Hi all, I was on here looking up info for my younger sister who was just diagnosed a few months back with stage IIIc IDC.  She is triple negative and not responding well to chemo to shrink her tumor and nodes before surgery.  This is such a great site.  I found that the third cocktail they are going to start next week has a good track record for triple negative girls.  Please send out some positive thoughts for her :)

I just had my 3 year testing and everything is good Yay!  I was thinking of all of you and hoping you are all doing well also.  I did the race for the cure in May with my daughter for the third year in a row on mother's day.  I'm inspired by you Steph winning the survivor's category--congratulations!!!  Maybe my daughter will let me run ahead of her next year so I can give it a go also.  My reconstruction healed up eventually with a little defect.  Just had a revision on it last week so now I'm back to stitches, but I'm sure it will heal better this time.

    Good Heath to All!

Hi y'all....ltns! I've been busy beading, and just wanted to let y'all know that I've been re-diagnosed with breast cancer of the bones...stage 4...I won't know for another couple of months where the cancer's at, because I just started taking Arimidex aka anastrozole...haven't really had se's, but I sure would like to know how it's working...I took a round of Zometa, and I'll be heading back to the village tomorrow...I'm so ready to get back to the village, but just wanted to stop by and say hi!

Oh crap Sharon!!  I'm  so sorry to hear this.  I hope the Armidex kills the bastard!  Glad to hear you've had no side effects.  I'll be thinking of you.  Enjoy your time in the village.  So good to hear from an old friend! ♥

Sharon, that just sucks! Hopefully the combo of anastrazole and Zometa will keep it at bay for years. I've been on Arimidex and then the generic anastrazole for almost four years now. As a Stage III-er, they have given me everything they had from the beginning.

My side effects are hard to distinguish from some normal aging occurances. We all have aches and pains as we get older. The Arimidex just brings them on a tad earlier. That's the only one I can say I've had long term.

Good luck with you treatment plan, and again, I'm sorry to hear of your recurrance.

    NancyD,

May I ask how long you took AI? If you have completed 5 yrs or more, what did you do to minimize SE?

    Thank you in advance.

Castigame, I have taken anastrazole for nine years as of this past September. My MO has not mentioned when I will stop—if ever. My SEs are minimal, and are hard to distinguish from normal aging aches and pains. I have arthritis in my hips that I think is exacerbated by the AI, but a few ibuprofen tabs take care of the worst of it. I have never taken a break to see if the pain would go away, just accepted that as a Stage 3-er this was my lot in life, if I wanted to have life. Maybe after ten years (next Fall), I'll ask my MO about taking a break.

Just wanted to add that I have a fear about stopping the anastrozole. What if I still have my aches and pains—then they were not caused by the AI. And what if while I am off the AI, my BC returns in another part of my body? Then the cessation of the AI would be for nothing and the worst happened. A couple of Ibuprofen every now and then isn't such a bad trade off.
