OK don't know what happened ? rest of post now.

Traii, loved drink link, my tipple is scotch and diet coke ice and lemon. As nihahi says everything is bad for you at one time or another.
My BC buddy has never smoked, rarely drinks, excercised every day and ate really healthy stuff. Then POW the BC bitch clobbered her. She now says, she is going to have fun and sod the consequences. Does make you wonder though doesn't it ?
Have a lovely two weeks free of medication.

Bearcub, halfway there GO GIRL !! be all done before you know it. People say you almost miss all the visits to hospital, and feel a bit cast adrift when it is all over. Sure we will all cope with that though lol.

Dakota, spag bol is really quick, tasty and easy you and the kids will love it. Make room in those pockets Thursday. I will bring a picnic for these hungry warriors and you.

Websister, Congrats on your MUGA scan, hope the fatigue etc eases soon.

Benny, good luck tomorrow ? you can run but you can't hide from us we will be there.

This stupid netbook is acting weird will go for now and pick up my little car.

    Luvsya all  X

Dakota, sure Traii will have a great recipe but here is the way I do it.
Fry a chopped onion, add lean minced beef and brown. Then tin of chopped tomatoes, garlic if liked and slice  mushrooms or little button ones left whole.( Bit of red wine if not for little ones. ) simmer on low heat about half an hour. Or you can buy various bolognaise sauces in jars which you just lash in after onion and mince.
I like to thicken the sauce with a little cornflour and water mix but up to you.
Cook some dried spaghetti or fresh if preferred.
Drain spaghetti put in pasta dishes, meat sauce on top sprinkle with parmesan or I prefer just crumbly white cheese and serve. Garlic bread lovely with this too.

our kids loved it and still do now. (You can add chopped peppers for colour and extra veg if you wish )x

I'm here, reading, just not posting, haven't been feeling too great. Met with oncologist this morning and had 'the big talk' again on whether chemo should continue for me. He is now saying two more A/C's but he's pretty sure I could not handle the taxanes so that is out the window. It scares me because I'm not just stage 0 or stage 1 here*.... I have locally advanced BC, 6 out of 15 nodes. I don't want to be sitting in his chair with lung mets etc this time next year saying why didn't I do the taxanes? He said the taxanes are much harder than A/C. So we are going ahead with tomorrow's chemo and will play it by ear in 3 weeks, which he willingly admitted will probably turn into 4 weeks as my system just cannot process the drugs. Got a prescription for 120 codeine tablets to take the edge off the mucositis pain, which I still have.

Oh great white potato, thank you for being you.

Am just waiting for the furnace guy to show up to install a humidifier on the furnace as the house has been so dry with the furnace running non-stop, and of course wiith chemo that's even worse. I hope to stock up on potatoes and water tonight and get a short visit in with the giant plush toy. Oh doorbell..... must run!

    * In no way do I mean to minimize the stress of having stage 0 or stage 1 BC. Please my friends, don't take that statement the wrong way.

Bearcub, we lived in Alberta before moving to Vancouver Island. DH is a keen gardener, and here he can garden to his heart's content except during the few rainy months every year. In summer he's outside till eleven in the evening enjoying himself, and I'm always scared that a cougar will attack him in the dark, especially when he's kneeling down. According to a recent estimate our area has the largest cougar population on the island, and they are often seen around. Glad your rads are going so well. My guess is that your skin will be fine if it is the new protocol of 16 rads. I had 25, and my skin stood up to that. Was red and itchy towards the end, but did not break down. Just keep slathering on the cream and aloe vera gel.

Traii, yes, it is so confusing to get this conflicting information on nutrition all the time, and what you may or may not eat or drink. The best thing is to do everything in moderation.

Edi, so glad you are SE free. It gives you a little breather. I am going to try your salmon with the ginger and spring onion - sounds really good. I have a lot of leftover salmon from last night. Will have to find ways to use it. It is lovely in a pasta dish, but DH does not want pasta, so that's a no go. I went to the health store this morning and bought organic wholegrain flour. Want to experiment a little, and bake bread with it. It is supposedly way better for you than wholewheat flour - another of those confusing pieces of info.

Everybody else, a very good day to you all.

Benny, I feel for you. Don't worry about the future now, or what treatments you can get or not. I also don't know if I agree about the taxanes being harder than A/C. Adriamycin is not called the Red Devil for nothing! I did not get that, and was so grateful it was Taxotere. So all is not lost, and maybe you will eventually try a taxane and be fine with it. Best wishes for tomorrow. Maybe the SE's will not be so bad this time. It tends to be a little different every time. With chemo #4, the last one, I had virtually no SE's. We will be in your pockets!

Wow, take some time out to go to Physio and everybody shows up! Good to hear from everyone.

