Dakota...I'm a veteran hockeymom too. My son was a goalie, so his equipment was really costly, and lord knows, NOTHING seemed to cancel a practice or a game. The older he got, the later or the earlier his practices got too. A shortage of icetime meant we were driving all over the countryside to get to rinks sometimes. You deserve a medal for what you do for your kids.

Edi...my daughter was a premmie too. (Adopted) but mine none the less. She was born at 28 weeks, and weighed 1.5 lbs. We were able to take her home at about 3 months...she had just made it to 5 lbs. There were tons of worries about how she might develop, but today she is taller than me, gorgeous, and getting on with life. She does suffer from depression though, which is so hard to watch her have to deal with. But like your GD, premmies are born fighters.

Boy, I'm tired today, but the sun is shining, so a good outside walk should recharge my batteries. Hope all have a good day.

Scottiee, don't think you will have a problem pub wise where you come from. The scots still know how to have a good time Laughing.
Organic pretty easy to get here, bit more expensive than ordinary stuff but not that much.
Only problem is eating out, sure if you google there will be organic restaurants.
Lots of students there and they all seem to prefer the healthier options.
Just did a quick google and there are five in the middle of glasgow>
Hope i have right city ?

GD and her mum not long left, what a tonic. DH fast asleep on the sofa now might just give it some ZZZZZ myself. Get the energy up for the rest of the day.

Nihahi, you must have posted as I was typing. Premmies defo little fighters.
    Enjoy your walk.

Dakota, your are definitely Super Mom, so glad mine werent sporty lol.
Hope schools not closed tomorrow. it causes such headaches for you working Mum's.

Liefie, that was a lovely story about your DH's birthday party - it's wonderful that you have each other!

Edi, sorry to hear about your mouth woes, but so glad that you were able to get something to bring relief!

Traii, glad you enjoyed your arvo with friends - so important to have their support.

Good that you're digging out from that snowstorm Dakota! My brother, in town on business, was stranded here until this afternoon since he couldn't get back to Nova Scotia. So, he came out and stayed with us, which was a nice surprise.

Have to say the last two days have not been fun, but all things considered, think I'm doing fairly well. Have had my own personal introduction to the "ring of fire" and periodic queasiness, but only very minimal bone pain. My DH continues to be a very attentive nurse, and friends have stopped by to visit and bring food, so that helps.

Hope you are all doing well!

Thanks everybody for the kind words re DH. I told him what you ladies said about this, and he just looked at me sheepishly with an embarrassed little smile as if he had been caught red-handedly at doing something weird. Funny.

Nihahi, let's say no more about those oysters . . . Enjoy your walk!

Dakota, you sound like a wonderful mom. Your kids are so lucky to have you. Hockey moms certainly deserve medals for perseverance. I have friends whose sons play competitive hockey, and those people seem to be traveling every weekend. It is a huge commitment on all fronts.

Edi, that fox story is just terrible. I can't imagine what must have gone through the mind of that mother.

Caitlin, glad you are doing relatively well. Your DH sounds wonderful, and the food that gets dropped off really helps a lot. People want to help, and that's an excellent way of showing support. Best wishes!

Having a quiet day here. Will walk the dog later, but being very lazy.

Liefie, bet you don't get to see your DH blushing often with embarressment ! lol It's good to have lazy days Liefie :) Hope you enjoyed your walk with the dog. Thinking of going for a walk later tonight after dinner to the lake to feed the ducks with my DS and DH.....then a play in the park :)

Caitlin, welcome to the 'ring of fire' club....lol ( well shouldn't laugh but its stuff we talk about here because we all have managed to get it one day or another !) unfortunately mine went away and then ba-boom....its back! Sounds like you are going well which is great to hear :)

Nihahi, glad the sun is shining where you are, see I did share the sun and sent some over to you, now to get some to Dakota to melt that snow she seems to be getting stuck in.

Dakota, did you end up going to work today or were the roads too bad to get out ? Hope whatever you did was relaxing (even if that is being at work...lol) .

