So many decisions still
I'm so glad to have found this forum because I feel as though no one, even some people here, just don't understand my anxiety and shy I'm so nervous with every step. I find it so hard to make medical decisions because I don't know what's going to happen, there is no going back on some and I just want my life back!!
So, I am now scheduled for a hyster on the 25th plus now I have a "sludge" in my gallbladder so in order to get rid of it, I am also having the gallbladder removed. I need to return to wiork within 1 to 2 weeks!! Can someone please tell me they have done this and it will be ok? My onc said its laparoscopy and very easy, should be no problem, but I just don't believe doctors anymore...

Well, you'd feel better if it were the surgeon explaining it to you, since s/he is doing the procedure, vs the oncologist!
I had laproscopic hysterectomy/oopherectomy. It was fine. I had an overnight in the hospital but alot of hospitals do it as ambulatory surgery, which should tell you alot about how quick the recovery is etc. You have to take it easy, totally follow and listen to your nurses and dcotors, but you can walk a bit every day until you get your strength back.
I didn't have to go into work during the time I had the laproscopic surgery, so I couldn't tell you how many days it was, but I should think 2 weeks would be plenty of time, assuming you are able to sit down on your job.

There's a great site for hysterectomy support and info called hystersisters. I wish you the best, it's a lot to deal with! Finding out as much as possible helps me, ask lots of questions and as Jessica says, ask them of your surgeon not your oncologist ((hugs))

Dear B123, I had a laproscopic hysterectomy, and had my gallbladder removed at the same time, also laproscopically, on Dec. 29, 2011. For the first five or six days post-op I took pain medication called Tramadol which took away the pain. My recovery was easy, but I did not try to do stuff at all, rested in bed, and took a lot of naps. The medication makes you a little sleepy too. It helped that I have adult children who came and took care of the household chores, and did all the cooking/cleaning.
About going back to work, I honestly think you need more than two weeks to recover. My guess is your onc is a man who's never had a hysterectomy. It is still a major surgery, and post-op care is just as important as the surgery. You can invite a lot of complications if you don't take it easy, and you don't want that. My advice is to get a support system in place, and to take the time to rest, and heal properly. Better safe than sorry. It is what it is, and it's better to just resign yourself to the fact that this will take time. Your health is more important than your job at this stage, and people are remarkably understanding/sympathetic when they hear the C word. Big hugs to you!

Liefie, yes he is a man... Lol..
I know your right, but I can't take 3 weeks off. I will have to go back, they don't know what I'm doing, they think its just the GB only. Your lucky you had the help and your kids are older, my kids are 15 and younger. I know my sister in law went back to work half days after the 2nd week. She mentioned that she was really fatigued more then anything. -
Jessica, thanks for your advice, I am trying to listen to them, they say 2 weeks but I'm worried about complications in recovery... Plus I'm worried about taking everything out at one time and if its the right thing to do. bayful: you both are right, i love my onc but this doesnt serm to be her area. i will talk to him again. i know he thinks im crazy but... i need to be 110% sure! thanks so much all of you! p>