Dakota, I hear ya about the energy it takes sometimes to have others "keeping you company". If that isn't what you want, it is great that you have the ***** to let them know what works for you.

Benny, hang in there kiddo. You still have some resources that haven't kicked in yet, right? From the support group services??? More info might well make the next round easier, use the dieticians advice, balance the good days with the bad, and TAKE THAT CODEINE!!!

Lesleyanne, I can totally understand the emotions of wanting so badly to be out in the mountains. You've had a huge surgery, and sounds like you're well on your way to getting back to things you want to do. Even though I've been out, my shoulders don't let me use my poles yet, so I haven't been able to do the "steep and deep" trails. I'm looking more like the "march of the penguins" with my arms just kind of hanging around at my sides. You'll get there girl, and I know you'll be giving a loud "I'm baaack" shout out when you do!

Liefie, cougars....shudder. Never actually seen one, but I know they're out there. Was on one trail a few years ago, late in the afternoon, not many others around, and I swear, I suddenly felt like I was being watched by something. Literally could feel the hair on my head stand up! Really glad to get back to the car that time, for sure. A couple days later, found out a cougar had been seen right in the area I had felt "watched". Yikes!!!!

Edi, car trouble makes me crazy. As soon as something even sounds or feels the least bit "different" I panic. Not an expert, but sounds like your cold weather might be draining some batteries over there! Wonderful to hear how good you're doing.

Benny, wear all your cowgirl gear tomorrow.  In addition to your boots, wear you belt, hat, etc.  And take pictures of you and your horse!  Good luck.

I wore all my gear (except hat) when I had my biopsy.  I didn't scare me as much.

Liefie, yes, you're right. I am famous for jumping ahead and need to concentrate on the here and now. Henning did say 'we'll cross that bridge when we come to it' so he's not ruling anything out. I truly think he is concerned about me.

Nihahi, yes, I have an upcoming appoinment with a doctor at the BCSCF on January 28. I saw two oncologists today and one of them mentioned a drug called Sucralfate (sp?) and that it coats the intestines. She wouldn't prescribe it today but said I can call in if it gets bad again and they'll phone in a prescription. I wish I could have it now tho' as I sure won't feel like going to the drugstore if I'm sick. Proactive is better than reactive!

Edi and Cowgirl, that's a great idea! I actually wore my cowboy boots and my Wrangler Booty Up jeans to the appointment today as it was warm enough. I don't know why I get strange looks.... after all, this is Calgary (Little Texas). Do you want me to wear my rhinestone cowgirl belt too? Like, the whole package? Cuz I will!

Benny, doubt they were funny looks more like jealousy. You wear the whole flippin lot ! I would even wear the hat but I am a bit of a poser Wink
Can't believe they won't give you the sucralfrate to have in ready but all being well you won't need it.
Have you sourced some yummy veggie baby type foods ? You need something tastier than spuds. Looked at them in our supermarket the other day and if my pipes kick of again I am filling my basket.Organic ones looked really nice.
Just try and go in with the attitude that this time" I will beat this sxxt " will be thinking of you. X

Benny, you go out there tomorrow and kick ass. I remember dressing up for chemo, hat with big purple rose and all, as if I wanted to show the world that I was not beaten, but ready for the fight of my life.

Nihahi, I actually prefer bears to cougars. At least they approach you upfront, and you see them coming, whereas a cougar will stalk you . . . Grrrrrr.

Benny I know if you read through the sept 2012 chemo girls almost everyone did the Taxanes and most found them easier than AC. Like liefie said the red devil is a nasty bugger....Take baby steps here, I think you can do it and finish your treatment, it may take a little longer but you will get it done. How do you know how your body will take to the Taxanes, just maybe your body will be okay. I can still see you riding through the fields this summer with that saddle pad that has so much meaning in the design. I also plan on seeing you for lunch on your way through to Burns Lake!...Take Care

Liefie I don't blame DH, cougars scare me too, we have had sightings in our area, so I always keep an eye out. I hope Your DH has some sensor lights near his garden...

We spent a week in Parksville on the water after my surgery and before chemo. It was beautiful, then drove up to Comox Kye Bay for a few days, ferry to Powell River and Gibsons, Whistler and home. It certainly gave me a new energy to get home and do chemo.

Benny are you able to tolerate, spaghetti squash or sweet potatoes, yams? They have a similar texture.

Everyone have a great Wednesday.....I will be doing #9/16 of rads tomorrow then doc appt. and off to chemo room for #3 herceptin....busy, busy!

