Good morning everyone!    Rocket....I'll join you with a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast today....had mine with blueberries this morning.  I use the lower sugar instant oatmeal, add the boiling water, let it sit for a couple minutes, add the blueberries and microwave it a minute or so.  The blueberries get nice and soft and cooked...its almost like having a blueberry muffin....almost.  Wink   Did you feel better yesterday?   I hope so...we do need that protein, don't we?  Know what you mean about pizza.  Do you like zucchini?  Using the small ones we like to saute some in olive oil with some onions, some chopped tomatoes, either fresh or diced from a can, then add Italian seasonings...sometimes put some mushrooms in there too.  We usually make it as a side dish, but if you can have some cheese, could top it with some mozzarella or a little parmesan.  Other times we will make it with Mexican seasonings and add some corn or black beans.

We didn't get all the snow they were talking about.  40 miles or so to the west they had almost 7 inches but it skipped over us.  A good thing, cause it was a heavy, wet snow.  Did mostly housework(ing) out yesterday.   tenaj....the mango green tea sounds delicious...bet that smells so good.  I have been able to drink my tea without sugar too.....took me awhile to wean myself off of it.  If I have a cold though, I will sometimes put some honey in it.  Stress eating seems to affect all of us on here...so hard to unlearn that habit.  No matter what we do, there will be stresses in life.   You have a good stategy in planning out your snack/treats!

kindergarten...you were brave in giving up sweets for Lent Smile  Keep hanging in there!  There are so many temptations around in that department.  They say it takes a month to break a habit, but its really hard to give up desserts.  They are so connected to celebrations.  Have a good day today.   I am feeling better...thanks everyone.

Dearest, Jaytee, you are making my mouth water, but in a very nutritional way. The oatmeal recipe sounds so delicious!! I love oatmeal and blueberries!!! With giving up sweets for Lent, the oatmeal tasting like a blueberry muffin will suffice!!! I am so glad you are feeling better and, oh , the zucchini recipe sounds fantastic!!!! So far, I have been able to let go of sugar, it took a week or so!!! I had withdrawal, he,hehe!!!!! I come here for motivation and inspiration, thank you, thank you!!!! Weigh in again, tomorrow!!!! Hugs to you all!!! Hi, CookieMonster, ATeamNana, Rocket, Tammy and Tenaj!!!!!

Hi kindergarten........rooting for you to have a good weigh in tomorrow!   Tried something else good today--my daughter told me that she made tuna with an avocado instead of mayo.  Never would have thought to try that...it was delicious!   I had an avocado that I had to use today...mashed it and added a can of tuna...a whole avocado was probably too much for 1 can of tuna, would use less next time, or use 2 cans of tuna and save some for another day.   I sprinkled in some lemon juice, salt and pepper, chopped celery, would have used some sweet onion or scallions if I would have had any.  I also used a little cumin.  Some chopped cilantro and small diced tomato would have been good in there too!  Guacatuna or tunamole!   I will make that again!

You are inspiring too, dear friend!   Have a nice evening!!

Hi kindertgarten and everyone!  The weekend is here.....hope you all will have an enjoyable one!  kindergarten.........isn't it great to have a good Bp reading?  I tend to have the white coat hypertension at the doctors office.  The Bp readings don't look bad on my home monitor, but get me in that office and I just hate that moment when they take the bp and the nurse gets that concerned look on her face.   I get that feelling like I am going to flunk the test!   The regular walking does wonders though.  I actually had a pretty good reading last time I was in for a check up too.  Keep up your good work!

We have sunshine today!   It feels good!  Yesterday, I picked up my daughter from school for her spring break.  She has been working so hard.....and is so ready for the week off.  Glad to have her home, looking forward to cooking her some of her favorite meals.....it will work out well because she is my healthy eater-----when she is here she keeps me on the straight and narrow as far as eating is concerned.  Before we left the big city yesterday....we made a couple stops at some 'foodie' destinations.  Looked around a Whole Foods that isnt too far from campus and a place called Market District.  Will have to take DH back there sometime.  He is a foodie too!  Didn't get to Trader Joes...that is our favorite place!

I'm leaving to go back down to my sisters today for a baby shower for my niece.  So excited to have a new baby in the family. She will be arriving in April sometime.  Can't wait to sit and hold her.  Babies make me smile.  Ive got a little while before I have to get on the road....think I will get out there and take my walk before I leave.

