Good decision Laurie! And I love how you give the boys some menu power after their disappointment about missing Dad for dinner. :)

Have two meals to make this coming week for families dealing with surgery, and a relative death. Anybody have a "go to" menu for such meals? I am always too ambitious in my efforts and it could be easy peasy, I'm sure!

Maybe a hearty stew for one family(whose Dad broke his hand while sledding with their 6 year olds)and Italian for my Italian friend who had a death in the family? Over choice reigns again in my brain...

Still so sad about Apple.....She does not belong with all of the octogenarians I know who are passing over this week. :(

Lacey- Italian always reheats the best.  Maybe stuffed shells or lasagna with a salad? Do a double batch of whatever you do and give it to both of them.  They won't know and it will make things so much easier for you.

So, While I was making the english muffin pizzas I decided to make a quiche too.  So easy.  I had my english muffin pizza, bribed the boys with a cookie if they ate all their dinner and cleaned up all their toys:)  Got them to bed and came down and had a slice of quiche.  Yum.

Thanks Laurie. And you are right about the reheating factor. We had Italian leftovers tonight which were twice as good as earlier in the week.

I happened to buy eggplant today so could make a lasagna with that and some roasted veggies I froze a few months ago....so it will be a bit more interesting than my usual lasagna. I think you are also right about making the same thing for both families. Not sure why I always think to do things the hard way. ;)

Loved the way you worked things out tonight......Smart Mama!

OMGoodness Debbie  You are having way too much fun!!

We were sooo bored last night  I really needed to get outta this house.  Went to  new wine bar where the tasting lady was from France and a totally professional wine enthusiast. Tasted some wines from all around the world....but my taste buds are still liking the Finger Lakes varieties.

I am on board for 6pm...but really I think of Michelle and everyone else here all the time.

Apple is now singing with the choir in the sky, as she used to say.

That's 3:00 pm for me here in California.

    I'm in.

    --

And I'm so very sorry to hear about Apple.  I just joined in October and don't think I've seen any of her posts but she is obviously a very important part of the fabric of the BCO.org community.

I'm reminded of the hospice poem...

    --

    Gone From My Sight

I am standing upon the seashore.  A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength. I stand and watch her until at length she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where sea and sky come to mingle with each other.

Then, someone at my side says, "There, she is gone!"

    "Gone Where?"

Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side and she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port.

Her diminished size is in me, not in her. And, just at that moment when someone at my side says, "There are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices ready to take up the glad shout: 'Here she comes!"

I just returned from a memorial service. One of the daughters of the wonderful man whose life we were honoring told us was how he described the way each of us lives on after death .......in the twinkle of others' eyes. Well, Apple herself had an incredible twinkle in her eyes, (along with her grace, talent and wisdom) and will live on with that in each and every one of us. In time, we will not be able to think of Apple without the corners of our eyes turning up. Peace to all who love and miss Apple.

I just got home and am able to type.  I was at a training meeting for my disaster response team when I saw the posting about Apple.  I just stood there in shock.  One of the team phsychologists came over to me and asked if I was OK.  I guess my sadness showed.

    Peace and love, Apple.

    Eric