Ok time to start cooking dinner. Creamy, French Onion Potatoes/ Carrots / Cauliflower and Pumpkin today with Chicken Schnitzel with mushroom gravy sauce!!

Traii, Sorry R.O.F backCry weirdly enough that's the same as me this week, usually Thursday for me after IV then maybe Friday morning. This time Thursday, Friday fine then Saturday THAT again and the flippin mouth infection too !! Was in the loo crying more than I have ever done since all this started and DH was outside the door in bits too.Lets face it there is nothing anyone can do to help when this happens. Then I read what dear Benny is going through and think for heavens sake woman get a grip.
As she says this too will pass ( literally ).
Hope your walk in the park was fun. When GD came yesterday avo she had been to the park with her Mum and bless her was soaked. Mum dried her and changed her jeggings and she was fine.

Bennymuffins,  Boy! Do I know how you feel!! It's been 10 days for me and the shock hasn't stopped yet!! I have that exact sensation of being in a nighmare or a bad movie!

Terrifying!  I understand how you feel being a vegetarian and "get cancer anyway." Boy, do I ever!  I stopped smoking 15 yrs ago, and stopped drinking 20 years ago, and by that I mean, not even a drop of wine, and not even one puff!  Got cancer, anyway!!   I emphasized to my "cancer team" that I want surgery FAST. I'm losing weight every day due to the fear, and I didn't have pounds to spare. I'm healthy (and I WAS happy) and I've always been very slim. Never sick a day in my life!  My big concern right now is the the MRI one of my doctors wants may delay my surgery!! It seems MRIs pick up about everything, and I don't have time for biopsies on the right when the left has cancer that they have said needs a mastectomy. The doctor who wants the test, the radiologist, said there is only a 4% chance that my right breast has cancer in it at this time, so I don't understand why we are doing it. I need, for the sake of my sanity and my general health to have this surgery in the next few weeks. I have read so many of you nice (and very informed) women's opinions, thoughts and fears, and I've learned alot and found some comfort, as I hurt for each and one of you.  Thanks for being here!

Dear 46andsingle, I'm so sorry you find yourself in this situation, but we are here for you, and will support you through this, no matter what. Your tumour is relatively small at 2 cm, and will not grow that fast. It they find ca in the other breast too, you can have all the surgery done at the same time. I know that feeling that you just want it out of your body - totally understandable! From the time my ob/gyn felt the lump in my breast until I had the mastectomy, it was nine weeks. Most tumours actually take years to grow, so a few weeks won't make any difference. Don't worry so much. I heard a good saying on these boards: Don't go there until you get there. Good advice so you don't waste that precious energy on worry which won't change a thing anyway. Keep busy, and eat more. Big hugs to you!

Edi, so sorry you and the loo are so tight again, Traii too. Hopefully it will be over soon. Oh man, not nice at all. I just hate it when you guys suffer.

46and single, Glad you found us. The shock is beyond belief as we all know, just breath deep and hang on in there.
Now you are at the start, it has been found and will be removed, then the rest of your treatment will start.
My surgeon went on his holidays and in my head I was screaming for God's sake man I will be worse by the time you come back ! Of course that doesn't happen, but you can't believe how slowly things seem to go.
I was diagnosed about a month before the op and had convinced myself that it had spread everywhere by then. Again lots of us do that, so many things we all go through.
You keep on here, the Warrior sisters will hold you safe and help calm your terror.
Read back if you can and you will see there IS light at the end of the tunnel you are in now.
Which country are you from ? That doesn't matter by the way but our girls are from many countries and may be able to give you relevant links etc.
huge cyber ((( HUG ))) to you,
Please post back when you can.

    Hello Again from Western Australia!

