    Thanks Hopex3!

    Just found out last Friday that I am done, no further treatment required. By going the Mx route I avoided the Rads, and I don't need Chemo or Tamox either.

    I am so happy to hear from both AuntieEm and Temi! U girls are amazing! Way to show us how it's done! So thankful ur surgeries went well (with minor med problems) ;(

    I was feeling very strong and ready then I had my pre op and got terrified! Hospitals scare me. I've been trying to stay busy and not think about it. Cleaned and organized my kids room, simplified their toys, remodeled their room, organized my room. Got all packed up for the hospital stay ;)

    I feel much better now. Reading ur girls' post made me feel strong and in control again. I'm ready! Wishing u a speedy recovery. The worst is over. ((Hugs))

    Scatsm, peanutgirl, jojo2373, and knitlady...I am sending u my positive thoughts and prayers! We can do it!

    Good luck to everyone having surgery today!  For those recovering...thanks for sharing your stories! It helps those of us waiting. Smile  Of those of you who have had your surgeries.....were you completely wrapped when you got home, and if so, at what point do the bangages come off?  Wondering when to expect the shock of seeing myself like that.  I actually think losing my hair has been the worst, but my sister-in-law (9 yr survivor) said that it was harder to take than she thought it would be. Just going to be wierd. Right now, my boobs are the enemy, so I don't care that they're going away.....I've already said my good-byes. LOL I see my BS on Thurs to get the details, and hopefully a surgery date.  Last chemo is Wed. Yay!!!!!! ~Andrea   PS-for those just starting the journey, it is MUCH better when you start on your path & you know what the plan is. Keep the faith that we CAN get through this!!

    Can only speak from personal experience, and I am in Australia.

    My Surgeon took off the heavy bandages the following morning of my op. I was left with just the clear plastic adhesive dressing and the drain. I went home that day just with that dressing on. I could shower with my back to the water flow with that waterproof dressing.

    I too had completely disengaged from the offending breast. The night before my op I told it that it had let me down so it had to go! I have had no emotional attachment at all. I also didn't have any problem seeing the wound.

    My only reservation was showing my husband, don't know why, he's amazing. He just said "wow, that will heal to nothing, and you don't need two boobs to be gorgeous!" He's a keeper!

    Hi again~



    I think that the discomfort that I feel is from the expanders. It feels more like muscle soreness...like from a heavy workout. There is an occasional stinging pain where one of my drains goes under the skin. I am taking Norco and Motrin....alternating. I also have an antibiotic. They prescribed a muscle relaxer if needed and I haven't needed it yet.



    When the nurse changed my dressings I felt a chill and felt like my (nonexistent) nipples were puckering up....that was a little weird feeling!



    BTW my plastic surgeon explained something about my TEs...they come filled with air, and she likes to insert them with the air in them because the air is lighter than saline and it allows the skin to heal. Then when it is time to fill, she will remove the air and start the fills...probably in 2 weeks. I will see her Friday though. It's nice looking down and seeing a little projection and cleavage. She also wants me to spend part of the day with the bra unzipped to let everything breathe, so I've been having it unzipped about half the day.

    Good morning all. it's 5:30 AM and I am about to go to the hospital for my 7:30 BMX w/out recon. I woke up at 3 and have been wandering around the house and finally turned on the computer and started reading some of your posts. I can't tell you how much it calmed me down. Tami, I was so glad to hear you had an easy (ish) time. Keeping my fingers crossed for the same. I will post when I can, but in the meantime, good luck to all who are also scheduled for today....see you on the other side!

    Jebdra - Thank you so much for your kind words. I really appreciate it.  When I was first dx, the one thing that kept me going was knowing that so many women had walked this path before me and were there to take my hand, and that someday I'd be able to do the same for others.  I'm glad that I was able to put that feeling into words and that they helped.

    Wishing everyone the best - still waiting for a call on my surgery date. Had MRI on Thursday - assume that's what they are waiting on. It helps knowing that others have been in a waiting game - nearly three weeks since my diagnosis and I'm coming unglued. I should be more worried about what the surgery will find but right now I just want to get started.

    Best of luck to all going in this week - and congrats to those who are done and on the mend.

    Kkuziel, I know how you feel. I am 2 months and 5 days from the doctor telling me I had cancer. The wait gave me way too much time to think. My surgery is Wednesday. The build up has been awful, and today I am so nervous about the future.

    Hello ladies.... I decided to join this thread. My surgery wont be till Feb since my last chemo is Jan 16th two weeks whoohoo!

    I was dx in August and that set the path for 16 chemo treatments. Ouch! We decided to do chemo first since my tumor was so large 7.9 cm I was hopeful for a lumpectomy. At this point my tumor is non palpable which is Amazing but I have had time to think it over and im 90% sure I'm going for a skin sparing mastectomy (dbl) I am only 34 and my family history of cancer in general is very long not to mention I am 3xs positive rasing my chances of recurrence even more :(

    So this sets gotta go!

    I speak with my BS and an additional PS tomorrow I have many questions for them.

    To all of you who are having surgery today or just make it thru it..... Heres to mininal pain and a quick recovery!

    Hello, everyone! Surgery went great! Pain is minimal and I am in my room. Dr.s said everything went perfectly. I've already been up to restroom and had a little snack. Trust me when I say this is so not me after surgery! Will post a little later and let you know all the ins and outs of hour my day has been. To all you ladies who have surgery tomorrow, it truly is doable! Prayers and well wishes going out for you tonight and in the morning! It is definitely a good feeling to have this behind me! Tomorrow will soon be over for you as we'll!

    Lmimp64- that awful.  As one of your "sisters-of-the-day" - I can't imagine having to wait that long.  I was dx on 21/12 - so only 2 and a bit weeks for me and that's been bad enough.

    Pam - that's really great - congratulations.  It's so good everybody telling us that it's not as bad as we've feared.

    Congrats peanutsgal...I hard a harder time, but not by much. Too whacked out on dilaudid to explain tonight, but will do so tomorrow. Right now my pain is controlled and I'm ready to try to sleep. Changing the drains hurt so much on my chest wall...didn't like that one bit. Was able to walk to bathroom, eat a very small dinner and will go home tomorrow afternoon!

    I'm having a bilateral mastectomy with immediate reconstruction (tissue expanders) on 1/11. I have a 1.5cm IDC in the left breast but because of my age and the fact that I'm HER2+, I have opted to remove both breasts for my best chance at a long, relapse-free life. I'm only 25 and very nervous. I don't yet have any children, and am sad to lose the option to breastfeed. 

    Can anyone tell me what to expect when it comes to recovery?

    Runner we are sorry that you are having to face this when you are so young but we are all here for you and wish you all the best. There isn't a person on here who has not suffered serious panic and many bad moments but as you move further in your treatment you will find that the panic subsides and you get more focused on the job ahead. You can do this and we welcome you to our group.

    Runner...Bless your young heart! Keep reading this thread as a few of them have had surgery recently and they can give you an idea what to expect. We Are for you as you go through this journey. Unfortunately, life throws lemons at us for some reason, but luckily we have each other to get us through. Hang in there...it's very emotional at first, but once things get going, you will relax more. So, as we say here, put on your big girl panties and fight like a warrior!

    Oh my goodness runner, I am so sorry that you have had to join this club, but also glad you found this place for information and for support.

    Many people will rally round you and answer your questions. Just know that you have made the right decision for you and your family, and that the surgery is so refined these days you will do well.

    We know it is a fearful emotional time, and you are just so young. Ask anything you want, there are some who have just had the same surgery you will have, I am sure they will be along soon to let you know how well they are doing.
