Hello everyone. I am Andy and am 22 years old (by tomorrow) and a new member in this group. My mom has been diagnosed with IDC...My mom never had any health issues. She is always active and does lot of exercises. I still am unable to digest why she should ever have a carcinoma!!!

My grandpa(maternal) died 2 years back with liver problem. He had Hepatitis B virus. My mom had the virus too. She is the virus carrier. Thats what the doc said. Will this be a problem for surgery and for the further treatments, if necessary?? I know that a doc could answer this well. But there might be some1 who unfortunately had this problem before!

Please suggest me of how to get out of this fear as my mom is my best friend. We live in a town and there is a reputed hospital in a nearby city. My dad, brother and aunt accompanied my mom. My granny and relatives are with me right now. My mind is completely occupied with fear and how my mom would be feeling.

Andy, I just googled hepatitis B and breast cancer. There is an interesting article which cautions that the doctors treating breast cancer with chemotherapy need to make sure that the hepatitis is kept under control. So you should make sure that your mom's medical oncologist is aware of this if in the future, chemo is recommended for your mom.   http://theoncologist.alphamedpress.org/content/15/8/826.full

many of us led healthy life styles before (and now even more so, after diagnosis) and have not had a family history. There is no rhyme nor reason - don't dwell on it.  Just know that your mom's healthy lifestyle will help her recovery from surgery.

Hugs to you, you are a good daughter and keep us posted.