46andsingle  xXx I'm feeling for you xXx it's just SO overwhelming.. and UNFAIR!!!  I was beside myself and desperate to get things moving along.  I cried and cried and couldn't imagine ever getting my head around it.  Especially during the time before surgery.  I felt like a time bomb!  I had the MRI - which gave surgeon a much clearer view of everything.. and surgery 6 weeks after diagnosis.  Once surgery was over and treatment plan in place I did finally get some peace.  This thread did help me somewhat.. it's so much better than reading a pamphlet - we are all going through this together.. like an ARMY of Warrior Sisters.  Stay with us mate..  Big Big Loves to you at this time.

and Liefie..  I have just stopped crying from reading your post about the party.  That is SO gorgeous!  I am lovin your hubby.  Lucky you... and lucky him XXX

I have just got thru last chemo..  one more to go (Feb 21)..  WOOHOO!  My daughter and I are gonna take a bottle of non alcoholic champagne in with us and celebrate while I'm in the comfy chair.  hehehe!   and my Best Friend is flying over from the East to hang out with me thru the effects of that and celebrate some more when I'm thru it!!   Rads start March 19.  Then 6 weeks later - BIG CELEBRATION!!!  Gee, what to do after 5 years on Tamoxifen..  I'll keep you all posted.

Love to you all - gonna try find you lot on Facebook XXX

46and single, We have all been through where you are now hun, the unknown is always the worst part of this 'journey' !

I'm glad you have found us.....stay strong, until you have a plan in place then you can feel peace with all this and soldier on like we have. I see you are grade 2 I am grade 3 and my onc and breast surgeon said that it could have been there for 7plus years before I actually felt it...and mine was 1.6cms. Hang in there it will all come together soon enough.

Edi you make me bloody laugh....this too shall pass (literally) .... oh yes it sure will pass....lol you are too funny honey!

Hope your dancing and singing like no body is watching and pumping that music up full blast doing your thing girl.....(get a hair brush and sing in that ... I found that worked a treat in the mirror when I was a little girl...lol now DS has a microphone and electric guitar with an amplifier that my parents brought him...I find myself using it more than him...lol)

Bevlee, how exciting last one next Thursday whoo hoo...I'll drink up with you !  (ok ok, if you insist NON- Alco bevvy!) lol     How many treatments did you have ??

Hope you are all doing ok. xx

Hi Ladies, just back from a yoga class and now "defrosting the peas".

Bevlee...such wonderful news on your timeline...you're getting through this girl! Don't forget some quality chocolate to go with that champagne!

46.....We're all hanging out behind you, we're there for you. As Edi and others have said, we are from all over the globe. I'm often on in the wee hours of the morning, (I live in Alberta, Canada) and often find someone on the thread to connect to. Don't know how far back you may have read, but I am 20+ years out from my diagnosis, surgery and treatment. There have been HUGE strides in survival success and support services in that time. I completely understand how at the moment it seems like every tick of the clock without some kind of action, is a waste of what time you may have left, but you are about to find out that you have some pretty amazing people to connect to, some journeys to take, and a whole lot of living yet to do. Do not waste an ounce of energy on regrets or "what ifs". There will be good days and bad days.....but isn't that part of everyone's life too? We have all been where you are, and we all are here for you for support, feedback, tears and smiles, and celebrations. I'm looking forward to many years of sharing life with these ladies, and you are now part of us. (((((x)))))

Bevlee, YAY for nearing the end of the chemo ordeal - almost there!!!!!

Dakota, glad you're not stuck in the white stuff anymore. After a while the fun wears off.

Traii and Edi, you cracked me up about the 'passing' - what a hoot you two are!

46andsingle, hope you are eating well, relaxing, and have stopped worrying so much.

Nihahi, are you cooking peas or what? LOL! Good for you on the yoga class on this lazy holiday Monday. I do one yoga class a week, and I just love it. So good for you. Do you have a holiday in Alberta too, or is it just BC? Last night DH worked a night shift, came home at 3.30 am. When he works night shift, I somehow never go to bed until very late. So we slept in, and I dragged myself out of bed at 10.15 this morning (!!!!!) to go to the gym - had to work off the excesses of the birthday weekend. I'm getting minor surgery under local anaesthetic for a blocked tear duct on Wednesday, so may not do any exercise for a few days after that. The dr wants me on three days bed rest afterwards, and I have a hard time with that. It's only a very small procedure. Three days bed rest? Really?

