I've been remiss in keeping up with you all over here. Got sucked into the activity of the 2013 survivors and can't find the time for that let alone both... Happy dance for those who earned it. Hugs for those who need it. Welcome to those who have joined - sorry you have to be here, but stick around and you'll get oodles of support.
Wanted to share. Today - when I really needed a pick me up - fate intervened once again. I think we've all had experiences like this, but it amazes me when someone is dropped in our path right when we need them. Been having some frustrating boo hoo me days with all these scans and appointments I have to do as follow-up to my little stroke scare after my exchange surgery. Was doing my best to feel happy and good today but glumness was looming as hubby and I waited at the pizza parlor for our slices after a long day of hurry up and wait at mskcc. Well - as I'm standing there in my scarf, a sweet young guy who couldn't have been a day older than 25 or 26 by my estimations came up to me and said - I hope you don't mind my saying this to you, but I finished chemo about a year ago and you look beautiful. Poor guy went through two surgeries and lots of chemo for lymphoma - but you wouldn't know it to look at him. He proudly announced that today was his 1 year clean scan. We talked for a bit and stressed how it gets better. The further out you get from the chemo - it all lifts away. And looking at him today - you'd never guess in a million years what he went through just a year ago. It was a really nice way to end a kind of crappy day.
Love and hugs to you all!

Ramols....thanks for sharing...what a beautiful story....I hope you have a better day tomorrow...😘

Quick update cause can't sit still. Lol. Got my insurance squared away and now $30 deductable as thought it should be! Big sigh of relief when pharmacy wanted me to hand them over $1050!! Worth all the phone time today! Another thank you to Marian for the generous offer but won't need them. :-). That was very sweet! Steroids are kicking ass and so I'm getting lots of housework done. It feels good but I know the crash will come so enjoying the time.
Love to all. Xox -
Way to go, Halfcan! It feels darn good to have that chemo behind you, doesn't it? Also glad your insurance came through for the Neupogen. I had to pay out of pocket, but ended up not needing that many shots, so the cost was not too bad in the end. Enjoy the energy before the crash, and wishing you minimal SE's this time.
-
Marian, just caught up on your blog. I was away during December, and was unaware of the rough ride you had had. Hopefully you are doing much better. How many more chemos to go? That sailing adventure sounds very ecxiting, and you must be sad to miss it. But I guess you have to work on getting yourself healthy again, and then you can enjoy that cat with your DH. Christmas in the Caribbean sounds wonderful, and by then you will be done, and back to your old self. Best wishes! Are you getting DIEP flap recon surgery?
-
Halfcan....happy for you.....just in case you crash....please put a helmet on....lol

Ladies, I finished my radiation treatments today and wore a tiara through the last one. I had to try to be a little silly because otherwise I would have been crying with joy the whole time! Now just the 5 years of tamoxifen and the follow ups etc! see you on the survivors thread!

Allurbaddays, so great to be done! About Tamoxifen, I can just add that I've been on it since August 1, and other than a few hot flushes which I had anyway, I have no other SE's from it.
Tazzy, thanks for the thread on the positive of Tamoxifen. It is good to read. YAY! It's Friday!!
-
Thanks for the welcome Juneau and for the link Tazzy - I need to see some positives
Have a good Friday, everyone -
From 2012 to 2013. Six months exactly since I found the lump. Summer to winter but at least I can look forward to spring for the next event! Feeling good even with Taxol #3 this week. Still no neuorpathy to speak of though my MO says it will likely still happen. It may be that the Gabaptentin I am taking is working for me. One of my chemo nurses says that it works for 30-50% of us.
We have been invited to Whistler for the weekend and though I don't ski we will stop and snowshoe at Callaghan (where several of the 2010 Olympic events took place) on the way home on Sunday. Everyone else will ski tomorrow and I will have a fun day I am thinking on my own. Sun is predicted for the whole weekend.
Have a good weekend everyone.
-
Marian, enjoy Whistler. What a beautiful little town! Also glad that you are feeling okay. Did you see my earlier post to you 18 hours ago?
-
liefie, thank you for that post! I did see it. I am having a tissue expander reconstruction and my PS will do a big fill (also using Alloderm for what they call a spint, hammock, support, whatever) during my surgery in hopes that it will stand up to the radiation. My last Taxol should be the end of the month then 5 weeks until the surgery. What is the latest for you?
-
marianelizabeth: I take Gabepentin for hot flashes. It works amazingly well. I was taking it post NSUMX for neuropathy too.
Snow shoing huh? I'll have to put that on my bucket list. Don't get to see that much around New Jersey. -
Big Congrats allure!!! I just got my last chemo and rads to come so behind you a ways. Happy for you!!! Yes, loved the tiara!
Marian - love Whistler. I spent 2 nights there just before chemo and we got the first snow! It is beautiful there. Only snowshoed once in Wash. State and had a blast but remember it to be some work. Lol. Have a fantastic time!!
Have a good weekend all with minimum SE's. That's my hope for me cause the sun is going to shine!!! Xox -
Marian, I had a left mastectomy and SNB in Feb. last year with TE placed, then it was filled to capacity over the course of a few weeks. When my path report came, I unexpectedly had one positive node with micromets, so then had to get rads, 25 of them. My PS said we would wait with recon for almost a year after rads. I can see that there is capsular contraction around the TE caused by rads, so that is why I'm getting a DIEP flap in May. It is no use to get an implant, because of the contraction that is sure to take place. I was hoping to get off easy with just an implant, but rads changed the game for me. The PS now wants to fill the TE some more before surgery to make sure she has enough skin to work with- not looking forward to that. I'm seeing her on January 30.
I'm glad you're almost done with the Taxol. For me chemo was the worst part of this whole experience, and it feels good when you walk out of that chemo room for the last time. Hope your TE holds up to the rads, and that your reconstruction will go as planned. I was one of the unlucky ones who got capsular contraction, but hopefully you will not get it. Good luck!
-
marian: as I posted on the Canadian thread.... have a great weekend. Whistler is a cute town. I've done snow shoeing, but at Cypress Mountain. Great fun.
Hugs to all with minimal se's.
Great weekend everyone. Still trying to find a routine to get into with work - geesh I had forgotten how many hours work takes out of our weeks.
-
Congratulations, ALLUR!!!!! RAMOLS, love the story. Thanks for sharing. I get those ever so often and it sure makes my light of hope shine a bit brighter

-
Hello Girls...I have been looking for a good online support group and hope I can join?
I was dx on 10/18/12 - been through 4 rounds of AC and 2 rounds of taxol next one will be on Wednesday
I have surgery scheduled for February 27th for a left breast mastectomy and hysterectomy
-
Hi Lexie and welcome. Sorry you have to be here, but its a great spot for any emotion you may be feeling. The girls are great here. Wear big pockets on Wednesday for chemo... we'll be jumping in with you.
-
Welcome, Lexie Ann! I've read your blog, and it touched my heart. You are almost done with the chemo, and rads are not difficult at all. You are getting there. I also had a hysterectomy and left breast mastectomy, but it was two different surgeries 5 weeks apart. With the hysterectomy I also had my galbladder removed. You are young, and will come through this. Best wishes!
