Websister, thank you so much for setting our minds at ease re Benny. She's been in our thoughts, and I hope she feels the healing vibes and prayers being sent to her all the time.
Edi, you are a walking comic, and a mainstay on this forum. That wig story is just priceless. Keep them coming!
Traii, a bison is a buffalo, a huge and very ugly animal, but very common in Canada. The taste of the meat is close to beef, and it is really delicious. When we left Edmonton yesterday, a friend gave us some mule deer jerky. Jerky is spiced, dried meat strips that can be made from beef or venison, and you can buy it everywhere. We certainly have a great variety of deer here in the Great White North.
Ever since I stepped off the plane last night, I've been feeling really dizzy. Hoped that it would be better this morning, but I'm still staggering around like a drunken sailor holding onto the walls to keep my balance. Must have something to do with the flying, because I was perfectly fine before. Needless to say no exercise will take place today, but I do have to drive to fetch the dog from the kennel. That will be interesting. Will just take it slowly. According to DH it's probably vertigo which I will google. Oh man. Just when you think now you've got things down pat and under control, something else rears its head . . . life is certainly not boring!
Have a good day, everybody!
-
Picture of my first Diaper Cake, much easier than baking and wig won't melt doing these.

-
Edi, that cake is just adorable - you are quite the artist! Wow!
Another household tip for when guests are coming, and there's no time for cleaning: Switch off all the lights and light some candles. The dust will then be invisible . . . LOL!
-
Edi the cake is gorgeous !!!
Would be great for me since I have already singed my wig.... Lol
Thanks for the house keeping tips!!! -
Liefie, thanks ,was thinking of starting a business making them from home. Wonder if it would work ?
LOVE the lights out and candles tip lol. When my brother bought his house they could only view at night. Think the people used this tip ,as when they moved in during the day it was minging ( gruby and not to clean ) He paid a fortune for it too. When they opened the dishwasher there were chop bones in the bottom of it, yuk. -
Dakota, thanks to you too.
Who needs housework ? you do it and five minutes later looks like you have never touched it lol.
Put gas fire on before and again just jumped back in time before wig melted lol. -
Look what I found!!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA
OSTRICH MEATBALLS
Serves (4 - 6)
Ingrediants
1 to 1-1/2 ground ostrich
3/4 cup dried breadcrumbs
1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
1 cup milk
1 egg (optional)
1 medium onion chopped4 garlic cloves, minced
1/2 cup fresh italian parsley, chopped
1/4 tea spoon dry oregano
1 tea spoon coarse salt
1/2 tea spoon black pepperInstructions
In a large bowl, combine ostrich meat and all the following listed ingredients. Mix well with a lerge spoon, and then with hands until all ingredients are well distributed. If mixture seems too dry, more milk may be added. Place mixture in a bowl, cover and refrigerate for at least 30 min. or overnight.
Shape mixture into smooth ballsabout the size of a wallnut. at this point, the meatballs may be fried in a skillet of hot oil, for 1 or 2 minutes on each side, or they may be baked on baking sheet, spaced about an inch apart, in a hot oven at 400 degrees F, for 10 minutes. These meatballs may be served in tomato sauce, or they can be served with a barbecue or yogurt dipping sauce on the side. -
Keemo, thanks for the recipe! Now to find that ostrich minced meat here . . . in South Africa it is sold in many grocery stores, as a matter of fact. It is very healthy, because it is so lean with almost no fat. Have often used it myself. It is red, and does not taste 'gamey' at all. Okay, I really have to stop doing this. You girls will seriously begin to wonder about me, and which bush I crept out of. Lol.
Edi, I actually think there is a lot of potential in making jerky as a home-based business. Most people love it, and it is a delicious, healthy protein snack. Provided you don't eat too much, or course! My youngest son made jerky once during his long summer university holiday, and sold it to make some extra money. He could hardly keep up with the demand.
