Hi my name is Michelle and I have learned to stop looking things up on the Net....scares the crap out of you!  I am a three year 44 year old breast cancer survivor.  I had a lumpectomy, chemo and radiation ending December of 2009 and went back to work January 2010 and have been fine since.  About three weeks ago I noticed my breast (the one that had cancer) shrunk very quickly about two whole cup sizes.  Now I am extremely paranoid about any changes and such.  I have been to my doctor and I have called my Breast Cancer surgeon's nurse and both have agreed and set up a mammogram right away.  I go tomorrow.  I am scared to death.  Has anyone experienced this shrinking so long after treatments?  Can it be a side effect?

    hi mlhylands,

My breast shrunk markedly before diagnosis, it became a couple of cups smaller and the breast became distorted.

I think this was because the tumour was 'pulling' from the inside - if that makes some sense.

I think it is a good idea to involve your team and get a mammo. Hopefully it will be ok with nothing to worry about

I have also experienced decrease in volume of about 1.5 cup sizes due to dissipation of edema/fluids after treatment due to lymphedema massage.
