Hi, Finished chemo in 4/2012 and started tamoxifen 7/2012.  Herceptin finished 1/2013.  I have noticed a large amount of petechiae on both lower legs for about a month.  Platelet count on november was normal.  Has anyone else developed this symptom?

My upper abdomen was covered with tiny cherry angiomas when I had big pressure in my belly when I had ascites. Did they look like this?

    https://www.google.com/search?q=tiny+cherry+angiomas&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en&client=safari#biv=i|0;d|FwS-cNc5O4BEzM:

Mine faded after my surgery. Evidently some drugs (chemo?) can cause them.

    Cherry Angioma Causes

There is little known about the factors which add to the formations of a cherry angloma. In extremely rare occasions, they can be caused because of the existence of a developing internal malignancy.

Several reports have described the look of many small red lesions as histologically resembling the lesions in individuals with malignancies, but most of these lesions occur in healthy individuals. There is also the belief that these lesions are caused by genetic malfunctioning.

Many times mustard gas, bromides, 2-butoxyethanol as well as cyclosporine containing chemical compounds are believed to cause cherry angioma.

Stress may also be a contributing factor in the cause of cherry angiomas. It has been proven that any type of continuing stress can cause an individual to age faster and older age is one of the main factors which eventually lead to the development of cherry angiomas.

Wow - I had no idea cherry angiomas could be associated with internal malignancy.  Or be caused by chemo.  I've had one for years, just one.

Last spring or summer, I got a patch of petechiae on my leg after scratching an itchy spot.  I went back over my platelet results for the past several MO visits and found my platelet results had been dropping and were not much above the lower threshold for normal levels.  Apparently you can develop petechiae with low-normal platelet levels.

No Herceptin for me, but I was taking daily low-dose aspirin, recommended by my MO for recurrence prevention. I stopped the aspirin and started taking sesame oil, recommended by my naturopath to improve platelet levels.  No more petechiae and my platelet level was higher on my next MO visit.  I've resumed low-dose aspirin but only 3 times a week.  I don't know if the sesame oil helped any, but I'm still adding it to my morning smoothie.

I did have internal cancer-ovarian. I had also forgotten I had some on my thighs too. When I say they faded, they didn't completely go away but they lost the bright red appearance & look like little pinpoint moles or freckles. They are darker. My labs at the time were all messed up but I can't remember specifics on that.

hmm, I have these too on my lower abdomen and upper thighs. I never really knew what they were and a bit embarrased to ask about them.  Did you discuss them with your doctor? what did they say?

I've had them for years.  Stress related?  That fits when they first appeared.  Since chemo I've gotten quite a few more.  All are on my torso, neck and face.  Some oddly in pairs.  None of my drs have remarked about them and all have certainly had a chance to see them with how many times I've been topless in the last year and a half!

I've been taking Tamoxifen for about six months and just developed petechaie on my lower legs also.  I've had it about a week now.

My story of petechiae is different.  I ended up getting many little spots of it on my treatment side breast.  I noticed a few some months after treatment finished, but they really came out when I had to get squished for the follow-up mammos.  My one breast could not take that pressure.  I attribute mine to rads, since both sides do get squished  for mammos (although the treatment side got more) and only my BC side got the petechiae.  Yes, I did take Tamoxifen, but if that created my problem, then I'd have petechiae on both sides.  I don't have mine on legs or elsewhere.

BTW, I had a laser procedure to try and disappear mine.  I think it was IPL.  That worked o.k. and got rid of most of them, but then I had one mammo since having that and the squishing did create some new ones.  I might get the treatment again, if I feel it is looking too unsightly again.  (Bad enough being scarred up.  It makes me a little upset to have yet another reminder.)

Did anyone get any answers in regards to the petechiae. I have had them on my lower legs for a few months. I don't see MO again until May. They seem worse when I run, which is something I enjoy. Not even sure who I'd call... MO, dermatologist, or family doc

I have some Petechiae now. Monday late afternoon they seemed to rather suddenly appear primarily on my left arm. True to description they are red/purple, flat, do not itch, are not irritated.

I just completed my 4th of 12 Taxol chemo treatment w/ Herceptin. I get a steroid and Benadryl premeds at the clicic immediately before the chemo starts.

Dr has not prescribed Decadron 4 mg a steroid for me to take for the next four days.

While I do have a few spots on my right arm most of them are on my left arm. My mastectomy and 1 sentinel node were on my left side. Can Petechiae relate to lymphedema in any way? I do not have any systems for lymphedema now.

    Always something isn't it?

It could be that your platelets are low. If you take aspirin and/or tumeric, they can contribute as well. I get them on my arms after heavy lifting sometimes. Very annoying. Do ask about it when you see your MO again.