-
Keemo -
Nice recipe. I can't get my kids to eat anything I doubt they will eat ostrich!!! My son tells me he hard chicken. Except chicken nuggets if course. -
Thanks Websister.
Edi diaper looks great. They are the craze here. Im going to do one up when my cousin has her bubs in her footy theime .. they sell them but i will try making one! And footy here is not soccer...lol its an oval ball!!
Better go jump in the shower.
Glad everyone doing well xx -
Traii, really easy to make.
Put in how to make a professional diaper cake on youtube.
Some of them you roll the diapers one by the top. one but this one easier you curve the diapers around in a cake tin then put large elastic band around the outside. I made an 8" one and a 6" one using new born diapers. Kitchen towel roll cardboard middle down the centre and a baby bottle sticking out the top. Also used Wide florist's paper ribbon around outside and you could use ribbon in colour of your choice on each edge of that. I used paper doilies to mimic icing on top of each one then decorate ! Only thing I wouldn't use again was a block of baby soap on the top layer, too heavy and hard to attach. Double sided tape is great for attaching things.
Look at a few videos as lots of ideas.
You can also make prams etc. Good way of making a bag of presents look really good.
I had a txt from the Mum to be and she really loved it.
good luck with bloods x -
@scouser, do I understand right, the diaper cake is a gift basket of baby supplies that looks like a cake, not an actual dessert? I'd never heard of one before and thought it was something good to eat. LOL The photo sure had me fooled! I was so amazed at the "frosting flowers", especially the yellow ones!
-
Okay, I had absolutely nothing to do with this weeks thread topics of exotic meats, flying wigs or "bubs and footy's" (What the heck does that mean, anyway, Traii?). Liefie, I don't think us fellow canucks are ever going to convince anyone now that we don't actually start each day "stalking the herds" for tonights supper!
Such good news from Websister that contact has been made with Benny. As Benny catches up on the posts, I hope she feels the love and hugs that have been sent to her during her abscence.
I went to yoga today for the first time since the shoulders seized up, and thoroughly enjoyed it, but should have come home and iced the shoulders. Went for a walk instead, and am paying the price now. Likely means I'll be up defrosting the peas later tonight!
jm...was thinking of you lots today. Hope your onc appt went well and you got some info and action plan, which might help you feel a little less "lost". Let us know how you are doing, OK?????
Benny, more love and hugs coming your way....((((((x))))))).
Traii, hope the bloods come back with counts going the right direction for you. You are such a positive gal, but it certainly is ok to have some sad times too. (((((x))))).
EVERYBODY else, have a good night. Love ya
-
Websister.....thank you for updating us on Benny....hope she will be able to come back soon.
Edi....what can I say???......you just make me laugh...and you sure are an artist...wow
Everyone else .....hugs -
Edi, I will look into you tube, yeh I've seen a pram one and even a car etc...one lady here in my suburb makes them, she has a page on FB and some of the ideas on there is amazzing. I'm loving your one and glad the mum to be loved it too.
Nihahi, Heres a pic (yeh I did it, don't ask me how) !! of our footy ( football) Aussie Rules Football...... Its a bunch of men in tight shorts kicking a ball whom get paid lots of money....lol
Bubs, is just an abbreviation for baby....lol at our slang language, us Aussies are known for our 'slang' abbrevation, we abbreviate and change words a lot......lol
Curveball....a diaper cake ( well us Aussies say Nappie...) is a 'cake' made of nappies and you can put dummies, bottles, face washes, towels anything made up of baby items really.
How cute's this one.....not sure if I'm that talented like Edi though.

Liefie, Ahh so Bison is a Buffalo, well I know what that is...lol...I've had venison before my BIL hunts deer....nice meet. The first time I tasted it DH said come over for dinner, having a roast...so i did, until I ate it and all, they told me I ate deer...I felt sad thinking it was 'bambi' but I did enjoy it.....I've never tried Jerky before...not many places sell them here
Having fish for dinner tonight, flake and salad for DH and veggies for me and might whack some chips in the oven.
