IDC -How long will it take to spread to lymph nodes
Hello
I am Andy from India. My mother had a lump in her left breast with 3cm size. Recently diagnosed with IDC. She is yet to have lumpectomy(may be after 2 days). I am worried. I never knew about breast cancer or its symptoms. My mother too when first felt the lump, thought it to be a fibroidenoma as she had it removed some 7 years back. My father,my brother and my aunt accompanied her to the hospital. She completed the tests before surgery today. The word 'Cancer' alone is frightens me. I got a job recently(after long trials), and I am supposed to join on 25th of this month. My brother who is doing his bachelors degree is ready to bunk his classes and exams too.
I would like to know how long will it take for an IDC to spread to lymph nodes?
Sorry, if my English is bad!!

andy6, There is no way to predict how quickly bc may spread to the lymph nodes, if it ever would have. A few weeks of waiting for surgery shouldn't be a problem. It's more important to follow through with the tests to make sure the right surgical and treatment decisions are made first. Keep in mind that many, many women have had IDC spread to their lymph nodes and they are doing fine after treatment.
Your English is fine. So good of you to help your mother this way. Insist that your brother stay in school. That will do more to help your mom, than anything else he could do.

doxie,
Thank You for your reply. My mom said its better for me to stay at home wid my grandma. So my brother decided not to attend his classes for a week. My moms brothers are with me right now. All my relatives call and ask about my mom.The more they call, the more tensed I get.
I sometimes think of giving up my job and be with my mom throughout the procedure. But my mom do not want me to give up my job.
I cant even cry as it may tense my granny. So just getting a relief through these discussions.

andy6, Your mom sounds like a strong person, who wants the best for her children, but is not afraid to ask them for help. My daughter helped me throughout treatment, sometimes taking off from work. When I knew I would be fine by myself, I insisted she go to work.
Andy6, It's important to let your emotions out. If you need to cry, find a place away from your granny. Or better still, go talk to her about how you feel, give her a hug and cry together. It will bring you closer together and make you both feel better.

Bless your heart Andy we all know you are scared for your mother; the C word is a scary thing but what you should also know is that it isnt the death sentence anymore. Your mother has IDC; so do I. I had a lumpectomy followed by 33 radiation treatments and now on meds to prevent a recurrence. Thats pretty standard for surgery and treatment for someone with IDC. Your mother's dr, and you and your family, will know a lot more after your mother's surgery. Dont hesitate to ask your mother's doctors any questions you may have. Try not to worry and feel free to come on this forum anytime; we will be happy to support/help you in any way we can. Good luck. Keep us posted. Diane