Benny - Brand name is Carafate. It's an old medicine but effective. You would fit right in here in Cowtown. Come on down. From what I have read Adriamycin is very rough and Liefie is right they don't call it the "red devil" for nothing. Hopefully you will have fewer symptoms this time around.  It's hard to tell on here but I think you made it through this one better. At least you come across here better, more hopeful. So don't count the taxanes out yet. Did you get to spend time with the plush animal today? We had a surprise snowfall overnight. Weatherman expected light amounts further east but it started just west of us. Goats do not like snow, even to walk on it as it had stopped by the time they got fed. Heated them up water buckets which they do like. Oh and I'm envious. I couldn't even throw one hay bale much less 32.

Edi - sorry for the car troubles.  So glad you are SE free.

Carla - Hope your SEs have stayed minimal.

Websister - great your Muga scan was good. What can you do to build your hemoglobin? Eat spinach?  Hopefully your mom will get to go the lodge as planned.

Bearcub - Yeah, half way done.

Dakota - Treatment day tomorrow? In your pocket girl.

Lesley - yeah for getting the last drain out. I can't imagine going snowshoeing. You and Nihahi must have legs of steel.

Missing Traii, Caitlin who must be getting ready for her surg., Bevlee

hey, I did some reading back and listened to the Cheers song? Yes, everybody knows your name, except me whom I'm sure has left someone off.

DS and I just got back from shopping & lunch with my brother whos still on holidays had a great morning / arvo Laughing

Benny, Doctors have never had Tax so how does yours know you won't tolerate it, you are a cowgirl, a fighter and our sister hell yeh you cacn handle tax, like everyone says the red devil is the devil but its kicking C's butt so you will soldier through Tax, like bearcub says, baby steps and we know you can do it, who cares it takes longer than 'expected' but you can do it and we are all here for you Smile you better have big pockets tomorrow !!!!!

Dakota, just like Edi mentioned with the spag bol...easy peasy......I even add ricotta or even some chopped up bacon for extra flavour...you can add anything carrots too (sometimes I do so DS can eat them without even knowing) and before I know it his bowl is cleaned out ... don't even need to wash it....lol.

Lifie, Salmon dish sounds yum, I had a salmon pizza not long ago, had spinach and onions on it, was delish!! Even Salmon with pasta ......

Bearcub, half way through rads, congrats girl......on the home stretch now Smile glad no SEs from it. When I had rads 16 years ago, I never got any hair under my arms back....I was only 18 and only shaved from memory a few times and that was all ... haven't complained about that long term SE!!!!! My BS though was amazed at the damage my underarms got while on rads however they are my warrier trademarks.....that I'm a fighter and still am today.!!! I remember using corn starch under my arms as we couldn't use any deoderants....wasn't the same but hell it did the job !! lol

Websister, aunts pool tomorrow, 37 degrees here tomorrow, converted to 99f for you ladies.....and will be 77f overnight!!!

Nihahi, I haven't been watching the tennis but glad that when you get up overnight you have tennis to keep you occupied...lol .... nothing worse than laying in bed not being able to sleep.....(I just learn't now that I can count the steam train next to me and hope that I can fall asleep counting !!!)

Carlads, hope your SE's are still no show.

Lesley, glad you enjoyed that wine last night.....lol......damned if you do, damned if you don't , so yes my motto, in moderation...everything in moderation I guess!!

Caitlin, thinking of you today, hope all went well.

Enjoy your Tuesday......I'm going to go an marinate my chicken wings with some herbs that I bought from the shops....hubbys coming home to make a BBQ tonight .... (gotta love that )....quick pasta salad and dinners served !!

Traii - the wings last night sounded wonderful, enjoy the pool today and stay cool

Edi - glad you have your energy back. Your husband sounds a lot like mine, so nice of him to help out the neighbour with their car also. Enjoyed hearing of your GD's trip to London

Luvmygoats - keep those goats warm and dry, I'm with you, I don't think I could throw hay bales around either

Bearcub - woohoo!!!! Halfway. Back a few pages ago (this thread moves fast!!!) there was a story about hitting a moose. My oldest son was traveling with some friends after a snowboarding outing several years ago, it was dark and the roads were slippery. He says he heard the word 'Duck' (not sure if it means the same in all countries so here it means to 'get down'). He is a tall, big guy and this was a small Toyota but he managed to get under the dashboard just as the car hit an elk'. The elk's antlers came through the windshield right where my son had been sitting. The car was totaled but he was fine. The other three guys in the car said they hadn't told him to duck as they couldn't see the elk, didn't realize they were in danger.

Liefie - when we were on the island there was a cougar warning in one of the provincial parks we hiked in, I was constantly looking in the trees and over my shoulder

Dakota and Benny - in your pockets today. Benny, wow them with that rhinestone belt - might as well go all the way! Re: taxanes - as others said, I didn't have the gastrointestinal symptoms with them, if this is the main problem at the moment for you, you might just sail through treatment with one of them

Carlads - hoping you are over any side effects you may have been having and have some good weeks before the next treatment

    Caitlin - thinking of you

    Bevlee - miss you

Nihahi - today would be a great snowshoeing day, hope you are able to gets outside and enjoy it

My son is in the final game for his division for Minor Hockey week here in Canada after winning last night's game - guaranteed at least a silver medal, next game on Saturday afternoon.

