Breast cancer survivor. Waiting for biopsy results.

Any words of encouragement, wisdom, comfort appreciated. I was diagnosed with stage 2a breast cancer in my right breast October 2010. I had a lumpectomy with removal of some lymph nodes, 5 months of chemo and 35 radiation treatments. I finished treatment in August 2011. I have been doing very well.

However, Sunday night (5 days ago), as I was getting ready for bed, I noticed my right breast was quite reddish-purple and inflamed. Alarmed, I saw my oncologist's nurse practitioner Monday morning. She looked at my breast for no more than 10 seconds and told me I'd have to see the surgeon. I saw the surgeon the next day. He did an ultrasound which showed thickening of the skin of my breast. He then brought in a colleague to take a look, and this guy was rather flip in telling me "all I had" was mastitis. He said antibiotics would clear it right up. I knew from having done a bit of research that IBC is OFTEN MISDIAGNOSED as mastitis, so I insisted on a biopsy. Theydid a skin punch biopsy. This was Tuesday. It is now Friday. My breast is less inflamed but still pink.

Because I have already had cancer in this breast, I am starting to freak out a little since I haven't gotten the results back. Can anyone tell me something to ease my mind until I get the call? I sure hope it comes today. My family is also freaking out. Thank you.

I have no special words of wisdom only that I hope you get good results. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Try and stay busy until you get the news. Take care. (((Hugs)))

Let's pray the pompous ass is right and it is mastitis. For once, let's hope that the jerk with the bad bedside manner and cavalier flip attitude knows what he is looking at. I know you are scared and I wish I could hug you and reassure you, so please accept a big virtual hug and know that we are praying that it is benign for you!Smile

Let's hope the ahole with the horrific bedside manner is right. From inflamed to pink sounds like a great sign. Taking antibiotics?

Another vote for hoping the flippant a-hole is correct. Hugs! :)

Awwwww, you guys are AWESOME! Thank you for your comments. I did get the results back today, and they were negative. I'm thrilled, to be sure, but I am planning to speak with my oncologist on Monday, just to see if she thinks I need to pursue this further. I am on antibiotics--Augmentin, to be specific. I will see the breast surgeon again on Friday for reexamination. But I DON'T plan to put my life on hold til then! I've spent the past week being worried and miserable. That is not the plan for the coming week. :-)

    Thanks again.

Happy news indeed. Hopefully your BS will say this is the end of it!