As always have a great day everyone.  Hope you will all be able to get outside and enjoy some exercise time.  Have good success in making healthy choices in your eating today and if you stray a little, no big deal.....I know I am going to eat a cupcake at that baby shower!!  Wink

    Hi everyone,

I hope you don't mind if I join you ladies here.  Kindergarten suggested I look it up and just from this page I can see it will be helpful.  I am also excited to see Rocket here and look forward to getting to know others who are in this boat.

To tell you a little about my cancer journey, I was diagnosed 8/5/11 and had the masectomy on my one side, chemo, radiation and the hysterectomy with ovary removal.  I finished all that up at the end of May 2012 and then began aromasin.  I have gained soooo much weight.  Every time I go to the doctor which is every 3 months...I've gained more and they tell me not to worry as long as I'm not losing.  I got up to 172 which I have not told anyone......like they would be surprised....they do see I've gained for sure.  When I arrived at the hospital to have my twins I weighed 163!

I would ask my doctor what I needed to do and they would tell me just exercise which I didn't like organized exercising before but I did enjoy being active.  Now everything has snowballed.  Muscle loss, low metabolism and during chemo nothing tasting right but sweet and starchy which everyone was so kindly sending over.  I do mean kindly no sarcasm here.  I appreciated all the support.  Now I do want sweets more than I ever have in my life.  I think I am hopeful for quick energy.

Anyway, I listened in on a webinar by Living Beyond Breast Cancer Wednesday and I finally got some good information.  I thought perhaps I couldn't get the weight off with all the changes.  Dieting didn't seem to work but the webinar gave me a lot of encouragement.  So, I'm ready to get started knowing moving will help with my pain and not cause an increase in pain.

I have started with simple things.   I am counting calories and I'm doing 1200.  It's my 3rd day and it already helps mentally knowing weight gain does not have to be my destiny!

Can anyone recommend a good pedometer?  Hope I spelled it right.  I have in the past but I need a good one that won't clear the numbers accidentally.  I have had a couple be never one I really liked.

I'm going to read some of the older posts later but can tell you already from the last few posts I am so glad Kindgergarten told me about you all! ~ Thanks

Hi everyone, I've been away and have just caught up....you've made me hungry with the great healthy recipes! I love avocado and blueberries so all ideas are great fully received!

It is always great to catch up on this discussion board....Jaytee, just reading that babies make you smile made me smile...hope you enjoyed your cupcake!

Fondak, welcome! I have an Omron pedometer that I loved...until I saw my friend's Fitbit pedometer that wirelessly downloads to her iPhone...I want one but will make do with my Omron...for now.....

I bought the pedometer when I joined my hubby in The Global Corporate Challenge last year. That was before my diagnosis but I kept wearing it during my treatments and "mostly" getting my 10,000 steps. It is a great thing to make you aware of how much or how little movement you are getting. The Omron stores 7 days of data so you can't erase it even if your want to forget a low steps day!

On a bad note, my fitness buddy is moving :(

I'll have you rely on all of you more than ever to keep me on track :)

Good morning and welcome fondak!   We are glad to have you join us...think most of us are experiencing the same things that you are....the AI bulge, aches and pains that are part of the se's, and I know what you mean about the low metabolism!  We have all been discouraged at times.  Its not easy at first to work in some regular exercise into your schedule but you will get encouragement all along the way from the ladies here.  Sometimes the hardest part is just losing those first few pounds....I know for myself I have had to work on some bad eating habits that I have developed over the years...especially in the area of emotional eating.  Its coming along....but I have to work on it everyday....have gotten some good tips and ideas from others here...I know you will too!