Dear Liefie, ok, now I'm chuckling. No defo not cooking peas! Icing my chest is the only thing I have found that helps to ease the pain of the implant capsular contraction. Sometimes my ice packs aren't "refrozen" enough (from using them on my shoulders) and as an ex-therapist, I know that a bag of frozen peas makes a good ice pack, so I use that. After doing something like yoga which obviously can activate the chest muscles, I have to ice the "alien boob" to get it to settle down.

I too get bored with not being active, but sometimes, being forced to slow down is a good thing, too. Our long weekend is next weekend, so I'm hoping to get a good snowshoe trip in. When is your recon surgery booked for? I can't remember. Is it spring yet for you on the island? Feels like it here, but just a trick, cause winter will certainly return.

Benny, Edi, Traii, how's the se's today.

    Caitlin, thinking of you lots.

    Lesleyanne....any outdoor fun yet?

Went to the ski area yesterday to walk around and check out some snow carving contest. Put the snowshoes in just in case but decided on a nice lunch and coffee and watching the ice skaters so I got out but not "out". I did my gym workout in the morning because I do not want to skip that routine I just started but not quite up for one hour cardio and snowshoe - yet!! Coming up on 8 weeks post op stage 2 so just trying to reclaim me after a pretty tough 2012....four surgeries, one pretty standard, one emergency, one 12+ hour, and one 7 hour. There was no exercise at ALL in 2012 for me I was always recovering so I have a long road but I will get there....

Carla, congrats on your son's 16th birthday today! Soon he will fly the nest, so do enjoy him while you can. My baby boy turned 26 on Friday - was born on his dad's birthday. I can't believe how fast the time went. It feels like yesterday when he was a toddler in a diaper trying to keep up with his bigger brother and sister who always tried to run away from him . . .

Liefie....too funny, can I still claim chemo brain? If not, I'm going with the "I'm old, what do you expect" excuse. Yeah, of course you know the "pea" story!!!!

Carla...good to hear from you, even if you're having technical difficulties. Seems to happen to everybody, but just think what it would be like if we all hadn't "found" each other.

Nihahi, here's a good one, 'I've got chemo brain. What's your excuse?' LOL!

Traii, maybe a wrap or gown may help for the cold while you're on the thrown . . . oh, the fun of chemo! But then again, when you're so cold, it is so nice to get back into the warm bed, and put your cold feet against hubby's. Always gives me such pleasure.

For dinner I made spicy chicken thighs under the broiler, sweet potato in the microwave, and a pineapple-cilantro salsa on spinach leaves to cool down the spicyness from the chicken. DH informed me afterwards that he only likes cilantro with curried chicken. You'd think he would speak up as he was watching me preparing it, but no. He cleaned his plate though . . . men are strange.

Liefie...you are such a hoot! Love your sense of humor. Gotta worry a bit though, you did bring us mooseBALLS, and now you've moved on to chickenTHIGHS...can't wait to see what kind of "knee" recipe you have :)!

Traii...you may remember sweet sixteen, but I can tell you that you still look 16! How do you do it? Congrats on reaching the next pause in chemo...you're getting close to the end! I'd recommend lighting a candle in the loo, forget the light/fan scenario. But I do identify with the glee of planting cold feet on hubby's warm ....... (imagination takes over here :)!

Dakota, my cousin in MA sent me a message today that now they were getting rain and sleet..oh joy! Hope you stay warm and safe. How did the kids do while you had to work today?

I stubbed my toe on a table tonight....my hubby looked at me and announced I was going to be in big trouble soon, as we were going to run short on ice packs and frozen peas. hmpf.

Congrats Carla and Liefie on your babies birthdays, my DD turns 34 tomorrow, and yes she is still my baby girl.

