Just diagnosed: Triple Negative Stage 1

Hello Everyone!

I am a 35 year old just diagnosed with IDC stage 1 triple negative. They think they found it early. Don't have the cancer gene, blood work looks good, breast MRI was good with no abnormal lymph nodes, mammogram was clear, chest X-ray clear. Getting a bilateral mastectomy next Monday. I will then start chemo 3 weeks after that. Is there anything else I should do? Anyone get their ovaries removed? My breast surgeon said there isn't a link between triple negative and ovarian cancer but wanted to see if anyone heard different.

    I was 48 and a half when I was diagnosed on Febuary last year. Similar to your diagnosis. Finished all treatments; Sergery, chemo--tcx4, and 25 radiations plus 5 booths. No ovary removed.We re different age then I have no idea about linking between bc and overian cancer in younger. Hope someonelse can give you ideas. All your results look good. For all treatments..it's doable..you can do that, same all of us. Drink a lot of water. Exercise regularly during chemo. You'll finish all before you know! You can talk to our knowledgeble, caring TNS sisters at " calling all tns" thread on Tripple Negative forum..  I read their posts often.Very useful, supportive...

    hello imcclure welcome to the land of positive lovely ladies that will guide and help you when they can.

    yes i intend to get my ovaries removed in the near future and it is sometimes recommended by oncs if you are trip neg lots of nodes and positive brca.  i dont want to risk it as i had a pretty average diagnosis & path report after mastectomy, now waiting for the brca -2 test results but regardless of that im will still have them removed.

    Hello Imcclure, 

    Nuan is right -all treatments are doable, and don't last forever.  Drink lots of water was advise given to me by a friend that survived (12 yrs out) ovarian cancer and saw her daughter though two years of chemo for leukemia (and she is now about to graduate as an oncology nurse!).  As well eat healthy, get excersice and rest lots.  Stay positive and surround yourself with like minded people!

    Hi Imcclure!

    Many TNBC patients will get the BRCA testing done, and let that guide them as to whether or not they have elective surgery for their ovaries.  This is because of a higher incidence of ovarian cancer if you have the BRCA gene.  There is more information on this at:  http://www.tnbcfoundation.org.

    Also, the researchers at MDAnderson strongly feel that TNBC breast cancer is more closely linked to ovarian cancer, than to other breast cancers.  You can find out more about this by researching the "MD Anderson Moonshot Project."  This is a great $3B Medical Project that was started last summer to find cures for 8 rare and difficult cancers to treat, and TNBC is among one of the cancers they will be targeting!  It is a 10-year project and they expect to be able to cut the death rate in half for TNBC patients within the next few years.

    Stay strong and positive, eat healthy and research the best diets for TNBC patients, so that you can come up with a great survivorship plan of your own.  Exercise is important, and also a low-fat diet is highly encouraged.  For a low-fat diet to be beneficial to TNBC, research is showing less than 30 grams of fat a day in our diets should be followed.

    I am a brca1 and had hormone positive bc in !999. then this year in Aug dx with a tnbc, but that is also common for brca carriers. Because of our family history with bc myself and 2 sisters, and I believe 14 of 16 family members checked for the brca  gene all carriers. So 6 years ago I did have my ovaries removed ,it is not easy to dx ovarian cancer until it is so advanced so because I was not using mine anymore I said get rid of them
