Recurrence
I am 2 years out after having bilateral mastectomy and reconstruction with silicone implants. Last week I noticed a small lump the size of a bb in the breast which I had 3 tumors. I can't tell if it is in the pectoral muscle or just beneath the skin. I did not have lymph node involvement nor did I undergo chemo or radiation. Has anyone had a similar experience?

Hi...
I recently had a BMX, with silicone inplants placed. I was diagnosed in June 2012, chemo, no lymphnodes involved. I have had small bump, which I had biopsies and found out it was just a fatty lipoma. I have another one as well. It is scary after all we went through to have this pop up....I would have it checked as it always the best route to have everything ruled out for peace of mind....I also was multifocal, so that scared me too.
What stage are you? PM me if you have any questions.....
Best wishes for a good outcome,...

I hope it's nothing! Are you on Tamox or an Al?
-
Was on tamoxifen for first 2 years, just last month switched to Femara. I tend to be a bit paranoid about everything these days, feel like the doctors probably think I'm nuts.
-
What is multi focal? I was stage 2 I guess because there were multiple tumors, but with no lymph node involvement which I thought was a real positive.

I pulled out my pathology report which stated that my tumors were multicentric, I had forgotten that, I guess. I am going to the dr. On friday
-
Is it near the scar? My BS told me recurrence would look like bug bites that wouldnt go away near the surgical site.
-
Had the biopsy last wek, it is a recurrence! See the surgeon on Thursday. Anyone have thoughts on this? I was estrogen receptor positive grade 1, the cancer that shouldn't come back
-
Well that bites! Sorry. What are the plans?
-
I see the surgeon on Thursday, so will know more after that. I am worried that it could be in other places/organs as well. I hope they want to do a pet scan.
-
Rdhnow sorry you have to do this again. Just curious why didnt they have you do chemo or rads? I am Stage 2(micromet in the SN) and Grade 1. I had a lumpectomy followed by 33 Rads treatments and currently taking tamoxifen. Was on Arimidex initially but ONC switched me because of osteoporsis. I hope they do a pet scan too. Dont assume its everywhere else but of course we all get the fear factor. Letlet...that's interesting about the bug bites. I will be looking for those from now on. Rdhnow try not to worry and let us know; we are praying for you. Diane

They didn't do rads or chemo because they felt they got it all with the mastectomy. I hate to say it, but I am hoping they will follow this surgery up with something more.
-
Rdhnow..oh okay. They didnt recommend chemo or rads for my sister either. She had a MX.
-
I am going tomorrow for blood work, bone scan and ct scan and meet with the surgeon, guess ill learn more tomorrow.
-
letlet,
I was told that too.

Rdhnow....since I read this I have been thinking about you and praying for you. I too had a bilateral mastectomy with DIEP Flap reconstruction....no implants.....last October 2012. No lymph node involvement and no radiation since the breast tissue had been removed. My Onco wanted me to do 4 rounds of chemo but I was so sick and weak from a lung surgery to remove a nodule (non-cancerous) that she felt my body could not handle any side effects I might have. My Onco-type came in at 18 and my BC was estrogen positive so I am taking Tamoxifen. Recurrence is a fear of mine....and I am sure for many others as well. I am a big advocate on knowing your own body and I believe it still holds true even though our bodies have changed. I wish you well and pray this recurrence can be taken care of quickly and completely.

Thank you so much for your kind words. I had the lump removed last week, will follow with chemo and radiation. I am scared, but trying to remain positive.

Only one way to know for sure. Have your surgeon take a look. Probably nothing but best to be sure.