Lesleyann, yes a better year ahead of you.

I was kind of in the dumps last week after bloodwork and herceptin on Wednesday. BW came back with my WBC still low after 12 weeks of no chemo. I only hope it is from radiation and that it starts to come back up soon. I am always a little on the low side. The herceptin went well, no SE and I didn't have to stick around after the infusion. I guess after the 4th one protocol lets you leave right away. That was a relief.

I have put up on my avatar a picture of the top of my head. Hair is not too bad, maybe no more hats in a few weeks. It is coming in so white that a picture from front doesn't show the hair as well. I was so happy when my Grandaughter came over for a visit on sunday( I hadn't seen her for about 2 weeks), and she ran up to me and said, Grandma your hair is growing lots!!...she made my day!

I have to go back and read posts so I can't comment too much, hope you are all well, and nihahi, you might need to buy more peas!!...your poor toe, that hurts the dickens!!

Benny girl so glad you are back, and so sorry you ended up in the hospital, but you did get through the chemo and you are moving forward with your journey. Hope this round is better for you.

    Take Care All.....xxx

Bearcub, your hair looks so good to me - do you really still need hats? As for the low WBC count, mine is still low 9 months PFC. That's why I've now started to eat a few oysters every day, because it contains zinc which you need to get that count up. Don't really like fresh oysters; it's also expensive and not readily available. So I buy canned smoked oysters from Wal-Mart. It is delicious on a cracker. Now just don't eat too many . . . LOL!

Traii, yes, when you gotta go you don't want to be struggling with a gown, hey? I'm going to bed now. Have written enough nonsense for one day.

Bevlee, Sooo excited for you last one on the way. Going to pinch alco free wine idea when mine happens. Read somewhere on this site that as one lady had the last one they ring a big bell ! What a lovely idea too.
    How the se's ?

Dakota, if we do come back to this earth a second time around, will you be my Mum please ? Your little ones will never forget how you still got there whilst going through this.

Nihahi, Toe noooo, that is defo a pain to rival the alien. Bought a new pack of frozen peas ( to eat ) the other day and thought of you, always will from now on lol.

liefie, little one in nappies, what lovely memories, sigh. When I look at my boy who is built like a brick outhouse I really can't believe how fast the time has gone.
Thinking of you tomorrow with the tear duct op. Your DH will have to tie you to the bedhead to keep you resting for three days. he he, now wait for nihahi to read that bit Laughing. DH can do the cooking too that should be interesting to see what bits he makes into a delicious dinner for you.
You are right about men being strange, mine does same thing Not the bedhead lol, the food.

Carla, this is a long one and if I lose it will throw this netbook across the room! Happy bday to your baby boy.
My baby girl is 37 this Saturday, we still refer to her as " the baby ".
You ARE getting there and being so posiitive. Nihahi is right sooo glad we found each other on here.

Traii, 3 am so not nice and the fan adds insult to injury. I was dancing away whilst blitzing wardrobes 5 pm yesterday stuff piled everywhere between me and door then OH OH same thing happened to me ! Picture this 65 year old leaping over boxes and bags like a flippin racehorse to get out the door to the loo.
As soon as I sat down the phone rings, then the mobile, both of which I had run past on my way, I usually grab them on way to bathroom as if DH rings and doesnt get an answer he thinks I am lying unconcious or worse somewhere.
As you know can be there for a while lol.
Last of my pills today too.
Feet on DH good idea, I have elec blanket my side as DH can't stand them. When really cold I feel these big feet sneaking across.

Bearcub, hair fantastic !! I wouldn't be wearing hat either, you got it girl, flaunt it, bit of makeup pair of earrings very glam !! I happily went out like that when first had mine buzzed and had so many compliments.
Sorry to hear about bloods, hope they pick up soon.

Lesleyanne, you will be snowshoeing before you know it. You have been through so much and are amazing.

Ok now have to start on the last of these pills then porridge yay ! Love to you ALL.
