it is going to work
Eggplant looks pretty sad and soggy after roasting. Kinda bummed. -
Laurie: Fry, baby, fry! Fry that eggplant, you need the extra calories if you are sick.

Love that story about not sleeping with your kitty love! I have to side with the poor kitty. He was bringing you all of those animals as his way of providing for the household! Love how you drew the line at a bunny.
And... love that the boys are both in time out right now! My daughter will be soon to join them, I'm sure. I gave her an ice cream sandwich on the way home from school. Once the sugar hits her system she's going to be extremely bossy.
Dinner tonight for us: creamy puttanesca (creamy with cashew cream), rice pasta, salad with almond dressing. Coconut ice cream: 'naked almond fudge.' Plus the finale of the Bachelor!

-
One whole page of posts was so weird! The pictures on the side didn't match the people. Carrie's picture was on Michelle's post. Michelle's picture was on Debbie's post.
DH's father had some eerie happenings after my MIL passed away. He was sitting in the living room and heard a noise in the tiny foyer. A book had fallen out of the book case in the foyer. It was one of my MIL's favorite books.
I would love to have some communication from my dad. I do think of him often.
Debbie, I'm sorry about your dad and do hope he won't suffer.
Warmed-up leftovers tonight. I'll be glad when the birthday cake is gone. I ate some for breakfast and ate some more at lunch. It is sinfully delicious. I felt so guilty at my WW meeting this morning!
Nancy, I would love to visit you on your pasta days and watch you get covered with flour! Then I'd stick around and eat the pasta.
-
We had a cat that trapped a rabbit on a fence and was having her way with it. I was so mad at that cat and there was nothing I could do.
DH is cooking string beans with bacon and a little sauteed shallot - he's getting more adventurous every day. He picked up a roasted chicken and we're having "crispy crowns" (like tater tots only better) at my request.
I agree with Bobo - fry that eggplant!!! And extra naughty boys - LOL!
-
Debbie, so good to hear from you and learn of the ways your family members let you know they are okay, to comfort you. It reminds me of an experience my sister told shortly after my mother left this earth (exactly four years ago today). They were extremely close, and had lived together for many of my mother's last years, so her loss was so painfully felt by my sister. DS called me one day to say that she went out of way to a nursery to find a special plant to grow in her memory, and as she went to get a carriage there was a clean white handkerchief in the carriage that had embroidered on it, "Miss you". Meant the world to her.
I also hope that Chuck is able to benefit from some safe interventions soon.
Tonight for dinner we finished up the Snow Day Soup I posted last Friday along with chicken salad sandwiches....mainly for refrigerator food management. I often think it would be great to have another fridge, but honestly, I'd probably just cook more and have the same problem of too much food waiting to be eaten! Part of my problem is housing all the bulky greens that I use to make my morning smoothies. Tonighht I have some really black bananas to turn into tasty bread. On The Chew today they were talking briefly about using parsnips in desserts....and I bought some to try making a cake that is similar to carrot cake....might be interesting.
Hey Laurie, glad the boys are feeling well enough to earn some time outs!
Did you turn your mushy eggplant into baba ganoush (sp?) So delish!
Have a good evening all......