-
Nihahi, I also think the horse has left the stable on the herd stalking issue, and it's no use, so here goes. Tonight I cooked moose meat again, but this time I curried it with beans, lots of veggies and coconut milk. Fresh cilantro made a nice topping for the whole thing. It was wa-a-a-a-y better than the mooseballs, and the dog will not get any this time.
Traii, as an ex-South African I am also a fan of the oval ball game, and still to this day a staunch supporter of the Springbok rugby team. Does that make us enemies now? Don't think so?! I haven't been to a baby shower in a long time, and cannot believe the cute things you come up with.
-
Lol lifie, no we are not enemies.....I don't know about rugby....footy is different, rugby they bash eachother don't they...lol..... I'm off to a baby shower in March. I never had one, figured well all the people I would be inviting would be giving me gifts once baby arrived so I didn't think it was fair...so instead we had a 'naming' party...still an excuse for us girlies to play games and eat ... so I told htem to each bring a list of girls and boys names and we could go through them all together...as it turned out....we decided on naming my son a name that was not on any list...lol but it was a good excuse to have a party !
-
Hello Ladies!
Just catchin up here.. eating an ice block and gettin thru day 6 ..(6 & 7 suck!)
Hey Traii !! Go The Aussie Footy!!! or in fact, "Any Sports With Men In Shorts!" Whose your team? I am an Eagles supporter. I run a 'Footy Tipping Competition' every season on facebook for my downs syndrome brother. He Loves it.. actually about 33 people love it!! $500 prize. It's a lot of fun!
Interesting (or not) fact; 0.3% of car accidents in Canada involve a moose! I just read that on a panty liner wrapper.. LOL.. not sure how accurate that is???
QUESTION!!!
Have any of you guys heard of the 'theory' that there is a link between breast cancer and root canal treatment?
And, who has had a root canal treatment? I have.
I have been researching again.... looking looking, no harm in looking. But I do, i must say, take some convincing.
Sending Loving Healing Vibes To You All Out There
Bevlee

Sisters we are truLy the BC United Nations. Such a variety and such fun.
Nihahi and Liefie, you two crack me up ( make me laugh ) the mental picture of you stalking the herd made me spray my tea all over the keyboard.
Off for second part of cmf
check in later, love to you all x -
Goood luck edi.....tomorrows my 2nd half. In ya pocket

Bevlee...true true any man in shorts kicking a ball..lol
Go the bombers!!
Thats so good re footy tipping for your brother hope he wins:) -
Hi ladies -
Good luck edi and Traii !!!
What does the second half entail ? How many treatments do u have left??
Luv and hugs to all !! -
Hey Dakota
One cycle is split over 2 weeks. So after tomorrow i have one cycle left !! One on 27th then on 6th March but we also have chemo tablets over 2 weeks starting on the first day of cycle! I finish chemo pills on 12th March...my birthday so may wash them down with a glass of wine....lol -
Edi, the BC United Nations - just love that! They should let us rule the world. Honestly. We are a shining example of how to get along, despite vast differences. Yay for us! To you and Traii, best wishes for the second half of treatment. You are getting there.
Bevlee, hope you don't have too many SE's. Don't know about the root canal connection, but don't beat yourself up about it. I have learnt to stick my head deep into the sand like an ostrich when it comes to these things. Nothing you can do about it anyway, so why worry? All of us will die sooner or later. None of us will get out of this life alive, so just enjoy every day to the fullest. Sermon over!
-
Websister...since you list your blogsite in your profile, I have been reading it, and I want to say what a beautiful writer you are. Such inspirational and honest thoughts there. Thank you for sharing it with us.
