YAY! Five Years
It finally came and I tried not to make a big deal of it, but hooray I just celebrated my 5 year cancerversary. My husband was away on business so my kids and I had the big celebratory dinner out at chik-fil-a. I can't believe I am the one posting this after all the time I spent watching and being uplifted by the wonderful ladies that have posted before.
5 years in a nutshell:
I finished my Masters in Elementary Education
have homeschooled my children through 2 1/2 grades
saw my oldest graduate from high school and complete a year and a half at the Air Force Academy
designed and built my dream home
Began managing a travel soccer team
Traveled across Italy
Stopped looking over my shoulder for the shoe to drop (most of the time)
Thank you so much to all of you women here on BCO. This has been my support group from the very beginning. I gained tips on how to get through chemo from the January Gems, lots of support from the ladies in chemo during March 2008, heard words of wisdom as i thought every ache or sneeze was a reccurence, and now I watch and am thrilled to see so many women posting 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 or more year cancerversaries. Keep them coming because every one makes my day.

Thank you so much for all of the yay's. I know how much a familiar faces five year cancerversary makes my day and how much the 5 years of a complete stranger helped me keep my sanity in the early years of this journey. Hmmm in the next 5 years...I am PLANNING (something I wouldn't do 3 years ago) and would like to see my son graduate from the Airforce Academy, see my younger 2 both enter high school (one is returning to the public schools next year to begin middle school and I'll miss having him at home with me). In a couple of months I am going on a 185mile bike ride with my 12 year old from Cumberland, Maryland to Georgetown on the C&O Trail (5 days of camping with boyscouts, wondering if I should chalk this one up to chemo brain).
Any suggestions on places that I should make it to or goals I should set.
I'll start with losing 15lbs (gained when I had my ovaries out)
Seeing my oldest marry his high school sweetheart after graduation (together 4 years at this point)
Visiting mount Rushmore
Seeing the Giant Redwoods in California
Talking to my kids about puberty and seeing them go through it (yes a huge goal and something I thought I would miss)
And my number one goal in the next 5 years is seeing a cure for cancer and seeing every one of you post your five year milestone
-
and thanks DCMOM for sharing your journey with the rest of us...these are absolutely the stories that I run to when I am a bit down and need some inspiration......the list is indeed getting longer and longer of women making this 5 yr milestone.....
