I think it is interesting that nothing has posted on this forum for so long. I did 28 radiation treatments and I am done. I will be the experiment for someone with my diagnosis to go without chemo or herceptin. I always felt like a pioneer. I think ultimately we have to live with what we have decided to do with and to our bodies, and I am content with my decision. I wish all of you well.

Haven't been here for awhile. Stopped in wondering about greylady and thrilled to read her post. Also...hello to Alaska Angel!

I don't think about cancer much anymore. The dx seems like a long time ago. I don't worry about a recurrence, but do the 3 month checkups for bloodwork and yearly mammo. It feels so good to be done with all the doctor appointment.

Greylady, my treatment didn't go so well...or herceptin treatment. I had to stop July 2nd due to low EF. My heart isn't quite back to what it was but hopefully in a year it will be. I understand why you would tire of doctor appts but the blood workup is important. From what I understand it's only once every three months, and after a year twice a year, and then maybe once a year until the five year mark.

    Hi Eve and Grey Lady!

With the continuing failure to document the effects of various treatments independent of each other like chemo and trastuzumab (including separating out the effects of the support drugs), it is really, really difficult for those who are less likely to recur to accurately analyze risk on a personal basis. I'm glad you too have developed your own sense of comfort in dealing with your situation.

I saw my breast surgeon last fall. He recommended alternating q 12 month MRI and q 12 month mammo (doing one or the other every 6 months). I had skipped imaging entirely the previous year, after having yearly mammos for the 8 prior years, because the rads necrosis has become so painful and stiff that it is hard to compress the breast adequately. I had bilateral mammos this year, which were clear, and all labs were excellent. I do think that my bc at least is tied strongly to metabolic issues, so I just stick to diet and exercise and avoidance of cancer-causing food and drink....
