Brandie- I sure hope for B9 results for you! We are here for you. I am adding your date to the list.
-
I had a pre-op appointment this afternoon. This upcoming surgery is starting to feel more real every day.
My BS and PS both gave me the okay to get my tooth pulled, as long as I do it ASAP since my surgery is still 9 days away. I am seeing a dentist tomorrow and they will take payments so that is a very good thing.
-
JRMH, good news that you can get the tooth fixed, but sorry you have to have an extraction. Like we need another thing to worry about. I broke a toe a few days before my surgery, it drove me nuts.
Pleased to hear they will take payments too, you sure don't need money hassles too.
I understand about the Pre Op making it "REAL", same for me!
Take care!

Hello ladies!!!! I have been going back and forth thru this thread and finally decided to post about surgery. I have IBC, stage IIIb, no mestastisis from my prior PET scan early on before chemo. So i'm done with chemo, and saw my surgeon yesterday andam scheduled for dbl. Mastectomy on 1/17/2013, which is next thursday. I am having a modified radical mastectomy on my right side and a simple mastectomy with sentinel node biopsy on left side. Has anyone been thru this? If so, is there any advice, comforting thoughts, information that u can share with me. What to take to hospital, post-op and post-op at home to make things easier and heal the wounds....all advice would greatly be apprecited.
Also, wishing everyone undergoing surgery, post-op, or at home the very best and a speedy recovery.
I am trying not to be nervous about it but cant help it....it gets to me -
I would like to add my thanks to the ladies who have just had surgery who are sharing their experiences, everyone in my world is amazed at how calm I am at the prospect of my BMX happening a week from today. I try to tell them how wonderful you all are here. It is helping me stay positive. When my adoptive mom died when I was fourteen years old, I didn't know how I would make it through life without the example, advice and guidance of women. Only male relatives were around me. One by one, women came into my life and became my village. It is important to have this village. Thanks for sharing your journeys.

Hello everyone!!! Surgery went great and I'm resting up right now. Only took like 3 hrs. Got pretty sick from the anesthesia and threw up, I'm sore, I'm hungry but all in all, I'm in pretty good spirits! Now that surgery is over, a whole new waiting game begins.
Hope my surgery buddies are doing well and tomorrow's ladies are relaxed. Good luck tomorrow girls -
Welcome back, "After-Surgery-Mimirpanda."
-
Mirmirpanda,
So thrilled to hear you're back and doing well! So knew you would "Kick Ass!" girl!
More happy dancing for me!
You are all amazing! Hope everyone else recovering after the surgery is doing as well.
Enjoy the rest, and let us know how you're doing.
-
suzilla- Welcome to our group. You and I are "surgery date buddies"! I added your name to the list.
-
Mirmirpanda- So glad that you are doing well! Thanks for letting us know!
-
Mirmirpanda, you go girl!
-
Thanks Jen and Lmimp64. Definitely have had feelings anticipating tomorrow's surgery but mostly feel ready and very honestly, encouraged, by those of you who've already come through.
Knitlady, interested to hear that you came home without a drain. I'm having the same procedure, but right side, so we'll see. My surgeon never said anything about a drain. I hope I get lucky without one, too.
Sending love and affirming smooth sailing to my Jan 9 sisters: Josie123, Lmimp64, Jebdra and DivaRedefined! Tomorrow evening, we'll have this step behind us! -
Good vibes to all that have the big day tomorrow! I am also sending prayers... I am so greatful to all of you who have shared your updates.. The wait has begun for me and the anticipation sucks!

Prayers for those who face surgery tomorrow and for those who are recovering

Jen, so glad that you have your tooth problem solved. You really didn't need that right now.

Just a question ladies. So I had the tracer injected into my breast before surgery and even hours later dye didn't really make it to the nodes!!! Wtf?!
So my surgeon ended up cutting a large chunk of tissue an nodes out to be tested and said that it could mean the nodes have cancer. She thinks she cut a large enough portion out, but who knows. Now, depending on the pathology report, I may need radiation therapy too
And I'm even MORE worried about mets!!! Argh!!!
Can anyone chime in on this? Experiences? -
Hi Mir, I have heard of this happening.
When I went in for my tracer the fluid didn't flow at first either. I was put in a room and told to massage for about a half hour. I went back in and had another scan, still not showing the node, back again for more massage, I think there was one more lot of massage and finally it showed up in the scan.
I was talking with the operator the whole time, and he told me that some people have no problem with the tracer, where in others it doesn't show up easily.
I know it is really hard, but try not to freak out and start worrying again you need to start healing. One step at a time. There is nothing definite here, waiting for the Pathology results is just another step in this awful process. You will likely see the Surgeon again soon, ask her for a better explanation about her statement.
Try to focus on the positive, you are through the surgery and doing well. The next part will happen in due course, we are all here for you, keep us informed.

