Yikes Michelle, 5 lbs in 2 weeks?  If you're trying to lose weight, it's hard to do that.  I widh I could help you out and give it back to youInnocent I hope those meds work for you.  And those doctors are full of s*&t if they think it's psychosamatic.  I am sure it is not.  That really makes me mad that they would say that to you.

Aloha Debbie!  Continue having a wonderful time!

Susan, I am thrilled to see you back too.

Thanks for the info on the fitbit  Carole.  I am due a b-day present, but I am not sure what I want.  I am thinking about the fitbit.

Michelle - Most health food stores have some version of ginger candies either hard or little chewy. Some can be kinda hot; you know how ginger can be. It might be worth trying out one or two. You'll have ginger fresh breath if nothing else.

When I was doing chemo, I lived on Campbell's chicken soups and peanut butter. Little else appealed. Michelle, I had iv aloxi only and did not have emend at all, which worked fine for me, although I also had zofran and ativan for breakthrough nausea. Did you have both (emend and aloxi) as infusions?

Kay - yep, 5 pounds and I wasn't even trying.  I did gain 3 pounds a cycle on Xeloda - it's all gone now and I'm back to my pre-diagnosis weight.  It was a rough go, though.  Nothing tasted good; and even if it did, there was no guarantee it was staying down.

So the anticipatory nausea is a real thing.  And psychosomatic was my interpretation of the diagnosis.  And it could be the problem, the brain suggests that you are going to get sick, and you do.  Some of the anti-nause meds work on the premise that they turn off those  reflexes in the brain.  That's why they work :)  I wasn't offended by the diagnosis and honestly, I see how it's possible.  The "power of suggestion" can be really strong and I found the diagnosis rather amusing!

We just checked into the hotel near the airport and DH has walked over to the mall for food.  No restaurant in this Courtyard but several nearby and one that delivers.  Given my delicate stomach, he's heading to Panera.  I like the Fuji Apple salad with chicken so hopefully it's still on the menu.  And unsweetened iced tea.  Not sure why this tastes so good, but it does.  Maybe because it's not sweet at all - this 44 year old habit of diet soda is almost broken.

Oh, those anti-nausea scopolamine patched - $5 each, lasts for 3 days.  They'd better work!

Michelle, I hope the Panera salad agreed with your tender tummy, and that you have a good trip tomorrow, feeling well. Say Hi to Joyce!

Are you at the Hyatt East Boston? I have a funny story to relate about DDIL and her mother and I looking at that hotel for a wedding venue. They have the most beautiful view of the Boston skyline, however, there were a couple of pilings in the water that were right "in the way" which disturbed DDIL's mother since she was really into having the perfect pictures, and harbor atmosphere be damned. So she decided that they could remove the pilings for DDIL's wedding. You know the end to that story! ;)

I never made the chicken soup today, but did make the whey bread. Glad to know I can use the whey and the bread turned out great, even tho I rushed it a bit. ;) Next time I'll try the whey with my quick French bread recipe, since I like that texture better than this basic white bread.

    Enjoy your evening everyone....

michelle - here is a link to the GinGins at World Market.  I know there is not one in our area - I am familiar with them from living in Washington, D.C., but you can order these candies online.  I also drank ginger peach tea, which seemed to help.  Be careful with Zofran as well - I got a wicked headache from it.

susan - good to see you back and talking about FOOD!

Michelle, chicken soup worked for me too. So did very very Sharp cheese like a Dublin cheddar or even parmesan! A couple bites tasted real good. Maybe its the salt. The only thing I could drink throught my tx was unsweetened ice tea. I am glad I am through with tx now and still like.it. but when water tasted so bad, the ice tea came through. Just be sure to add lots of ice to dilute it. Much love. I hope something helps.

Michelle- Yay for finding something that agreed with you.  I hope the anti nauseau meds did their job and you are feeling better and able to enjoy yourself.

Debbie- LOL at your bar story!!!  Have fun!!

The antibiotics are making my belly feel yucky.  At least it only seems to be for an hour or so after I take them, too bad it is three times a day.  At least my ears don't feel hot anymore.  So I guess it is something.  This morning I brought the boys for a play date at an indoor play center.  It was with a friend of DS#1 from school, I had never really talked to the mom before, she was really nice.  It's funny how we as adults have to make new friends when the kids like each other.

Last night we had grilled chicken sandwiches with mushrooms and onions.  DH said he had a craving so he made it for us.  I am dragging a bit this afternoon with not feeling great so I am going to do something super easy.  Chicken breasts with a can of cream of chicken soup and some sour cream poured over it and topped with stuffing.  About 2 minutes prep time and pop in the oven.  Haven't made it in forever.

Hope everyone had a great day!

Carrie- I hope you are feeling better too.

Sorry for anyone I missed- I read last night and was too tired to post :)

Michelle, yes, the candies are made with ginger.

I just looked in the archives at your old post re: where you're headed - there are Cost Plus World Markets in Naples, FL, Estero, FL and Fort Myers, FL (not sure if any of those cities will be along your travel route - they're all north of Marco Island).  On the side where you are now the closest is in Melbourne, FL.

    Store locator:

I hope this finds you feeling better following your Panera dinner!

