For me Taxol is horrible. I feel so much worse after it than AC. MY whole body aches - neck, jaw, face, shoulders, rib cage, arms - and what is worse is that trying to rest doesn't help at all - in fact lying down hurts!!  Off for a nice hot bath with epsom salts to see if that gives some relief and then try to get some sleep. I am on dose dense every two weeks - have had two treatments.

Hello Taxol Friends,  I am about to go for my 3rd round of dose dense Taxol on Friday.  I have had a little numbness, and tingling in my fingers and toes, also muscle aches and pains, but my biggest concern is the blakening of my fingernails.  I have read that you can lose them but what I am now curious about is how you manage with losing 3 or 4 at the same time?  How long does it take for them to grow back?  It is very hard for my to grasp or pull at anything now, I can't imagine what it will be like if I do lose a few fingernails.  Does anyone have any suggestions or advice for dealing with this?

Deb, I had taxotere, not taxol, but the two are similar. I finished mid-December (2011) and I still had serious muscle pain and tired-feeling muscles into March. My onc said it was inflammation of the muscles. At some point I did 8-10 days of a daily, low dose of anti-inflammatory and that did help break the cycle somehow.

I made an effort to drink lots of water, eat really well with anti-inflammatory foods daily and get some exercise daily. The problem eventually went away.

teacher911 - I had numbness and tingling in my finger tips after the first dose of Taxol and my finger nails began turning black (was on the dose dense two week protocol), however, my oncologist told me to take a Vit. B complex vitamin three times a day - she said Vit. B helps to support and heal nerve fibers? I also used tea tree oil on my cuticles and held a frozen water bottle in my hands during the infusion. The numbness and tingling went away and the nails stopped turning blacker - the blackened areas are still growing out 6 weeks post the last Taxol dose but they never got worse and I didn't lose any nails. I'm still taking the Vit. B because I still have trouble using my fingers to pull on things, it's like they aren't as strong as they used to be? Good luck...hope it settles down for you...Maureen

My fingernails are acting exactly like runners toe. Black and sensitive. I also have blood blisters in the bottom if my feet. Everyone I talk to says this is temporary so I am not worried. My kids think it's cool :)

After my first dose dense taxol ten days ago. I have numb finger tips. My onc said to take B6 100 mg twice a day and l-Glutamine 10 mg three times a day. I go for treatment 2 on Monday so I'll see if it prevents any further damage!

I just keep telling myself that if this chemo is so strong it affects every part of us it must sure be doing a real number on our cancers!

I did my first round of Taxol last week.  It took two days for the aches to kick in, but by the third day I was totally miserable.  Horrible throbbing and stabbing pain that wasn't helped by Tylenol, Motrin or Vicodin (7.5/750).  The really bad pain lasted for three days, then went back to flu-like aches.  It's eight days after Taxol and I'm still achy with shooting pain.  At its worst, I could barely walk and felt like my feet were fractured.  Couldn't get comfortable and a lot of my pain was in my hip/pelvis area.

I finished taxol on March 13, 2013.  Currently, I still have very little numbness in my feet. Well only in both of my big toes and the tips of my fingers.  I don’t really have any body aches but I do still have hot flashes which I have notice they have decreased a lot.  I now can sleep a full night without a hot flash but once I wake up BAM there it is and a little throughout the day but not how it used to be though.

I finished 12 weeks of taxol 24 days ago after 3 months of adriamycin and cytoxin. I started feeling numbness in my fingers and toes by my 3rd treatment of A/C. By my 8th round of taxol i started experiencing severe back pain periodically. By wks 11 & 12, it was really bad & had to take a pain pill (norco) 3 or 4 times. Now it is so bad that I have to take 1-2 every day. My legs are weak & I can't walk very far. My hips, thighs & arms hurt periodically but the pain in my back is terrible. The numbness in my hands and feet is getting a little better & not throbbing with pain like they were...but it does look like I am going to lose most of my nails. I've spent most of the past 24 days in bed...just hoping & praying that the pain will get better soon :(

Hi! First let me say may God bless and keep us all. Second it's late and I'm tired so I'll make it fast. Taxol was part of my treatment last Spring for triple negative breast cancer. I had 8 rounds of chemo four of them being Taxol in April/May 2013. The reason I am up right now is the awful leg pain. It used to hurt mostly during treatment and when I'd been on them for hours. Now they hurt terribly all the time more so when resting. My joints hurt particularly my knees. I take vitamins E, D, Magnesium, Calcium, and a prenatal vitamin to boot. My doctor has me on 10mg of Methadone as a baseline pain medication and vicododin for breakthrough pain. I have had a double mastectomy, radiation complete with the lovely burns, and ongoing reconstructive surgery. None of that has been as difficult to handle as the ongoing leg pain. I see my oncologist this week and I hope she has some ideas on what we can do. Thankfully she is sympathetic to my dilemma. I'm a 47 yr old married mother of 6 ages 24 down to 8, and grandmother of 4 ages 1,2,2,and 5. I'd really like to return to work and just living a normal life. I've heard this can go on for years. I pray this is not the case. Good luck all. Glad to know we're not alone in these experiences.