Suzilla, here's a link to a board with a lot of good information on prep. http://community.breastcancer.org/forum/91/topic/699896.
If the link does not work, go to the main page for the discussion boards, go to tests, treatments and side effects, third board down, surgery - before, during and after. There is a thread on shopping/packing/to do list.
I hope this helps. -
Hi Jan sisters! Am counting days 1/23 lump/sn. MRI tomorrow. So thankful for all the info shared. This was not part of my planned journey to 60. Plan to kick it & make family trip to Coasta Rica for my dad's big birthday bash in late March. Maybe not the zip-line...
Expecting all the best for all -
Boy, do I know where you are coming from RMlulu. I wasn't expecting this just before 60 either.
Coasta Rica sounds like a plan! All the best!
-
on my way to the surgery center.
-
Good luck to all those enduring today!
Mirmir, I had a similar issue. My dye never showed up in nodes either, even after lots of massage. My surgeon took an area of tissue as he described it in the area. Hoping the path shows nothing for us both. -
Best to all for today!
-
Hi MirMir and JoJo~
The way my BS explained it to me was there is approx a 30% chance that the dye will not travel to any nodes, and then she would just take a section of nodes to test. The way she said it made me think that if it didn't travel to the nodes, there was less chance of cancer in the nodes...but this was just my understanding. My dye traveled to 2 separate nodes that were both clear (thank God). I should have my pathology report tomorrow at my dr. appt. It's interesting that I am not stressing about it at all, just curious!
Tami

RMlulu- I added you to the list. Coasta Rica sure does sound awesome!
Continued prayers and healing thoughts to today's gals and tomorrow's also (destiny, trailer, CookieMonster).
Got my tooth pulled this morning. It wasn't bad at all. She told me to just take it easy today so that's what I plan to do!
-
Hey Tami & JoJo
Thanks for the posts. Well I'm glad to know I'm not the only one. The way my surgeon explained it made it sound like I have a higher chance of cancer in my nodes. I'm hoping it was my groggy drugged up mush brain misinterpreting the all the post surgery info. Just can't wait to get my hands on that pathology report!!! Still awaiting bone scan results as I still have that pesky lower backache. Should have a PET scan soon too.
Feeling pretty good today. A little sore, like bruised, but good. Only took 2 T3's for pain this morning. Getting up and around pretty well. They took out my IV and I'll be leaving to go home in just over an hour. Can't wait to see my baby!!!
For all those worried about the surgery part, it's a breeze the worrying is the WORST part, all that anxiety!!! I'm the BIGGEST sissy and it honestly wasn't terrible at all!!! -
JRMH.... Update for surgery dbl mx with TEs and ALND right side. Not sure on date yet. Hope your tooth feels better soon!
Mirmirpanda.... So glad your doing great and will be home soon. Ahhh the comforts of home! Thanks for calming our fears... -
Suzilla, one thing I have found very useful since I've been home is a box of alcohol swabs. They are great to use when stripping your drains. They serve a two-fold purpose. First, they make it easier to slide your fingers down the tubing. Secondly, since drains and tubing are a port of entry for germs, the swabs also disinfect the drains. I use them to also clean the stopper thing if I have touched it when opening it to drain. Please do not use lotion, as lotion harbors germs.
Mirmirpanda, your sentiments about the waiting being worse than the surgery was exactly right!
My recovery is continuing to improve daily. It is rainy here, so in order to get my walking in, I have to go from kitchen to back bedroom and back. It's boring, but it serves its purpose! I make these rounds several times a day. Hopefully this will help to get the anesthesia out of my system.
Destiny71, trailer trash and Cookie Monster...I will pray for you all tomorrow. -
Peanutsgal... Great advice! I shall stock up!
