Any recommendations for a medical oncologist at the BC Cancer Agency's Vancouver Centre? Thanks!

(I also posted this question in the "Canadians in British Columbia" thread. Sorry for the duplication but I wanted to cover both bases.)

I have Dr. Villa, but there are a few others there too. I think they will give you the choice,I just went with the one that was quickest, but I have seen Dr. Simmons (female) shes really nice and Dr. Gelmon, I've talked to on the phone. Right now I'm having an issue with my mo, as you could see in my other posts.. Let me know who you get..

My MO is Sophie Sun and I love her! She lets me feel involved in any decisions being made. And even though the second opinion concept is not as available here as in the US I know that she consults with others at the BCCA and they do a lot conferencing with each other.

In general I think the docs are pretty top notch at the Vancouver Centre and you would like get similar treatment from anyone.

Anamerty - thanks. I can see you're having issues ... jeez, sure hope it gets sorted out and isn't mets! Along with copies of your scans, do you get copies of your appointment notes? It would be interesting to see what your MO wrote about it.

Other people have recommended Dr. Gelmon and Dr. Simmons, as well as Dr. Shenkier (also female). I don't know the process for switching MOs and fortunately don't need to see mine for a while. I'm going to talk to my GP about it when I see her next. I'll let you know what I do.

    Hang in there.

sheryls - sorry I didn't see your message before I posted mine. Appreciate your response. And I'm so glad you have a great relationship with your MO. Best wishes.

@Lou: I went to see my rad onco last week to get another opinion(don't know if its officially called 2nd opinion). She Dr. Weir, is so nice and kind and because I had been treated with rads 14 years ago from her, I have always had her as my rad. onco. She's the one who found my new cancer, even when the mammo I had an hour before, showed nothing. She right away set up a us and core biopsy together to find out faster. As I am a BRCA1 carrier and VERY high breast cancer in immediate family the BCCA takes care of us, and I have never had any tests anywhere else in 14 years, I was also followed every year with MRI's because of the risk.If I hadn't have had the cancer agency checking me, this second cancer may not have been detected for a long long time.Anyways since my 2nd cancer was triple negative I had a double mastectomy and only chemo, no rads, so I thought all my years with my beloved Dr. Weir were over. But I ran into her the day of my bone scan, and she said I could see her anytime, so I did. When I went in to see her she went through everything with me and even showed me both of the ct scans. She asked if I just wanted to come to see her because I could, and as she said we've know each other for many years. I said yes of course, Even though I don't get rads she said because I don't have chemo anymore, that it is fine to come back yippee!!!

I love hearing good stuff about Dr. Weir. She is my rad onc. I have only met her once so far at my initial consult but I should be getting radiation started in another couple weeks. The first meeting was good though and she seemed very nice.
