ucla/revlon breast ctr? anyone go here? need for 2nd op?
hi all,
My mom has rec'd her ILC dx thru needle biopsy, but has not yet met with any type of dr. She will coming down to LA for treatment, at ucla/revlon. I am just wondering if anyone has any experience with this facility?
Before she comes to Los Angeles, we are trying to decide if she should keep her appt with a general surgeon in her smaller community, or just cancel it and wait until her appt @ucla/revlon next wk?
Thinking it might provide her some "peace of mind" and also answer any immediate questions, as well as prep her for what to expect with her next surgical appt/consultation- with the surgeon who will be doing her surgery.
At same time, concerned re Medicare, and how much out of pocket expense this will incur.
If she sees Dr @hometown, and then heads to bigger facility out of state and goes with this 2nd Dr for surgery. Is she just sorta wasting $$ (maybe also time) by seeing the 1st one?
Neither of us has any idea of what to do. This is all new to us!
Thank U all

My experience with Revlon Breast center was positive. Although I started there after my active treatment was completed, I have had no complaints with the follow up care I recieve. I was speaking to my mother yesterday and told her if I ever need treatment again, I will make the trip there.
I had my tx at my hometown cancer center, but the personal care, and ANY follow up was nonexistant. UCLA is great because all of your information is right there, if you need a test or are prescribed something, any caregiver is aware of it right then.

thank you so much for your response meece!!
I just posted again re her appt w/ local Surgeon! It went very well. He is a Good Surgeon from all my digging around, he has good bedside manner and really does follow up with his patients, local advocates in the area also love him,
and as far as his background- he did actually train specifically in breast! He is from SoCal, and Turns out he himself was at one time in contractual talks @ UCLA/Revlon Breast Ctr! When I mentioned to him I had made an appt w/ Dr. Chang @ Revlon- he actually knows her and said if my mom did seek care @ Revlon that she woud be in excellent hands!
That was good to hear! He also said, that if needed, when my mom was back home, he would be there for her- though he stated really at that point she is in the Oncologists hands. He felt very optimistic by what he knows NOW, that her cancer can be beat, and that she will require nothing more than the surgery--- ***I am hoping women will chime in re her choice or not of BMX... insurance only covers 1breast removal. (my other post)
**Meece! I am so glad to hear you had results with Revlon! Good to know you would return! But, I HOPE you never need to

I had my surgery and reconstructive surgery (DIEP) at UCLA. Nothing but good things to say. PM me for more information if you like.
