I am new to the world of breast cancer (a week tomorrow it will be a week since I found out). I was wondering if there is any programs out there to help with added expenses we will have to pay due to me having cancer. Example ..will probably need nanny or some form of daycare during time of surgery, chemo, etc.. I can not see my self able to look after my 4 young kids with the side effect of chemo. My husband does work and I was self employed selling Epicure Selections products at home parties until now. But now that I will not be able to work and we were living paycheck to pay check, inches away from going bankrupt, I would like to find out if there are any programs in Ontario so that we can cover the costs we have to pay due to cancer and not lose everything. If anyone know of any problems that could help please let me know so I can look into them more for help.

CourticeMommy, the Canadian Cancer Society website has a Community Services Locator that helps track down some of the benefits that may be available to you. You may also want to ask at your doctor's office, your hospital's social worker, or your local CCAC (Community Care Access Centre).

    Best wishes

Hi there, I am so sorry you are having a rough time of it.  When I underwent cancer treatment at Sunnybrook in Toronto, I noticed brochures for free nanny services for mothers undergoing treatment.  I don't have kids so I didn't pick up the brochure but there are service like this available.  Make sure you contact Willow or another breast cancer support group in your area.  Also, there is the Kelly Shire program.  They are able to help you out if you are going through financial trouble and will help you to pay bills.  I don't have their info but google Kelly Shire program in Canada and I'm sure you will be able to find something.  Good luck and God Bless.

I just finished filling out my mom's forms for the Kelly Shires Foundation today. Here is their website. They were recommended by the social worker at the oncology clinic in Etobicoke.
