No chemo or radiation but I have still gained 15 pounds...

Hi all,

I had a really bad day today when someone told me I was getting fat.  She wasn't being malicious (just ignorant) but it still made me feel horrible.  Like I don't know that?  Anyway, I have gained about 10-15lbs (I was 165 when this started) since I had my bilateral mastectomy, lymph node dissection, and ovaries removed (all in the last year).  I thankfully didn't have to have any chemo or rads so I can't blame it on that.  I walk 5 miles at least 4 times a week and eat pretty well.  I'm just wondering who else out there is going through the same thing.  I'm especially wanting to hear from those who didn't have to have rads or chemo because I know those therapies bring on whole different scenarios.

Thanks, Kristi

hi Kristi, just found your post and wanted to reply although I did have chemo.

Surgeries and stress can cause weight gain, so can hormonal changes from ooph.

I've lost 32 pounds in the last three years and have ten more to go.  It's so hard!  Couldn't have done it without the support of the ladies on the Let's Post our Daily Exercise thread, and E-LAB (eating like a bird).  You're welcome to join us!  We come in all shapes, sizes, and fitness levels.

Hope you get a few more responses.  Good luck!

    Hi Kristi.

I also had bilateral mastectomy and did not have chemo or rads. Just curious if you are on Tamoxifen or another hormonal as these can cause weight loss/gain. I have cut out most processed foods so I have lost about 10 lbs but am exercising 3x per week to try to lose a few more.

Hope your day gets better and sending gentle hugs......