Laurie  thanks I am feeling so much better but still have a water filled right ear, that I cant hear anything out of! So frustrating! I have tried all the usual meds and ear drops but nothing is working.

Made a large goulash casserole that will hopefully give us leftovers for the weekend. I am knee deep in recovering a chair and I dont like to stop to have to cook dinner. I was given this chair when a friend of mine moved from her old farmhouse....I think it was her grandmas.  Iliterally had to take it down to the bare bones and start from scratch, but its gonna look modern and nice when done.

Michelle   hope you are feeling well with little of that nausea.  Compazine was my drug of choice but it made me tired and zonked me out...not good if your travelling and trying to have fun.

Tomorrow supposed to be 55 degrees  wahoo!  Sister and I are headed to the park to walk.  I have not been outta the house (except for the dr. appt) in 2 weeks!!

Carrie, I'm impressed that you can upholster a chair.  Enjoy your walk in the park tomorrow!

    What's in a goulash casserole?

Laurie  Funny reading those suggestions as I had just read about how onions have the ability to absorb whatever your illness is if you leave a cut one on your bedside table...ha ha not sure if I could sleep with the onion smell in my room.

Carole  Dont be too impressed, this is only my second time doing this and I totally wing it!  I will try to post some pics when its done.  Goulash is macaroni (I use sm elbows or shells) cooked ground beef with onions and garlic added and mixed with pasta sauce, top with mozz cheese and bake for about 30 min at 350 deg  Sometimes I sautee up peppers with the ground beef.

carberry - sounds a lot like the dish my MIL would make for the kids (5 children in a 7 year span - including a set of twins) when she and my FIL were going out for the evening - she called it Mulligan Stew - same ingredients but not baked, without cheese.

Michelle, if you can't find the ginger candy, small pieces of crystallized ginger will work as well. You can find that in most large supermarkets, although it will be more expensive than the candy. Personally, I found the candies too peppery for my taste, but did have better luck with Anna's Ginger Thin cookies.

Isn't it wonderful that so many of us are grieving for Mary and most of us know her only on these forums at bc.org.

    More rain today.

Tonight will be a hotdog at the New Orleans Hornets (pro basketball) game.  We're going with another couple who arranged for the tickets.  It's Family Night with a lower ticket price that includes a hot dog, drink, and chips!  They're picking us up so dh won't have to drive.  He gets sleepy driving back home across the 24 mi. long Lake Pontchartrain Causeway at night.

Nausea so much better today, but the ativan is sending me to bed early.  We were up at 3;45 a.m. so we'll sleep well tonight.

JoyceK and her hubby have a lovely B&B here in

I guess I forgot to post this last night.  I slept until 7:15 after going to bed at about 9.  And I feel great this morning.  Yippee!!!

Michelle I'm so glad you are feeling better

I just read about Apple in the posts above.  It makes me sad and I will miss her although I know not as much as those around her.  They are in my thoughts.  She has inspired me to continue playing music more and to try to be more creative, as well as to look on the bright side.  I know that she has improved the lives of many and left a legacy for many more who never even met her.  I will pray for solace for her family and friends.

Michelle- Sorry to hear you are have such bad nausea I love ginger and it does help with nausea I didn't care for the candy ones but bought and still do pickeled ginger which can be found in most supermarkets . They have a restraunt here in waikiki called Indigo that has awesome ginger. Hope your having a fun time.

Waiting for my sister to pick me up for lunch and going to the ala moana mall. The night before last Sheraton had a huge party put on by Silapta it's silver jewelry, met a couple earlier that day that gave us a band to get into it, almost 2,000 people there and crazy fun they closed off all the bars and pool areas just for them they had rented 900 rooms they had lobster, crab, chocolate fountains and huge bubbles in the pool with people in it, took some pictures from my room after we came back up so will try to post them all when I get home. Dh says he hasn't decided yet when we are coming back we are booked till the 20th but told him I don't want to stay that long, so still not sure at this. Still havt seen my best friend that lives here she doesn't even know we are here I think I will pop in today and surprise her at work she has a place at the international market place where she does fake tattoos.

Hope all those not feeling well get better sending you all hugs.

Went to lunch today with 3 other women from our Friday golf group.  We figured if we couldn't play golf with all the endless rain, at least we could get together.  I split a sandwich with one of my friends.  It was grilled salmon and was very good.  The side was fried sweet potatoes.

It has been pouring down rain this afternoon.  Am not looking forward to going to New Orleans in this weather but you make plans ahead of time with no crystal ball.

Debbie, that sounds like quite a party.

Michelle, glad you got a great night's sleep.

Michelle- Glad you got a good nights sleep and are feeling well.  I hope both continue for you.

Carol- Lunch out with girlfriends sounds wonderful!  Glad you had fun.

Did bunches of stuff I didn't want to do today- grocery shopping, errands, cleaning, vacuuming and did my brothers books for his business.  At least I accomplished a lot.  Dh is working late tonight so the boys and I are on our own.  They are always sad when I say Daddy won't be here and then happy when I tell them they can pick thier dinner.  DS#1 has requested left over spaghetti and sauce and DS2 wants english muffin pizzas.  I have no idea what I will have.  I think maybe I will have english muffin pizzas too....
