Turmeric
Hi I'm wondering what everyone's opinions on Turmeric is. My mom had breast cancer years ago, and we just discovered it is now in her bones. I've been reading some articles about it online, but want to get some personal opinions. Also are there vitamins of turmeric, or is it best to use it in food? Thank you so much!

I take it per my naturopath's suggestion via
Capsules. It's also called curcumin. Although I was Only stage 2 I'm using it to fight recurrence because I'm high risk. -
I also take it. I find it helps with the pain and inflammation associated with bone mets. You can get a much more concentrated dose in a capsule than you could ever put in your food.
-
If you get some, make sure the capsules also contain pepperine, a pepper derivative. The pepperine make the tumeric work better. I take Doctors Best curcumin with Bioperine.
(I'm sure there's some better technical explaination, but right now, my brain is on slow motion.)

Hi Judette! I take Turmeric spice and two other things for my stage IIB breast cancer. I also take very highy concentrated broccoli sprouts and raw cannabis. I do not do chemo, surgery, or radiation. I take 3 capsules of Turmeric spice a day. Same with the broccoli sprouts. The cannabis, I take every 3 hours all day. I also take the cannabis oil only before bedtime because it lets me sleep all night without waking up once. I love, love, this!!! Just wondering if anyone else has tried any of these. I would love to correspond with some ladies that do all or one of these treatment. God Bless, Joeybirdie

Hi...I just got a newsletter from Sloan Kettering cancer center's integrative health department...it had good things to say about Turmeric (aka Cucurmurin), which I had been taking for a few years to deal with aches and pains caused by sudden "chemopause" and Tamoxifen. I actually first found out about it on this site!
Unfortunately, I have to stop taking it now bc I am taking Doxorubicin (Doxil) for my mets, and the same article said Cucurmurin can render Doxil ineffective. Sigh. My doc knew I was taking the turmeric...hope 1 didn't just waste a month of chemo due to ignorance!
Sorry for the digression, but u should definitely do a search on the entire site (ie not just comp. med. forum) for Zyflamend. Also google memorial Sloan Kettering Integrative Medicine and turmeric and you can probably find the newsletter I mentioned. Good luck! -
I take something called Can-Arrest as prescribed through my Naturopath. It contains curcumin.
-
I take 1000 mg of Curcumin Phytosome each day.
-
I take it by capsule and also with my food. We have a mixture of 1/3 parts each of turmeric, garlic powder and black pepper. I use it liberally on soups, veggies, meats etc.
-
You can buy tumeric in capsule form in any health food store.
I found this book to be very helpful. Breast Cancer 50 essential things You Can Do. By Greg Anderson. Probably can request from your local library. Tumeric is highly suggested.

Tumeric is an antioxidant and my oncologist said don't take any antioxidants while on chemo and ther ehave been published articles on that.
-
Also, possible interactions with chemo should be kept in mind. During chemo it might be necessary to give up on supplements because you risk either getting toxicity or too low effect. Given up on antioxidants however I don't fully understand. There are antioxidants in food right. Should we consume junk food alone during chemo?

Good question. I take curcumin based on a recommendation from my cancer center. MD Anderson posted clinical trial results in their complimentary medicine section. It was the fact that it was tested that surprised me. Interesting reading on the testing of curcumin and mushrooms.
My MO is OK with this and my progress is positive currently. Hard to make decisions based on so much conflicting information but I am comfortable with taking it. Research, reasonable assumptions and gut feeling is the best I can do when deciding. -
Turmeric is part of my "arsenal" as well. I didn't feel like I had enough information about some of the supplements I took during chemo, so I paused 2 days prior to chemo and one week ahead.
Broccoli sprouts is of course one of a 1000 great things that are also impossible to find in Denmark... How many grams broccoli sprouts should be taken daily? -
I took 1500 grams a day of broccoli sprouts during my cancer treatments. It's like eating 1 1/2 lbs. of broccoli. I also took 1500 grams a day of the turmeric. Also six capsules of raw cannabis. It did the trick!! No mastectomy, no chemo, and no radiation.
-
Turmeric is also a blood thinner, so be careful.
-
tomatos??? is that some sort of strange foreign fruit?
Joeybirdie that's impressive! did you take the broccoli sprouts as capsules? -
@ New Direction....Yes I took all of my treatments in capsule form. It was so easy!!
-
Thanks for this thread. I started taking tumeric capsules yesterday.
-
I'm taking turmeric capsules and am going to up my level to approximately 3.6 grams a day (5 capsules). Thanks to Joeybirdie's reports, I am adding broccoli sprouts tabs. I do *many* other supplements and also take cannabis oil in an open cap (I use half of a gel cap - so it's open and is absorbed faster) only at night. I will be eating raw leaf again in juiced drinks very soon (I did this last summer) and, again, thanks to Joeybirdie's idea, will be also putting raw leaf in caps. Brilliant! Raw leaf does not get you high, and that's a good thing especially during the day.
I am new here and so happy to have found this forum. Health and happiness to all....