Good job on another week, kindergarten!  Are you excited to do the weigh-ins or do you approach it every week with trepidation?   Confession here....I still havent bought a scale! When I was going to the MO every 3 months, I would see my weight there.  I always took a big gulp before stepping on that blasted thing!   Now I don't go in but every 6 months.  I really need to get one.  I can tell that my jeans are fitting a bit better again and the other day in the grocery store, I saw a woman that I usually see at Christmas time down at work....we chatted and then she said..'You've lost weight'........music to my ears, my friend....mu-sic to my ears!!!!   Smile

Hi Tammy....how are you feeling this week?   I did have a nice time at the baby shower..and the cupcake was delicious!  Happy to say that I only ate 1...but I was tempted!   My sister had a lot of healthy things there too....we made our own subs, had lots of veggies, and fresh fruit.   It was a nice shower....my niece just seemed to have a glow about her....she is going to be a wonderful mom, you can just tell.   It was a nice day too.....I think we have had 6 months of weather in 1 week...everything from snow, sleet...and now its sunny and much milder both yesterday and today.  We may get the grill out.    Sorry to hear your friend is moving...its really nice to have someone to exercise with.....I met a fellow bc survivor and we have walked a few times together, but not on a real regular basis.....its amazing how far we would walk without realizing it as we were walking and talking.

Hi tenaj...........hope you are having a good weekend, have you had a busy week? Has your weather improved from the beginning of the week, like ours has..I know you were hoping for nice weather to ride bikes and walk.   Wishing you all a good Sunday!       jaytee

Pedometers - I carry one in my pocket every day.

I used to have this one: http://www.amazon.com/Omron-HJ-203-Pedometer-Activity-Tracker/dp/B003IHWKVY/ref=sr_1_40?ie=UTF8&qid=1362933405&sr=8-40&keywords=pedometer

    But I lost it.

We replaced it with one similar to this one:http://www.amazon.com/Ozeri-4x3motion-Pedometer-Tri-Axis-Technology/dp/B0042H69WU/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1362933372&sr=8-9&keywords=pedometer

I can't fine the exact one we replaced it with.

Both of these just go in your pocket or purse and you carry it around with you.

Hey all, sorry I've been out of touch, work is BUSY, I've been eating like crap, and not getting any exercise. So things are tough right now, I have to get refocused, but just can't seem to do it.

    Hugs to you all.

Hey Fondak, great to see you here. Welcome! You'll love these ladies and their encouragement!

I have eaten too much this weekend. I hurt my bad foot again by falling and twisting it. I have been unable to exercise, but tomorrow I am going to get back to my healthy eating. I pray that I haven't damaged my foot. It hurts quite a bit, and I will be seeing my doctor this week and will have it x-rayed. I am discouraged. I was getting along so well and now this setback. When I get discouraged, I eat! Not a good combination.

Hang in there Ladies. Together we will continue to lose weight as we encourage one another.

And if comfort food helped to ease the pain, so be it!!! You do not deserve all these setbacks!! Lots of Hugs!!!!!

Rocket, I am so sorry to hear about your setback :(

Food can be a great comforter......and sometimes we have to indulge a little......we just have to remember to get back on track.....

When I was having my radiation treatments I had an early morning timeslot and although I'd eaten breakfast I always felt really hungry afterwards...I wasn't sure whether I was actually hungry because my body needed extra nutrients or whether I just wanted a muffin to reward myself......Some days I really enjoyed that muffin!!!

    Best wishes to everyone

Good morning everyone!    Sounds like the weekend was challenging for many of us...I know I say it alot but its a new week...we can get a fresh start no matter what happened yesterday!   It takes practice to not listen to the discouraging voice in our head,  I am always working on that.

Rocket......oh, I am so sorry to hear that you hurt your foot again! Did you see the Dr yet?  Hopefully its not hurt too badly.  You have done so well with your eating....I think you probably deserved your splurge this weekend.    The eating out of discouragement is hard to overcome, isn't it?   I have been trying to think of some stategies I can do to overcome the emotional eating....some replacements for the food that after I have eaten it doesn't really ease whatever it is that upsets me.   I know I need to not get to the point of feeling starved....one little trigger when I am like that and anybody in the kitchen...watch out!    Here's to a better week for us all.

kindergarten, tenaj, Rocket, fondak,Tammy, cookiemonster, AteamNana....we are all in this together....Be encouraged...a setback or two does not knock us off the road!

Tammy....on my way to the baby shower this weekend I listened to a Cd my big sister got for me last year at the Irish festival.  We couldnt make it there last year.  A group called The Willis Clan....they are all teenagers, part of a family of 12 kids from Tennessee.  Amazing  music for such young performers---I was in celtic heaven in the car for 2 hours!   Here I had that cd for such a long time and had never really listened to it.   Sometimes we are sitting on hidden treasure and don't notice it!

love to you all and hugs all around!

