Size of indentation

I'm going in for the MRI tomorrow morning and will know the results the 16th.  I think the not knowing is what's driving me nuts so parden if I ask a lot of dumb questions as I try to grip where I am at.  But has anyone here had a very large indentation (nothing like a dimple more like a cave in) and when you got your pathology report what was your stage and grade of ILC cancer?  I'm curious if because mine is such a long/large indent if I have had it for a long time.  I know I could just wait and see what the test resuts show but I'm curious/anxious.  Though I have clamed down a lot in the last couple of days thanks to Brandon, friends who have been through breast cancer, and the people here on this message board.

I am sorry that I don't know. ILC is weird. In hindsight, my nipple had sort of flattened, but I didn't put two and two together.

Let us know what you find out.

I had an indentation over the lump, which was very mobile.  I googled and googled until I found someone that said it might be something other than cancer  -- wrong.   It was ILC 2.2cm.

    InTheWind,

Hope your MRI went well today. The beginning is just the hardest time but with each test comes information and with information you are able to build a plan. Once you have a plan in place things feel a lot less overwhelming...

One thing to keep in mind is, around here, the only dumb question is one not asked. So many people with so much hard earned information to share. Please feel free to ask your questions on these boards...

To answer your question... For the longest time I kept thinking I felt something in the shower but kept talking myself out of it. It was when I dropped my bra in front of the full-length mirror and bent over to pick it up that I noticed the indent that you described... Not a dimple but a large crease running from my nipple toward my armpit... When I stood up it didn't go away... uh-oh...

Diagnostic Mammo put it at 1.75 cm, Ultrasound basically agreed at 1.78 cm, MRI was similar in size estimation and did not see any additional areas of concern in either breast.

Final pathology after lumpectomy was 2.5 cm (so a bit bigger), 0/3 nodes affected. So stage IIa... Oncotype DX score was a 14 so no chemo advised...

Despite the size it seems like my cancer was one of the 'lazy' ones that, thankfully, wasn't in a rush to go anywhere. I think, looking back on it, that I had vague symptoms that I dismissed for roughly 3 years before I knew something was wrong so, yeah, I think it had been there awhile...

As for grade, the facility I used does not grade ILCs and said they usually are a grade 2... Don't know how comfortable I was/am with that answer but it does seem to mesh with my other results so who knows?!

I found this site to be a lifeline early on and I hope you do too... Things will get easier as you go....

I had a crease when I stood in front of the mirror and put my hands on my hips and flexed during my monthly breast exam.  I tried to talk myself out of what i was seeing for two weeks...then went back to my PC physician who set me up for an US, subsequent visit to a surgeon, and then the lumpectomy/confirmation.  The crease was right where the lump was--but probably not noticeable to anyone but me.  Frown

Not sure about grade as well--mine was graded 1, but it was a high 1. Stage II.

    Hugs*

I also had an indentation where my ILC tumor was.

It seems most people that have the indentation are stage 2 or higher. I wonder if by time it develops it's already advanced. I did my MRI yesterday but won't know anything until I meet with the doctor and oncologist the 16th.

same here... more of a dimple. it was more profound when I raised my arm. MRI said 2.2cm and final pathology had it at 2.8cm with node involvement. They staged me at 2b... I ignored that dimple for like 6 months. I was always taught to feel for lumps and weird looking skin. NOT DIMPLES. So, here I sit, 6 weeks post surgery, I have a new flat tummy, a left boob I cant feel b/c of reconstruction, multiple incision scars and 1 round of chemo in me.... but I AM ALIVE! And I will survive a long time. I'm 41 and I figure I have another 50 years to go!

I freaked out early on with all the tests and the 4 big words that loomed over me 'YOU HAVE BREAST CANCER'. I decided to fight and I realized I was going to be fine. I would need all this surgery and treatment, but, I would be fine. I didn't hesitate to start. When I found my answers I made decisions. And now, I am happy to have not waited to have surgery and treatment. I want to get all this overwith so I get back to living my crazy life.

Lean on your family and friends, thats why thye are there. I found out that they really dont know how to react or what to do for you. They absolutley want to help so just tell them what you need. I promise you, they will be there. Good Luck to you.

SkiGirl is your picture recent? You still have hair?

I've been eating like a pig lately.  I'm not fat persay but man am I hungry. I have a feeling a part of me is fattening up so they can use skin from my belly to make two new boobs Wink  The idea of having my butt on my chest is not appealing to me Laughing

My next door neighbhor had breat cancer, diffrent kind and stage 0, but she was able to do the skin sparring and she says her breast look wise are beautiful, that when she is 81 they will still be perky. But the loss of feeling for her is also a big saddness.

I had no lumps.  I had no indentation.  I had zero indication it could be cancer.

My breast surgeon said if I had come to him without the biopsy, he would have sent me home...my mammo and my ultrasound showed nothing.

No one could palpate anything.  Truly, if I did not have my weird dreams to insist on further checking (MRI finally picked something up and even when they knew where it was, I went back for needle guided biopsy with ultrasound, they could find nothing again.  Back to MRI and biopsy with the mri).

    I had beautiful, saggy breasts.

I hope your results are favorable and I am sorry you are joining us, but this place was, as someone said, a lifeline when I first got diagnosed.

    Hi

I have ILC I had no signs, no indications whatsoever. I had the mammos, lay on the table and want to scream biopsy (scream from fear and how uncomfortable it is not the procedure itself), results came back B9. Said it was just normal micro calcifications. They gave me the option of removing about a golf ball size around the area to just be sure, found out it was ILC but 4 mm which was very tiny. ILC is sneaky and I shutter to think if I wouldnt have done the surgical biopsy which now they are calling my lumpectomy. I am currently waiting like so many others and it SUCKS. As of now Stage 1a but no info on receptors has come back, node surgery 1/24. I am the opposite of you and just cant eat, no appetite. I guess our bodies react in many ways to this kind of news.

I wish you the best of luck. I notice by your pic your young also. ILC from what I have read is usually in woman 60+ although I dont think its rare for it to grab some of us too.

    Take Care

InTheWind- I had hair down past my bra strap. I cut it a few days after christmas. It's even shorter now. I went for a pixie cut last week. The next step is to have my DH take his clippers to it. This friday will be 14 days since my first treatment. I have one more week before my next treatment. Thats when everyone says it should start to fall out. So, I guess I am trying to avoid the small rodent size hairball in the shower drain... lol. I donated my hair to Locks of Love too. Some little kid will get to have a wig. I wouldn't want to be a little girl and go through chemo and loose my hair. I hope it helps. I have been chowing lately. I was told people gain weight on chemo and now I see why!! I am trying to behave myself, but, I want to eat the kitchen! Hang in there and stay strong!!
