(3 sisters diagnosed within 11 months) "The View"

I was watching The View and three sisters had all been diagnosed I think at stage III BC and their mother had died from metastic BC. Their stories of course are detailed and personal. But one comment stood out for me, one of the sisters about ten years ago at the advice of her doctor, "suggested she have a prophylactic bilateral mastectomy." She didn't have a PBMX, but she said that she wished she could have followed her doctors advice. I was in tears over their courage and love for one another and the love for their mom, who they miss terribly. Sometimes a PBMX isn't that bad of an idea...

    I certainly don't think it's a bad idea!  My sister passed away in 2008 at the age of 43 and after a 5 year fight.  Next Thursday I will have a PBMX DIEP in Nola.  It's a no brainer to me (and my husband!). And, once I started considering it, I realized very quickly that if I didn't do it, and then got diagnosed, I'd have no one to blame but myself.

    I am in complete agreement with you! You must be getting ready for surgery, it will be easy peasy. My husband was in complete agreement also. Best wishes let me know how you are doing or if you have any questions when you are healing.

    My sister was diagnosed early 2012 and I was diagnosed October 2012... Very strange. No family history on either side. We both tested negative for the BRCA. I opted for bilateral mastectomy and she went for the lumpectomy with radiation. Who knows what the right thing is to do but I do feel better having gone all the way with both. Good luck to you all.
