Cancer Quotes and thoughts

I read this on another board...
I don't like it when someone refers to cancer as "The big 'C'" or when they speak of it in a whisper. I've always felt like doing these things is giving in to this hateful disease, acknowledging its power, almost a show of respect.
Cancer doesn't deserve any respect. We need to shout about it; say the word not just out loud, but loudly; bellow in its face! We need to fight back by letting everyone know that, while cancer may have a hold on our bodies, it cannot take hold of our hearts and our spirits because we simply will not allow it.
We need to give "The big 'C'" new meaning.
"The Big 'C'"
by Kathy Cawthon, Survivor

The big C I heard someone call it.
Another just whispered the word.
That we dont even dare to say cancer out loud
Gives it power it doesnt deserve.
So Im giving that letter new meaning
And refusing to give in to fear.
Im reclaiming the power for you and for me
By saying these words loud and clear:
Let the "c" be for cure and compassion.
Let it stand for the candles we light
And a chorus of voices shouting You 'can'!
To all who will take up this fight.
Let the "c" be for cash contribution.
Credit or check will work, too!
Let it stand for commitment and check-ups and cheer
And the children counting on you.
Let it mean that we know our Creator
Is beside us each step of the way,
And remind us to call on His strength and His love
And to celebrate every new day.
To everyone facing this challenge,
I say its a fight we can win.
Tell all who will listen that, starting today,
The "c is for COURAGE, my friend.
Hugs and God Bless,

Sometimes in life
you will go on a journey
It will be the longest journey
you have taken
It is the journey to find yourself

Remember, we all stumble,
every one of us.

I've just read all of these and feel like I could climb a mountain. And I will!! Thanks for posting so much inspiration. I'm going to compile most of these (who am I kidding, it will be ALL) in the most beautifully covered and bound journal I can find and keep it by my bedside. And many will be sent to friends. It isn't just those of us w/bc who need inspiration -- our families and friends need it too.

Fear of The Dark...
Cancer is often like a childhood fear of the dark. When we first find ourselves within its blackness, its emptiness; we are afraid of the unknown it may contain. But as we grow and learn we realize that it is not the darkness that we should fear, but rather our own thoughts.
The more time we spend within the darkness, the more light there is. Just as our eyes grow accustom to the lack of light, our minds also grow accustom to the fear of cancer with the gaining of knowledge.

Don't wish me happiness
I don't expect to be happy all the time...
It's gotten beyond that somehow.
Wish me courage and strength and a sense of humor.

THE HEART OF THE SOUL...
As metal is forged by the fire
so to is the heart of the soul
made stronger by all of your trials
as you strive to accomplish your goals.
Its so easy to smile when your winning -
when fortune is going your way
but character comes from the struggles of fighting lifes battles each day.
Nothing is real until tested
you never know what you can do until when the odds are against you
you still find the strength to pull through.
So never back down
from the fire while striving
to reach for your goal.
The trials you face on your journey
will strengthen the heart of your soul. TOM KRAUSE

Patti -
And while it takes courage to achieve greatness, it takes more courage to find fulfillment in being ordinary. For the joys that last have little relationship to achievement, to standing one step higher on the victory platform. What is the adventure in being ordinary? It is daring to love just for the pleasure of giving it away. It is venturing to give new life and to nurture it to maturity. It is working hard for the pure joy of being tired at the end of the day. It is caring and sharing and giving and loving
Marilyn Thomsen
Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgment that something else is more important than fear.

When I read this made me cry ~
"When I was afraid that I might die I don't remember worrying if everybody liked me. I do remember wondering if I liked me. I like me just fine now"!

It makes you cry because it's the truth. The plain and simple truth.
Once cancer comes to call you really begin to realize your self worth, your self value. And that it does get to "be about me" for a change.

Weeding ~~~~
Many things love to come and live off your plants, including bacteria, bugs, birds, and bunnies. If you
don't control them, entire crops can be ruined. The result of your careful cultivation, in your garden
and in your life, can be lost to predators in a short time. ... Take a look at your life, what toxic
relationships, substances and emotions are feeding on your energy and taking away from what
you have to give to others. Eliminate them.
- Vivian Elisabeth Glyck, 1997

I cannot believe that the purpose of life is to be happy. I think the purpose of life is to be useful, to be responsible, to be compassionate. It is, above all to matter, to count, to stand for something, to have made some difference that you lived at all.
