Saving second base....REALLY??
Ok, I know lots of people have jumped on the "save the tatas" and "save second base" bandwagon, but these sayings drive me crazy!
I was at my daughter's softball parent meeting last night and the coach mentioned doing a game/fundraiser for BC (one of the staff members at school is recently diagnosed.) One of the Dads got all excited about the idea and wanted to make "Save Second Base" tee shirts, paint second base pink, etc. I get so offended by men wanting to save second base. What...so they have something to play with??? What about saving women's LIVES, not their breasts. It just seems so selfish and self serving when men say this. UGH! It's also a terrible example to our high school aged daughters that their breasts are more important than their health. I know this dad meant well, but it still ticks me off.
(Sorry for the rant! OK, now I'm going to get on with my day....clearly need coffee.)

I am a husband /caregiver and father of 2 young girls.
I realize people deal with crises in different ways----but I find this type of stuff grossly insensitive to the gravity of a situation that is NOT about breasts being in jeopardy so much as it is about LIVES being in jeopardy. Lives of the patients mostly, but also all the collateral damage to lives around the directly
affected individual.
Painting the central issue of breast cancer as potential loss of what shallowly pleases a man about a woman's torso is sick, IMHO.
Unfortunately, a woman with breast cancer COULD save her breasts----and die from the same breast cancer.
Would the people who want to paint 2nd Base pink think that's a victory?
There's such ignorance with this disease/ these diseases. -
I have three boys, but find the sexual innuendo of "saving second base" offensive to the young girls playing softball! I think the Dad that suggested it is an idiot. Imaging having to explain to these girls the meaning of "second base"? Really, really dumb idea.

Totally offensive, insensitive and inappropriate, will only encourage sexist ideas and the idea that breasts are sexual playthings........and nothing more......boycott it!

Totally offensive! Also is that dad sure he wants his daughter labeling her boobs second base??

I think this is the most offensive "fund raising" motto I have ever heard. What was he thinking! I wonder what his wife thinks.
