    Suze..what vitamins are you taking?   I take flaxseed, milk thistle and some more..but I'm thinking that milk thistle is supposed to help with the cancer cells...  but MJB knows more about this than I do...

    Are there any news about celecoxib ( I don't know if it has the same name in the USA)? There are currently some studies running with this medication in my country, but my mother's oncologist says that there are no results yet. Thank you

    MBJ...yes the milk thistle is for the liver and I do take it for my poor liver's health..however, I heard that milk thistle also keep cancer cells from ..don't know a better word for this...from sticking together to form a tumor...have you heard this?

    OK, I have to ask... I've been on this site since March and still don't know what "Bump" means.  Embarassed    Oh, and I take 2,800 mg of D3 and try to run more but it's getting cold outside so I guess I have to go down to the basement and hit the elliptical.

    Thanks Meggy.  I never would have guessed that "Bump" meant that. Smile   That is great.  I agree that we need to keep this one up front so we can find it easily.

    You mentioned that our tnbc seems to like fat.....where did you get that info? I'm curious because my integrative sources have been leaning toward the opposite of that. Many of the nutri-ceuticals that benefit us with tnbc need fat to be metabolized. I was thinking smart fat, not low fat. It is hard to absorb D3, curcumin, AKBA Boswellia, CoQ10 without fat in the diet.



    The WINS study was problematic according to some researchers because the benefits were not separated out by type of fat. They could not tell whether the benefits were from reducing inflammatory types of fats like trans-fats, polyunsaturated, or denatured fats. In other words, the participants reduced overall fat and weight, but it wasn't clear as to whether they were historically eating fats that were inflammatory and thus, cancer causing. I can't remember if they factored in BMI or not....



    Anyway, I'd love to hear your thoughts because Ms Olive Oil and and me have gotten used to each other!

    Bliss I wish I knew but because I really want the benefit of that study, I am doing what they did....low fat and I dropped weight.  I read an article by one of the study guys and he said do not substitute for better fat...so I'm not.  What you can do is be really careful in your type of fat intake...keep it to the right number of grams of fat per day but make it all count....just olive oil and other good oils as your source of fat...I think it is possible.  You have to do more work in managing your diet but I think it could be done.  The only thing is that cooking in olive oil may add up the grams of fat really quickly, but if you just measure to be sure you keep it to the right amount.  If you eat a lot of veggies and whole grains you have almost no fat...so you could just add the good fat.  Beans is my main protein source and that has really helped me do this.  I'm lazy and hate cooking so beans in a tortilla with lots of veggies saves me.

    I can't eat salt because of my lymphedema....which really, really sucks but it has kept me from eating fat indirectly... the good salty stuff is usually full of fat.  I like to think that God gave me lymphema to keep me away from the fat, to save my life.  Makes me feel a little better.

    Let us know if you can keep to the right amount of fat and eat olive oil.  Seems like it would be the best of both worlds.

    Has anyone heard anything about taking the diabetic drug Metformin to prevent triple negative? Also, anyone heard of a supplement called Immunopower? Hope everyone is well!

    LNBCA - I take 1000mg of metformin - I've heard a lot about it, there are two clinical trials that I'm aware of  -- one originated in Canada (but a lot of US oncologists are participating in that trial), and the other one (which includes diet and exercise is out in California (U Cal San Diego)

    I was accepted into the U Cal study, but I live on the east coast so it was too complicated for me to enter the study, I ended up sharing the facts with my family doc and he prescribed metformin (off label) the dose used in the clinical trials is 1,500mg daily -- and I'm working my way towards that (started on 500mg, now on 1000mg) -- I have absolutely no side effects from the metformin, it's a drug that's been around for ever and so I figured it can't hurt.

    Marinakaplan and LNBCA - Interesting you brought up the Metformin. I just talked to my family Dr last Monday and she agreed to prescribe it to me, only thing is I have to run it by my Onc first and as long as my Onc isn't vehemently opposed to it and has specific reasons to not agree to let me on it then the family Dr will let me have it. My Onc happens to be the one running the Metformin trial in my city so she has people on it already thru the trial. Fingers crossed.



    I love this thread too, I have been trying to get out for an hour long brisk walk most days even while still going thru chemo. Anything I can do to lower recurrance chances sign me up.

    Back to eating low fat....the holidays were rediculous.  It feels good to lean up and know that I am depriving any possible remaining cancer cells of their precious fat.  Now someone take this bottle of champaign away from me!!!!!

    humm on the fat comments....I love cheese, is that now a no no?  Maybe I need to speak to a nutritionist about TN diets..well diet isn't the word for it.  I really thought that sugar was the biggest no no?

    Marinekapia .. Are you taking the metformin while doing chemo or after it was over.? I am very interested and plan on asking my mo about it. I am presently doing chemo.

    jenjenl - here is a listing that I found regarding best foods for TNs, it also mentions Vitamin D which I think has been brought up in this thread before.  There is also a small list at the bottom of foods we should avoid.  Oh and I am with you on the cheese, LOVE it.  Have been avoiding bringing it into the house because I swear it calls my name.  The first thing I cut out was sugar because I have read lots on that being not good.
