Radiation following BMX with immediate implant reconstruction

Starting RADS next week....I had a BMX with immediate reconstruction with permanent implants on 12/12/12.

I was wondering how rads will effect the implant and also  the effect of rads on a very fair thinned skinned 63 yr old.....

    Hi Pugi.  I know nothing about your situation but I do know how discouraging it is to make a post and not get one single response.  This cancer crap gets to me and I feel lonely.

    Hi Pugi

    I am fair skinned, thin skinned and 62. I started Rads on 1/31 and have only 8 left. My skin is broken down under my arm, a bit on my chest, and on my nipple. I have been using Calendula during the day and Aquafor at night. I just added in Silvedene on the broken down skin. I think I should have been drinking more water and I would suggest that. I had a lumpectomy, so do not have a reconstruction. Good luck, let me know how u r doing!

    Hi czpugi,

    I started radiation about a week before you after having silicon implants placed on January 7.  My PS indicated that they have found less complications when they do radiation after the implants are placed as opposed to before.  I've got some skin issues, and do notice some tightening/rippling, but nothing that looks like a failure in the making.

    My PS is doing the exchange surgery before Rads for me. I am a bit nervous about it, but I trust him. He said that Rad wont harm the implant. He said sometimes it takes time for the skin to tighten so there is no perfect time to exchange. He said we dont have a crystal ball to know when your skin will be done tightening. He said if something happens we will just go in and do a revision surgery. I hope he is right. I have 3 more Chemo sessions to go then the exchange 4 weeks after the last chemo, end on June, so I am thinking I will be starting Rads end of July. I took a leave of absent from my job during chemo, but was hoping to go back to work during the Rads.............
