Radiation After Effects
Hello everyone,
I finished my radiation in August 2012 and my chemo in June 2012. Yet I am having pretty bad soreness on the side of my breast that was treated with rads. So far I haven't found a bra that is comfortable with this. So I am still wearing camisoles. I feel kind of bad to not be wearing bras yet. Does anyone else still have effects from rads this long after the treatment?
Thanks.
Pam

I'm two years post-rads and still have rib and clavicle pain, also chest tightness and pain in the tissue there - could you have some adhesions starting. Sounds like you had a lumpectomy, I had MX. I've traded my MX bras for MX camisoles - love it!!! You should probably ask your RO about the pain though.

Hi Pam, I finished rads the same time you did. I also am not able to wear a bra and go around in cami,s. I have even gone as far as bying a nipple shield. Is it your whole breast or I should say the whole area that has been radiated?? I know it is painful . Have you had a chance to talk to your R.O about it? or even another Dr. on your med. team?I would bring it to their attention just so they are aware of it and that you have some concerns and it would give you some answers.

Pam - same here. I finished in July I don't have any surface soreness, it's more of a deeper soreness like a bruised or swollen feeling. It seems to be worse in the warmer weather. I still have to alternate bras throughout the weeek when it's acting up.

I am nearly 3 years out from rads, and still experience very, very dry skin during the winter time. I can barely stand to wear bras when the cold weather comes due to the itchiness of my skin. Once spring/summer/fall is here, I am fine to wear bras, but my skin really suffers from dryness in the winter.

Wow. I had no idea others were experiencing this pain and discomfort also. I have begun to see an ot who specializes in lymphedema for the range of motion and swelling and that has helped. I would tell my doctor but think you'll need to focus on working with a trainer or pt who is familiar with the tightening that comes from radiation. No real help from my docs.

I watched a video where a women didn't wear a prosthesis, even though she had a boob on the other side, it was so beautiful that I decided to get some tight cami's, like the Genie ones, spanx cost too much, and try going Uniboob, because even the mx/prosthetic cami's have elastic under the boob, which seems to cause me pain. We'll let me tell you, I'm loving it - you have to realized I'm a DD on my non-BC side, and concave on the BC side, the Genie cami has that little boob cover you can use it, so it makes me a little less concave - but my neck and shoulder pain are better, I'm just over all more comfortable, I didn't realize how much even the MX cami was pushing on sore areas.
