cramping pain in breast 3 years after rads

Just wondering if anyone else has had this same type of pain. It's been 3 years since my lumpectomy and radiation, and I am still having off and on pain. The best way to describe it is a severe cramp. It comes on suddenly, and is a "take your breath away" type of pain. It stops me in my tracks, and after about 10-20 seconds, it usually goes away. Some days it happens several times, and some days it doesn't happen at all. This has probably been going on for a year to a year and a half. I asked my oncologist, and he didn't have a clue. I just don't see how this can be a coincidence, and I am wondering if it's damage or what.

We were diagnosed at about the same time and it'll be 3 years this spring since I had rads. I'm sorry that you are having these pains, I do remember having what I can best describe as "jolts" on pain that took my breath away, too, and was told that it was nerves healing after both the trauma of the lumpectomy and the rads. I do not know if these are what you are feeling, but they occurred and stopped years ago (probably after about 6 months of no treatment). Three years is an awfully long time to be experiencing any sort of pain, I would seek a second opinion because you should not be in pain.

I just asked my MO about these same exact sharp pains. He said it happened to some women and he couldn't predict when it would eventually go away.....I'm only 14 months or so out from rads and it's discouraging to hear it might last for years.

I get the pains too, but they seem to be happening less frequently as time passes (now at one year post rads).
