IDC in Florida, newly Dxd, need referrals :-)
Hi Everyone. I live in Davie, Florida. It's a suburb of Ft. Lauderdale, but I am not too far from Miami. I'm presently being evaluated at Memorial Breast Cancer Center. I feel like I'm getting reasonable care, but I want to make sure I am finding the best team of people. Anyone in South Florida have any referrals they would like to share? Thank you in advance :-)

After meeting with different dr's I decided on UM. My surgeon Dido Franceschi was excellent (my chemo nurses told me they would pick him), BUT he has zero bedside manner. I highly recommend my oncologist Dr. Reshma Mahtani, she works with Dr. Vogel at the Deerfield location. She is young (for me that worked, she understood me more), so if that bothers you I would go with Vogle. He is highly regarded in the field and specializes in breast cancer. I went to Deerfield for both Chemo and radiology and had a good experience with all nurses and techs. My radiologist was Dr. Freedman, loved her.
I also would recommend Gilda's Club in Fort Lauderdale. It was a great place of support for me and my fiancé. If you have any questions please feel free to pm me. It is very overwhelming the amount of choices and decisions you're expected to make while dealing with the diagnosis itself. Wishing you strength during this time. -
Thanks so much guys!
I've heard about Flores, but also heard Rosenbaum does the most down here.
And Renee, are you speaking from experience of tattooing women who've had DIEP surgery?
Thank you Sunflower :-) Any daytime support groups? Nighttime meetings - like Gilda's Club - would be tough for me. -
Yes I do the tattooing for Dr Flores....
Flores is the guy.....if you want to PM me please do....

Hi,
Diagnosed with IDC and looking for Surgical Oncologist in Tampa, FL area. Any one heard of Dr. John M. Cox (Tampa) or Dr. Jonathan Lohrbach (Wesley Chapel, FL)? I' d appreciate referrals from Tampa area.
Thanks so much, Bougain

bougain - I actually used Dr. Charles Cox, brother of Dr.John Cox, but have several friends who have used Dr. John Cox and loved him. I have one good friend who was single at the time of treatment so I went to all of her appts with him, and got to know him - he's great, wouldn't hesitate to endorse him. He works very frequently with my plastic surgeon for reconstruction also - she enjoys working with him as well. I am unfamiliar with Dr. Lohrbach and I live very close to Wesley Chapel, and know quite a few breast cancer patients locally - but have not heard of him.

SpecialK, I cannot thank you enough for your prompt reply and input regarding Dr. John Cox. I've heard of the brother, Dr. Charles Cox through the biopsy coordinator of Tower Radiology and Dr. John Cox was her surgeon. It seems these guys are good. I'll make an appt to see either one of them. I start feeling sense of relief knowing I'll be in good hands.
Thanks again and God bless. (bougain)