My 10 1/2 month old grandson started walking yesterday, received a video of it, precious :)

Favorite moment of yesterday was watching the magnificent sunset with my 17 year old, wonderful memory, we had a good day together yesterday

    Take care everyone

    Hi Everyone,

Sounds like everyone is busy..  I think I have been pretty darn lucky..  SE's hit on Sunday night and I felt bad Monday and yesterday, mostly just this darn headache...  I am drinking water and mixing it up with sugar free Gatorade.  No nausea so that makes me happy.  Just super dry mouth and everywhere else too..  Mouth sores much better today.  I did leave a message for my Oncologist just to find out if there is anything else I can take for the my head.

Benny, you are so strong you can do this..  I agree with Traii, doctors have never had it and I know you can handle it!

Edi, glad you are doing better!

Websister, what a great day, hope mom is doing well too!

Dakota, Traii, Bearcub, Luv my,Liefie, Nihahi,Cowgirl, Lesley, love to you all!

    Caitlin, thinking about you!

I have to admit this isn't a "Rose Garden" but we all have each other..  So we are truly blessed!

    Love,

    Carla

Iiefie, COUGARS OMG !! love coming on here and cant believe what happens in the big wide world. Bears too, if we see a fox around here it is panic stations.
Did you try the salmon plus ginger and spring onion? I am like your DH most pasta makes me gag but weirdly mac cheese I love Laughing my DH loves fresh ( from the supermarket pasta and I have a tiny bit with loads of sauce.
How did the wholegrain bread go ?
Not sure if my chemo was from the same family as the red devil, it was epirubicin and known as Tizer by the onco nurses. That is a fizzy soft drink here and it defo wasn't that !
As it burns veins and causes some pretty nasty se's must look it up.x

Nihahi, hope physio went well and you are sleeping better ?
You are spot on about the cold and cars failing. New battery fitted and my little motor fires first time.
Hope our Benny kicked some ass today. x

Cowgirl, rhinestones yay, I love bling and hope Benny glittered in and socked it to them x

Bearcub, you are steaming along, so envious.
Sure you are right and can't wait for the report one day of your lunch with Benny.
Is the herceptin ok, my friend had it and no problems hope you are the same x

Dakota, you were in my thoughts today, hope all went well ?
Got one sample of wallpaper but I dont really like it so will have to look again lol x

Lesley, you enjoy that wine, as they say anything in moderation.x

Traii, lunch with bros sounds perfect, hope you got to the pool with that heat.
My bros best friend had non hodgkins about thirty years ago and he to used the cornstarch.
Chicken wings yum. we have just had dinner and now I could murder a bbq, think appetite is returning a bit.x

Websister, our DH's are lovely aren't they ? mine shot off to work after all the hastle yesterday and was still smiling. Must admit not usually so patient, this BC has changed so much about everyone I love.
OK ELK ! Now that is also fascinating and the duck order so wonderful and spooky. So glad he did as the voice said.
Lovely that the little one is walking, a really magical memory on video.
I often sit on the deck at the back and watch the most amazing sunsets. At this time of year love gazing at the moon in the clear winter sky and the star cirius or dog star. My GD is convinced our little yorkshire terrier lives there now and winks at us every nightx

Carla, sorry your head still hurting, the dryness everywhere is such a pain but it will ease.I spent the day in Liverpool shopping with my best friend and could have drunk the river mersey dry lol x

    Benny hope you ok ?

Luv each and everyone of you xx

Benny, you really look fantastic! Wow! Now kick butt and get well soon. My sincere wish for you is that you will tolerate this chemo way better than those that came before. In your pocket you have a whole bunch of fellow travellers cheering you on. Let us know how you are doing.

Edi, haven't made your salmon recipe or the wholegrain bread yet, but I will. Tonight I'm making your cabbage-onion-tomato dish. Also making Jamie Oliver's salmon fishcakes with the leftover salmon and a lemon yoghurt sauce to go with it.

Websister, must be so great to have grandchildren. I'm so jealous. You also seem to find the positive in every situation, no matter what. What a wonderful quality! Congrats on your son's hockey achievements too. Oh, and we did surprise Gideon with the car when they were here over New Years. He laughed his head off when he realized what was going on, and couldn't stop laughing for that whole day. He couldn't believe that his dad did that, and that we all kept it a secret from him for three months. That car is extremely loud, and you can hear it coming a mile away - lol.

Traii, Nihahi, Carlads, Dakota, Bearcub and all the others - hope you are all having a wonderful day!
