How can we protect our daughters?
So much of the focus of discussion in the media right now is the challenge facing breast cancer patients, the heroism of survivors, the need for more research. I agree with all of this, but I wish that the media would use the month to educate as-yet healthy women about what they CAN do to protect themselves against breast cancer in the future. The research has shown a link to alcohol consumption as well as the value of exercise. Health professionals suggest a healthy diet that focusses on whole grains, vegetables and fruit, certain types of fish, nuts, etc. with a decrease in processed foods, sugar, red meat.
I email copies of such information to my daughters and friends. I recently asked the editor of our newspaper to share some such research, with no luck. It seems that mastectomies make for sexier reading? Yes, the pain and emotional and physical upset is very real for all of us. But the goal I have is for a cure, and in the meantime, I want our daughters (and sometimes our sons) to have the information they need to better their odds!

This really bothers me as well. Even when I found my lump at 39 years old...I didn't really know what a "lump" was! Crazy, right?
Drinking is linked...birth control is linked...heavy metals in our everyday personal hygene items are linked...cell phone towers are linked...poisons/toxins/chemicals in our water is linked...
Big business is incredibly powerful and work against what really needs to be done.

I'm very interested in that information!!!!! My father in law died from prostatic cancer, my mother in law's sister died from breast cancer and two weeks ago my sister in law was diagnosed with breast cancer too.
I have two daughters, 9 and 6 and I want to prevent and give all the info. I will do whatever it takes to keep them on the safe side.
Evergreen, Could you give me some info PLEASE?
Thank you very much!!!!

Sorry I am so late with this info...these are the books I use as guides to diet.
And what I think is crucial... daily physical activity, ideally to the level of sweating. The research on this is becoming more powerful day by day.

This is one of the many reasons why I strive to eat a healthy diet. Breast Cancer runs in my family as well, specifically on my mom's side. It's very eye opening on how far healthy eating and exercise can go. Now when I think about it, my family members who did pass away from it ate very unhealthy and they rarely exercised.
