Can biopsies be wrong?

I received my intial DX of IDC Stage 1 in April of 2012 followed by a R breast lumpectomy and radiation.  Also had another lump removed in different spot on same breast that was not cancerous but advised it could become cancerous.  Did rads in Jun/Jul 2012.  In Nov 2012 I found palitable lumps in same breast, but different location.  Oncologist felt it as well sent me for ultrasound which turned into a biopsy.  Results were "Reactive Hyperplasia with Sinus Hystiocytes".  Doc brushed it off saying, nothing to worry about...benign lymph nodes.  She said probably due to an infection or something.  It is now Jan. and I do not have any known infections and the lumps are still there.  Can biopsies be wrong?  Should I go back in?  Anyone have this happen?

trujisj2 - I understand how concerned you are.  Lymph nodes can swell for a number of reasons.  Bacterial infection, viral infection, etc.  Your body can fight the infection for long past the initial problem.  With an allergic reaction it can take months for the body to stop reacting even though the exposure to the allergene is long past.  Viruses are much the same.

Yes, biopsies can miss something, but hopefully not in this case.  Maybe a visit to your PCP and/or RO would be a good idea.   The PCP to see if something is going on that is causing the lymph node swelling.  The RO because sometimes radiated breast tissue can present benign SEs.

Thanks so much. I'll give it a few more months and visit my PCP.