I must tell you though, that after reading your most recent post, I too, have joined the ranks of those who "spit their drink across their keyboards"! I really don't mean to offend, and sincerely hope that I am referring to someone's "theatrical" name and not a given name, but when I read your reference to someone who's name is MAGNOLIA BUCKSKIN I commenced with the keyboard mositurizing! OH NOOOOOOOOOO........I thought! For us canucks, we have now even lost the barn, and might as well retreat to the caves and start sharpening the spears. Too funny!!!! (or am I the only one who thinks so????)
I am thinking of all you ladies up for chemo this week. You are all getting through this and moving forward with each new day.
Traii...how's the blood counts?
Edi....how's the nausea?
Carla....how's the headaches?
Bearcub....how's the cold?
Dakota....bet your photo at work is just fine. Your smile shows how genuine you really are.
jm......haven't heard from you?
Bevlee.....my advice would be to stay away from dr. google and follow Liefie's advice.
Liefie.....great advice.
Scottie, Curveball, Keemo...... EVERYBODY ELSE! Have a great day. (((x)))
-
Curveball, tickled that cake fooled you. The flowers were just silk ones to give cake a bit of colour. Little roses were scratch mitts rolled up. You can also do that with tiny socks.
Liefie, I do think women should rule this world anyway. We would not send our boys and girls away to die in wars about oil etc. We would sit down with our knitting, coffe and cakes and work it all out.
Good advice to Bevlee, if you visit Dr Google everything you have ever eaten, drunk, inhaled or sprayed causes cancer of some sort. I personally blame all the flippin hormones they put in meat but heyho too late now as you say.Jm, ((( Hug ))) to you thinking of you, hope all went well,
Nihahi, Magnolia Buckskin !! not just you ha ha.
Hope peas did the trick. I have a tiny bit of backache so have just bought a lavender wheat roll to micro for heating up. Pop behind me while sitting watching TV and it is magic. Seems I can also freeze it so that is handy.Benny, Thinking of you every day XXXXX
Scottie< glad I can make you laugh, only reason DH married me. One night in bed years ago I had him roaring with laughter ( no sex involved by the way ) Door flies open and teenage daughter stands there hands on hips. " Will you two be quite, I am trying to sleep " We had to pull duvet over our heads and put hands over mouths.

Traii, Love the bike one, can you tell me her page on F/B please so I can have a good nose ?
Pics are great too.
Men in tight shorts, fan me with a dead kipper, phew. Don't care what if anything they are kicking lol.
In your pocket tomorrow, could you pop a portaloo in there please in case se's start. You might want to give me my own pocket ha ha.
We are having fish for dinner too. With tiny spuds, garlic mushrooms, and peas.
Baby showers new here too. People seem to take a present to them then just a card when little sprog arrives. Otherwise expensive do.Dakota, sure your work pic stunning. When my ED got married she looked so beautiful, I know she is anyway, but she had blue contact lenses in, silicone nails, and chicken fillets in her bra to make boobs look like they existed. We all do it BC or not.
Bevlee, big hug girl, creased up with the moose info on a PANTY LINER.Whatever next.
Hope your brother wins.Second part of CMF was done and dusted in one hour today ! Feel great but always do on the day. Didn't have to see onco doc after all. We had packed sandwiches and a flask as even though they have a great cafe there you can guarantee the minute you settle down they call you.
Hope everyones se's are minimal.Love you all more than chocolate x

Haven't been on here in awhile, while recovering from surgery and distracted by other things. Feeling pretty well now, just a little tired at times and some soreness and tingling in the arm from lymph node removal. Got the last drain out yesterday, and that helps a lot in terms of comfort. Starting physical therapy tomorrow. Think part of the reason I'm recovering well is that friends from work were just wonderful, bringing us food during the first week after surgery, stopping by to visit and helping out in other ways. Also, my DH has been the most devoted, attentive (and surprisingly, skilled!) nurse in the world.
