Im 40 years old and I was stage I invasive ductal carcinoma. Its been about six months since chemo and radiation. My question is...whenever I lay on my right side (its my left breast) my left breast gets hard inside and the aereola gets hard and puffy. Why is this happening? Is it part of healing? should I call the Dr.? Thank you for any replies.

Hi Pinkribbon and welcome. I've not heard of that happening so it would probably be a good idea to get it checked. I know it's easy to let your mind go to the 'is it back' place and you get the feeling that you are being a little paranoid but really, for peace of mind, if its really bothering you, no matter what it is, you should always refer to you doc.

    Hoping its nothing.

Pinkribbon I'm assuming you had a lumpectomy and if that is the case it may well be fluid build up. Did you have nodes removed? If so, you may have some lymphadema that is causing the swelling..........I am not a doctor but this crossed my mind. It really would be best to get it checked.

I doubt very much that it would be the return of BC so please try not to worry too much.

They took out the duct and a small piece of the chest wall. They took out seven clean lymph nodes. So is this normal? My breast went back to normal after I sat up for a bit.

Pinkribbon if your breast went back to normal on sitting for a while it really does sound like fluid but you still need to check with your doc if only for your own peace of mind.

Your body produces fluid to help itself heal and the lymph system helps to move it through the body but your lymph system has been interrupted by the removal of nodes so the fluid can build up.