Dear Jaytee, Love your always positive and encouraging posts!!!! I love Irish music, so uplifting and energetic. I had a little girl in Kindergarten one year, who did Irish dancing. She was amazing. Gosh, it is almost Wednesday, but I have been eating better since this weekend. Exercise today was the elyptical and riding bikes. I packed a healthy lunch, too. Drinking lots of water and green tea. Hugs to you all, hope your week is going great!!!!

Good for you kindergarten!  Your Friday will be a good one!!!   Loved watching my daughter Irish dance...its pretty demanding and the kids work so hard.  We didn't really realize going in how competetive it was though.  There is a feis season where the kids go to competitions and you have to place so high to move up in the levels.  Some of the kids thrived on it...others, it was quite nerve racking (my DD)......and expensive after awhile!  Now that DD is in college...kind of wish I had some of that money back that we spent on the dancing!   Have some good memories from it though.  I will still go to a website where people sell their used solo dresses just because I like to look at them!

Hi my friends & new friends! Sorry I've MIA...had a very busy time with work since Saturday. The good news is I always eat very well when I work because I'm too busy. I pack 4 cans of seltzer, organic yogurt with peaches, small piece of chicken cutlet, 1/2 red pepper & a cup of green tea. While I'm driving between patients I pick on my food all day. It's delicious & satisfying. It is working because the scale has moved a bit since last week. I need to keep this up while I'm off & not be the emotional eater!! All you ladies are fantastic & are doing such a great job. We all have days that we do better than others, we just have to try & do better the next day.

Sorry to hear about your setback Rocket. Did you go to the doctor? I hope your feeling better.

Jaytee, are you enjoying your DD company? I too love to cook for the kids when they come home. Both my kids are coming home in 2 weeks and we are celebrating my DD birthday. She again has asked for pot roast & potato dumplings. Hard to believe a whole year has gone by since we were talking about potato dumplings.

Kindergaten, you're perseverance, exercising & eating well is paying off, congratulations! It is motivational!

Hi CookieMonster! Don't be too hard on yourself. These ladies give wonderful advice & support. I think I remember that you work in a school, right? I remember when I was a school nurse how difficult it was to not be tempted to snack. There was always someone's birthday, calling out for lunch and for me my lunch lady who loved me.An adorable little Italian lady who insisted on feeding me! Too cute :-) Anyway.... We're hear for you :-)

    Have a great week everyone!

Tammy, don't feel bad. I was in such an emotional frenzy last night that I splurged on my beloved pizza! Today I am back on track. I can't wait until my ankle/foot is better so I can get back to serious exercise. I'll be away from home for the next 2 1/2 weeks moving my Mom to Maine from NC from one assisted living facility to another. I will see the doctor this Friday for my ankle. My PT, who saw it yesterday, thinks it is sprained. :-(. Not what I wanted to hear. I will just have to watch the eating since I won't get enough exercise.

I hope you all take good care and have great success this week!

    Love you guys!

Good morning!   Nice to see everyone today.  Rocket, hope you will have a good trip and that the transition from one place to another will be an easy one for your Mom.  Have you got a lot of help with the move?   Take care of yourself...and your foot!  Will be thinking of you.

tenaj...pot roast is on the menu here too!  Have one de-thawing as we speak.  I do remember those dumplings!!!  My DD is enjoying her time at home this week.  Unwinding a bit, but she did say that she likes having a set schedule to her day at school.  She is good about scheduling in time for exercise....she is already up this morning and working out to a video.   Its snowy out this morning which was a surprise to me...I walked yesterday in just my light jacket.  The weather needs to make up its mind!

Tammy....ice cream is one of my trigger foods...I have this little bowl that I use to have just a 'taste'...trouble is I will go back several times to get a little more.  Might as well have a regular bowl and be done with it!  One of the ice cream brands had a whoopie pie flavor last fall...it had a marshmellowy filling swirled all through it....it was seasonal, but I still walk by the ice cream case looking for it!  Smile   Have a good day today!

kindergarten.....hope you will have a wonderful day too...I will think of you out there in sunny Ca as I trudge out in the snow today!  Its not much and I can see that its already melted off the road.  When I got up, the roads were covered.  When will winter ever end!!!