Received final pathology results last week and they were quite of disheartening. Despite all the imaging I had post-diagnosis, there was a surprise second tumor present in the same breast, plus heavy lymph node involvement (10/25 positive). Was feeling kind of down about that, but have seen posts from other women on various threads with a lot of positive lymph nodes who are still doing well 5 - 10 years out, so have to work on getting my head on straight, rather than becoming defeatist.
So now there's no doubt about me doing chemo - scheduled to start 6 rounds of T/C on Thursday (but having a quick check in with my second opinion doc tomorrow to get her take - mainly about elevated risks associated with my blood disorder/malignancy). Will also have radiation to both chest and armpit/shoulder area post-chemo.
Edi and Nihahi, have been enjoying your photos. Nihahi, those winter scenes are stunning!
Websister, so glad that you were able to make contact with Benny - hope to see her back on here soon.
Traii and Dakota, wonderful that you're nearing the end of the chemo tunnel! I hope the rest of it goes well for both of you.
-
Edi - flattered that u love us more than chocolate
glad it went well today !!!
Caitlin- sorry to hear about ur nodes but know that chemo will do the trick and it easier knowing than not knowing. March on!! We r here for u !!!
Just had some chocolate and sending luvs
-
Hi Caitlin...good to hear you are recovering well. Sorry to hear you had positive nodes...always a bummer but now you have a treatment plan like it will all fall into place and chemo will do its trick. Youve got the C out of you now to clean up any strays. Glad DH is a good nurse....mine didnt pass the course though was a good assistant...lol. Hope he passes before I have my bmx....lol
Edi ill look up that fb page there are quite a few if u type in nappy cakes...lol.
Websister how u going on tamoxifen?
Nihahi not sure re bloods yet...damn local doc must've forgot to call me back last night
-
Hi ladies!!!! Busy at work but wanted to say hey and hope that eveyone is having as good a day as possible!
Love all the pictures. I tried to post some for Benny but I am truly technically challenged. Oh well.
Caitlin - I had a bunch of nodes removed and 6 were positive. The surgeon said she got clear margins so I think/hope that all is good. I did have chemo (4xAC then 12xTaxol) follwed by 6 wees of rads. I can't imagine any little cancer critters could survive the hell that was my body! They are so aggressive these days and I am thankful for that.
I have an appt tomorrow with my onc becuase my left boob feels achy and is a bit hot and swollen. The nurse called me right away to say that I should come in but not go to the dark side (which is of course where I went). She said it sounds like cellulitis? Oh hell! Anyhow, we shall see.
xoxoxo
Lots of love to you all and congrats to everyone on the tail end of the chemo trail!
-
Caitlin, so sorry to hear about the lymph nodes and the chemo. Was the same scenario for me when the path report after mastectomy and SNB came back with positive lymph node which then led to chemo and radiation. I wasted a lot of good energy on being very angry about that, which was really so stupid of me. Eventually I submitted, because what else was I going to do? It is not pleasant, but one hour and one day at a time it can be done. We will all be there for you. Big hugs to you!
Keemo, hope your appointment tomorrow goes well. Don't go to the dark side. It really sounds like an infection, which they will quickly cure with antibiotic.
Edi, you really love us a lot if you love chocolate as much as I do . . . thanks! We love you too.
Traii, hope you get your blood results soon. Had mine done last week. My white cell count is still lower than normal nine months PFC, and I'm supposed to ingest more zinc, which will help to get the count up. Oysters contain a lot of zinc. so I've been eating lots of smoked oysters lately. So far no fireworks in the bedroom . . .LOL.
Happy to report that I'm back to normal today after being so dizzy yesterday. Got in my walk/run session on the treadmill this morning, and now planning the menu for DH's birthday party on Friday night. I'm thinking to make a nice array of appetizers, two different soups with homemade bread, and a decadent peppermint chocolate and caramel dessert in small wine glasses. Will also make small fruit skewers for the health conscious. This will keep me busy for the rest of the week. DH is taking Friday afternoon off to be my assistant, so it should be okay.
